"Bengal Slices" First Impressions 

Got 8 tins aging, so happy. Love this stuff. Loaded

As a child I used to get a liquorice pipe in my Christmas stocking.... That may explain my pipe smoking today. An my fondness of liquorice allsorts..... You don't know what your missing...But I suppose it takes allsorts....... Keep up the good work.. Cheers

Bengal Slices is one of my favorite blends, though I've never had the original so I don't know how it compares. I can't stand black licorice either, but I haven't noticed it as a flavor when smoking Bengal Slices. I'm glad to see you're trying this one out, I've been wanting to see you review it for a long time. Hope you enjoy it.

I love this stuff.. You may also like Fusilier's Ration also made by RO but prior to getting the real recipe for Bengal Slices. Top note is not as heavy on licorice. Bengal Slices are better in my opinion but both are good

Bengal Slices was my favourite tobacco of 2016. I have two tins aging in my cellar. Great stuff!

Black licorice is the only true licorice. The red stuff is just....candy. I guess in this case for Brad, it is good the tin note doesn't match the smoke!

I was not lucky enough to try the original, this version was too sweet for me in my first impression, (I had a small sample), your description is much fuller flavor descriptions than what I can taste, as usual, but the sweetness overrides everything for me. I have a couple of tins in the cellar that I am going to give some age to see if it changes for the better. Thanks Bradley!!

My first impression of this was just ok. I also do not like licorice candy. However, the more I smoked it, the more I really enjoyed it. I am not sure that I taste "licorice" but whatever I do taste, I really enjoy. I do find the flavor can taste flat in some pipes but it works great in a slightly conical bowled pipe I have. So despite my first impression being a "miss", I have to say this is now one of my favorites. As a point of reference, I tend to enjoy English blends the most. Nice review and thank you!

I used to get a mouthful of tobacco after loading my pipe then I started to load and pack with a pipe cleaner in the pipe.

I’m proud to say that I actually helped test this blend before it was released.

thank you for deep insight, as for standard tobacco natural offerings I like the War Horse Ready Rubbed better cause it doesn't have latakia in it but Kentucky,only latakia I smoke is HH Vintage Syrian,nonetheless I notice War Horse RR having a faint licorice note in it,leaving alone the standard tobacco WH green one which is licorice /anisette bomb(cant stand licorice btw)Greets, Paul

Bengal slices reminded me of frog Morton's cellar without the whiskey note

I have a tin of this on the way as I'm looking for something to replace Penzance in my lineup. Now the anise flavor leads me to think this won't be the replacement, I'm intrigued nonetheless as I love liquorice and drink absinthe from time to time.

Bradley - stick with it. It’s been one of my favorites. Russ O. has another blend called Fire Storm which I love however after watching almost all of your shows I think your palette might not agree. Still, I wish you would give it a go on the channel. Thanks for your work.

So I put an order in with SmokingPipes. Waited and waited for an email Alert notifying me of Bengal Slices being in stock. Couldn't handle waiting and got tn extra tin of Lane 1-Q instead when I place my order. 36 hours later I get a notification that Bengal was in stock and my order already shipped :(. Next time I will have more patience!

Damn sure hate the black licorice, but I LOVE the red. I think you will find this one interesting, though unlikely to head to the top. Just go get some more tins of Elizabethan like I just did.

nope haven't tried it and must admit I probably wont. Latakia is my Kryptonite.

people have always had a bit of a sweet tooth. back when sugar wasn't readily avail. things that have natural sweetness were popular. licorice, anise, fennel are common flavors due to this. salty, sour additions are common to some cultures as well. i am one who actually likes licorice, horehound, and vanilla, just not in my tobacco. i once bought some licorice that was hard little pellets in a tin. they come from somewhere in the scandi region, and were salty, which i wasn't keen on, but no sugar. diff tastes.

Fusilier's ration is apparently same as Bengal slices but without the added flavoring. Not 100% sure since I have not had it myself.

Love black liquorice, but even better, I love knowing that pea gravel has a 100 % compaction rate. Obviously I have a project in the works.

So what makes a blender decide to go with a crumble cake? Not really a fan of crumble cakes, but do love me some Plum Pudding.
