The founders of the studio entrusted us with designing the premises for their new bespoke personal training facility. Inspired by the unique concept of offering tailored personal classes in strength and conditioning, Pilates, and yoga, we embarked on a journey to reimagine the conventional fitness environment.
We began by questioning the prevalent trend of dark, jarring interiors in most fitness facilities, aiming to create a space that better reflected the studio owners' vision and the expectations of their discerning clientele in the posh Gurgaon area. Moving away from the commonly used colours and materials in fitness studios, we focused on an experimental design that redefined the spatial experience.
Guided by the site and the zoning principles of Vaastu, we crafted broad zones that both overlap and separate the different workout areas for strength training, #Pilates, and yoga, along with a small office space. This approach kept the majority of the floor area open, allowing for creativity and flexibility in its use. The studio was designed to be a sanctuary from daily routines, placing a strong emphasis on both body and mind wellness.
The micro-concrete clad walls, in a calming mud colour, instantly imparted a sense of luxury and tranquility to the space. Free-standing arches helped delineate the zones between strength training and Pilates, perfectly framing the space. Inspired by Louis Kahn, we ensured that the architectural elements did not touch each other, maintaining a sense of openness and fluidity.
The concept was brought to life with two hand-painted murals by local artist Bhawna Singh. These murals, representing manifestation and belief in the yoga area, and using a cylindrical column to depict balance with koi fish forming the Yin-Yang symbol, added a profound artistic touch to the studio.
Additionally, we incorporated an outdoor seating area, seamlessly connected to a colourful and bright pantry, creating a vibrant gathering space for users. This thoughtful design not only enhances the physical #workout experience but also fosters a sense of community and well-being.
