Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about The Tarakeswar affair, also known as the Tarakeswar scandal or the Mahant-Elokeshi affair, a public scandal in 19th-century Bengal during the British Raj. Elokeshi, a 16 year girl was decapitated by her husband on suspicion of a love affair between Elokeshi and Mahant of Tarakeswar temple. The case resulted into a highly highly publicised trial known as Tarakeswar murder case of 1873.
