Brits got what they voted for and the French are never going to allow us to get the same freedoms as the others. The only reason we are out is because of people like my 83 year old mom and 80 year old father in law who voted Brexit and never go abroad, never eat foreign foods and thought it would stop migrants.......all very wrong
hi Ana, do you know if Spain has actually asked Brussels to scrap the 90 day for Brits? or is this something that Spain is wanting to do? any update or links to were I could find any info on this would be ver much appreciated thank you :)
But it's a vicious circle. You don't like the restrictions imposed by the EU on EU countries so you leave the EU and get even more restrictions. And outside you no longer have any influence. Spain is campaigning as an insider for a change whereas we can no longer do that. Although in this case if we were still in the EU we wouldn't even have to. And please do not ignore the fact that these actual restrictions were very much supported by the UK whilst we were part of the EU. We were very much in favour of anything putting limits on outsiders staying. Spain's applications to allow people to stay longer is the very type of thing the UK would have vetoed! But we are the outsiders now so these restrictions apply to us. It's like the EU shell fish laws saying the catch has to be delivered in 24 hours. That was tabled and campaigned for by the UK because it favoured us against outsiders. Now we ARE the outsiders so the rules we wanted now work against us and we're complaining about it. And again when we were part of the EU people often talked about it as though it was an outside body over which we had no control. We were part of it. We had MEPs and as one of the big three (Germany, UK, France) we had a lot of influence. Saying the EU imposed laws on the EU is true but in the same way as the UK imposes laws on the UK.
would be great if we could do all 180 days together but TBH I don't think it's likely to happen anytime soon. We are here, Torrevieja atm, but must leave for the UK, on 29 January latest. Probably fly out to Cyprus for the rest of the winter
No problems, but Spain would have to install border check points with Portugal and France. No check points would mean British would migrate back and forth in EU without visas.
We already do mate ! I'm a brexit voting expat leaving in poland with permanent residency meaning I can stay in poland with no time limits. Nothing to stop me taking a train or flight to France or Madrid.... no passport checks all the way from warsaw to ibiza. Done it frequently
@@chrisyarnold6205 hardly selfish, he didn't make the rules, he merely exercised his right to vote for the UK to leave the union. He can't be blamed or accused of being selfish for following the rules put in place by the Eu.
After 300 years there are still some Spaniards who live believing that the sun does not set in the Spanish Empire, some French, after 200 years, still believe they live in the time of Napoleon. We have to be patient with the British, it is painful to stop being an Empire. They may continue to believe that because they are British Brussels is going to make an exception, but the reality is that now there is only one formula to legally reside in Spain or in the other 26 countries, and it is very simple, obtain residence and pay taxes
It is the Spanish pushing for this because they want longer term British money.... Britain is still the 2nd richest in Europe and they want our money. It is a shame that Madrid has to go asking the Belgians for permission
Ana, wouldn't an exception for Spain also open the floodgates for all kinds of other countries showing data to support exceptions for travel and visa of non-EU members.
Love the place but made it difficult for brits! Big mistake! Make it easier stop eu dictating to Spain and we are back.inour droves!! Spain became our first mass getaway we have a loyalty to Spain but them to us to so lift the stupid rules!
Hi there, only just discovered that EU citizens are allowed to visit the UK for up to 6 months. But this right is not reciprocated for UK citizens who are only allowed 3 months. Seems unfair
The fact that Spain cannot make rules and laws for its own nation is the perfect example of why the UK left the EU. It should be up to the Spanish people and the Spanish Government what they do in their own country.
@@stephenowens5375 I don't need to get over it Kevin. It's gammons who live in Spain that suffer, with their love of fried food, nasty tattoos and big beer bellies. Fingers crossed they get deluged with Spanish paperwork.
They could issue a visa similar to France? We own a holiday home in France as well as Spain and have a 6 month visa for France. The 6 months in France does not affect Schengen time at all. We can go on holiday from UK without worrying about overstaying.
