Today we're making steamed prawns in a mustard sauce from the state of West Bengal. This is Shorshe Chingri Bhapa and we're making these in the microwave. If you have a steamer you can definitely use that to cook the dish instead. Hope you enjoy!
Ingredients
Black mustard 1 tbsp
Yellow mustard 1 tbsp
Poppy seeds 1 tbsp
Chilles 2 no
Coconut 30g
Sugar 2 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Mustard oil 2 tbsp
Yogurt ¼ cup/ 55g
Turmeric ½ tsp
Water 2 tbsp

Oh just forgot to add that if u grind yr mustard in a blender then an hour or so resting time is preffered to bring out its flavour. If you grind it in a “sheel-nora” you can use it immediately.

Not a fan of mustard, so I will make this with our it or reduce the amount a lot! Not the same but I love prawns!

Does not have to be this recipe, since this recipe itself is not 100% authentic. If u don’t like mustard put less. Skip the mustard oil, use something else, or mix mustard oil with another oil. It’s all good.

Also put more yoghurt which mellows out the taste. If u are steaming it in a closed container it will make it watery. But if you are cooking in the microwave or stove, then that will not be a problem.

Will work with just the dark ones as well if you can't get the yellow ones.

Good, there are so many versions of this dish. Traditionally it is made just with mustard and green chilli paste and lots and lots of mustard oil, and put in the rice after it has been cooked to steam it. This is only be eaten in very small portions with lots and lots of rice. It is just too pungent. All the other variations must be good, though I have never made or eaten them. I stick with the traditional one I ate growing up. Maybe I will try out yr variation. Mustard oil is an acquired taste. If you decide to do a veg version of this vlog do make aloo posto.

I hv shrimp...prepared spicy mustard ...greek yogurt...olive oil... no coconut...will marinade & saute...make a curry of it...will that work??
