I am 62 having lived in Benicia 52 years of my life. The reason I am here is because it was and still is a safe place to raise my children. I can walk around town or ride my bicycle any day or night of the week without having to look over my shoulder. We can call the Bay Area refineries a conn to living here though keep in mind these cities would not be the thriving places to live without the millions of dollars of revenue they have provided in the last century of Benicia's existence. Our streets, parks, infrastructure, protective services, police, fire, and schools would not be anywhere close what they are today without the income from the refinery. The small shops on Main street are wonderful though there is no way their tax base would provide for what Benicia residents currently enjoy. Added to that is the incomes it provides to employees / residents who spend that money in towns like Benicia.
Loved your videos on Vallejo & Benicia. As well as it's Pro's & Con's. It's fair that your presentation is straight to the point. I just sold my home in Vallejo after 16 years. I would had called Benicia home if @ the time I could afford it. Choose Vallejo next door instead then again don't regret my move to V-Town. Invested in 2 other properties there as well since December of '93 & been through both bankruptcy as well as of course, the Shipyard's closure. Then too despite all of that I read some of those other negative comments in your Vallejo video. I think for the most part you did hit the complaints on the head!
Thank you so much for the kind words and for taking the time to watch! It sounds like overall, Vallejo has been a wonderful home to you, as it has been to me as well! I appreciate your support, thank you!