Give every single English lad a kind of expat card (!) Anyone asking for it and would fill up a quick registry form in a tourist office should be accepted and welcomed. (!)
It has nothing to do with Spain making their own rules Spain needs the EU subsidies that it enjoys, for improved infrastructure. The 90 days is just one example of the results of the UK coming out of European Union, can not see it as a benefit, in fact there is no benefit from Brexit if you have one benefit share it, whether it is trade. Borders, free movement of capital, goods and labour, simple there is no benefits not even the lies printed on the brexiteers bus side claiming the monies we would receive after leaving the EU to fund the NHS etc etc you get what you reap, the taxation system will have to be enforced to catch those who fly under the radar at the expense of those that pay all their taxes.
No this is not the answer. Many people have bought homes or are buying homes in Spain who will never have the passive income levels required to obtain a non lucrative visa! I am one of them. I have bought a home understanding Schengen 90/180 rule applies but would be great if this changed. It is strange owning and investing in the local economy but can't use my own property ad I would like to.
Maybe do a year visa like France offers or a lower passive income requirement like Portugal passive income D7 visa. Spain’s non lucrative visa requires a lot of money.
Will Spain change the 90 day rule for Brits? Spain currently does not have any plans of changing the 90-day rule. Technically, this rule is not under Spanish jurisdiction, as it is a rule that applies to the whole Schengen Area. So even if Spain wanted to change this rule, the change can only be initiated by authorities of the European Union.28 Aug 2023
Britons, voted 🗳 for a deal that they, themselves don't even knows what is written in the contract, Brexit Brexit ok, but they only listen to boris the ripper meetings and voted to leave Ok, UK is a sovereign country, its peoples take decisions by themselves, good. The point that I want to stree out is. When you are in a select club, afterwards you decided to leave, Later you starts to think about the membership and all its applications that you had lost??? Imagine yourself, UK is the worst country in the world, worst than certain countries where, coups are routine. 5 primes ministers in 10 years, UK has detain a world record about prime ministership, 45 days . This is the only thing that we must retain in this whole story. Anyway , thanks for the video.
The annoying thing about Britain leaving the EU doesn't stop us from being European, we are still part of Europe and should still be free to travel Visa free, for as long as we want... Brussels has far to much power! Who put them in charge!!
What? 2016 the UK voted against free movement of people and now you want free movement of people? Oh, wait. You only want free movement of Brits, dont you?
In 2023 British people will need the ETIAS visa to visit Spain. It is quite difficult to get an ETIAS visa if you have a criminal record even for crimes committed in Britain. Spanish authorities will also be able to ban people travelling who commit public order offences while drunk. I think it will be good when ETIAS comes into force. Benidorm will become a safer less rowdy place. Also It will be much easier to stop Brits exceeding their stay when the ETIAS visas are required for Brits to enter Spain. It’s a good system for everyone.
It will never happen, I moved to Malaga 2 years ago and gained residency under the withdrawal agreement , here we are December 2022 and still no agreement on driving licence exchange post brexit, the new ETIAS system comes into force also next year November I believe.
@@psy-op they need the English? Not true even here in Malaga I see less and less in fact if you search online there is anti tourist sentiment , places like the balearic islands are aiming at a higher spending tourist such as the Germans , Scandinavians etc, its a total fallacy that Spain need the UK market
@antonio crawley OK, Then why does the Spanish government want to change the rule for the English. And where does anti tourist sentiment come from?? Not from the hotels and bars etc
@@psy-op You are I think correct about Spanish government maybe wanting to relax the rules but the 90 day rule is a schengen rule and the UK is a 3rd country status and joins the rest of the world in its less privileged status, the schengen is the EU structure, from november a visa will be required for and the ETIAS scheme will be in place , the anti sentiment referred to the locals of some of the big cities in reality I think it relates to AIRBNB and price of property in general but this can and does happen in every country
It is going to happen. The economic impact of the 90 day rule for U.K. nationals in Spain has been greater than expected. Spain is pushing for exemption. Brussels has already advised an exception to be granted. So expect the Change to be implemented soon. People whom have been planning to relocate from the U.K. to Eire for 5 years in order to spend retirement in Spain are already being advised by lawyers that it is no longer necessary as the 90 day rule will have changed before that period.
Hi Ana.. you look great today.. I love your cardigan.. I would wear that 😆 you have style.. On politics.. this is why we left the European Union.. Spain shouldn't be governed in Brussels.. all tourism is very very important to Spain. You're so cute.. ❤ See you in June.. byyyyeeee 😁 x
@@mariaaguadoball3407 if you read my comment again I said "ALL tourism is important to Spain" Not just Brits! Also I said it was important, which it is, I didn't say it was essential!
@@mariaaguadoball3407 I understand your frustration. I'm frustrated in the amount of people who see our islands as the last resort and a free ride and the evil people who exploit the desperate who often lose their lives in looking for refuge. We have enough issues with homelessness for the people who were born here and have contributed to their countries.. and don't get me started on our joke of a government.. All countries have their problems.. Unfortunately you vented your angst on the wrong person. When I'm in Spain I try my best to speak Spanish, always learning, I'm very friendly and respectful and I am ashamed sometimes of the attitude of 'some' of the British tourists... You definitely got the wrong man. Ask Ana 😊
Why can’t I stay for longer than 90 days my wife is Spanish we live in the Uk but I don’t want to have Spanish residency but want to stay longer than 3 months it seems quite rediculus a married couple of 40 years cannot stay together because of this stupid rule any ideas when this will change
Thank you for the video. It is now February and you keep referring to next year, do you mean 2023. Please may I ask , where did you get your information from . I am a member of several groups who want to spend winters in Spain and summer months in UK but are not aware that Spain are on our side???
Check the date for this video 😊👍 it was in 2022, this year around autumn-winter time etias should be put in place, theyve been postponing it several times, so who knows 🤦🏻♀️🤷♀️
A lot of people who can work from a laptop for instance prefer to spend their Winters somewhere warmer. It makes sense economically for Spain to be one of those destinations.
If anything the rules will get tougher when the ETIAS visa is launched in 2023. Being an electronic visa it will be impossible for people to exceed their stay without a penalty. At present border guards have to scrutinise stamps. With ETIAS any over-stay will flag up there and then and the good thing is no more stamps filling up your passport. Also I doubt the EU will allow Spain to relax the 90 day rules.
These 90 day restrictions are the very thing that the UK vehemently supported when we were in the EU. Now they apply to us we don't like them any more. And if we were still in the EU and Spain was asking to extend the 90 day rule for a different nationality the UK would be opposing it. Maybe another thing you didn't completely think through Reform UK.
Sorry? Can I get this right? Is this somebody sporting a 'Reform UK' avatar, a political party built on promoting not just Brexit but a hard Brexit, saying that the EU should be MORE lax about allowing foreigners come to the EU and stay longer? Do you have no sense of irony?
My wife is Spanish so in theory under EU "right to family life" rules I am allowed to accompany my wife beyond any normal 90/180 days in Spain or the EU. I am wondering if the ETIAS system will recognise this particular scenario when it's introduced. We are resident in the UK and I am British whilst my wife is Spanish with settled status. We have a Spanish Libro De Familia.
At the moment, the one that is sinking is the United Kingdom, with its strikes, its queues for fuel, its fall in the pound, its Truss, its Johnson, its Sunak, its Scotland that is going to leave...
@@luisatrvus781 Queues for fuel? Falling pound? Scotland going to leave, how? Comments detached from reality, you need to catch up a little. Oh by the way, one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe.
Only the northeast corner of Benidorm is reliant on a few British tourists, and if Spain left the EU it would be a bigger disaster for them than we currently see unfolding in the U.K.
Quite a few British have been leaving our area in the last year and being replaced by Americans and Scandinavians. Probably more to do with the falling pound euro exchange rate.
1.15 eu to 1 gbp at the moment with the euro predicted to continue to fall. Admittedly sterling fell in late Sept but had regained well since and the experts predict 1.17 in 2023. Also since the Truss fiasco lira is strong again against USD so what you have said doesn't really follow.
The 90 day rule change if it comes is a little late for us as we unsold our Casa in Sucina 😊 Spain will never convince Brussels to let them make exemptions for brits lol 😆 That’s why the UK left the federal state 🤣
Spain doesn't need more brexitards. You lost your freedom of movement in the EU. You are now a so-called sovereign nation, according to Farage and his acolytes, ruled by unelected burocrats like Mr Frost and Prime Ministers like Truss and Sunak. Welcome to the real world of Brexit which was imposed upon the Scots, as they did vote to remain in the EU. I am sorry for remainers who didn't vote for this mess.... I will say it again... Unelected burocrats like Lord Frost, two PMs and counting, food banks queues, fuel poverty, numerous strikes and industrial actions , and a economy that doesn't take off because there is a lack of workers and over 1 million unfilled vacancies in spite of a record number of illegal immigrants living in hotels paid by the tax payer. 🤔 Stevie wonders why they don't need the 90 day's rule.!?
Ha ha ha, you should read and learn more about EU. Many EU countries including Spain they do decide for themselfs, make role's for themself and sure there are common rules that all members agree and accept. Spain could have use the vito vote but they did not. Can Scotland or Welsh or N.Ireland take major decision by them self without England ? no sooooo there you go same same
External borders are important to Brits. It’s on TV every day. Some Brits actually voted for Brexit to control their external borders. Unfortunately that put the UK on the wrong side of the EU external border… the solution is simple.
Tenerife speak American Spanish. Tenerife also last port of call for Colombus, Nelson also lost his arm there. After slaving all year people sometimes like to have fun. And great for Spains economy. Do you have any more crap to moan about?
Spain is not highly dependent on British tourists. The British are already being replaced by Italians, Germans etc. Freedom of movement is a two way street. No way Europe gives that away for a few Brits in Benidorm
@@jasbindersingh2441 They are certainly not eating cake when you lot at the state of their economy. Well done you for choosing to live in the EU. Brexiters voted to destroy their own country.
Steve you do realise that EU visitors can stay 6 months in one go in the UK? It would be a reciprocal 6 months for UK visitors to Spain! Instead of 90 in 180 it would mean you could stay for the 6 months all at once.
Spain should have treated the Brits who bought property there more fairly. I finally divested myself of a Spanish property in 2022 after years of battling the local council in Busot. They made life for me very difficult and expensive. Then there were the house agents, architects lawyers and others who took advantage of me and cheated me at every turn. I’m glad Spain is feeling the pinch. My advice to anyone thinking of buying a home there is don’t! It doesn’t matter how much investigation and checking you do you will be scammed and You will regret it I
HI ANA THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE LATEST NEWS UPDATE FOR SPAIN & FOR THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF BENIDORM I HOPE THE 90 DAYS RULE BRITISH TOURISTS COMES TO AN END SOON 🤞 & I REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT VIDEO VERY SOON SEE YOU IN YOUR NEXT VIDEO ANA IN THE BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF BENIDORM ♥️☀️🏝👍🏼.
For all the nostalgic Brexiteers of the British Empire. Maybe in Torrevieja or Benidorm the British are important, but the Spanish economy is more than tourism. Tourism is 12%, the rest is services, industry, agriculture, etc. Inflation in Spain It is at 6%, and in the British Empire at 11% and rising, not to mention its stinking NHS. Stop giving lessons, they have left the EU and they will not return, worry about Scotland or Northern Ireland, it's been a while since they impress no one.
@@denistierney4642 did you read my post? Never mentioned Scotland or even inferred they voted to leave. Merely pointed out that Wales also voted to leave along with England.
