A look at Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, which had its premiere in 1962. It was commissioned to mark the consecration of Coventry Cathedral. 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of Benjamin Britten's birth.
Thanks for uploading this. Britten's War Requiem is one of my favourite classical music compositions, and this documentary contained fascinating information.
A awsome réquiem. I always cry when l listen to it. My parents never have known their fathers, both dead, Terrible War. I never knew my grand father's.
@ILiveOnMyBoat. Britten returned to England because he had love of (his) country, as opposed to American-like patriotism. He didn't take to the "American way of life", was homesick and decided to have his ongoing first opera PETER GRIMES performed in England. He refused to enlist in the armed services and received virulent criticism for it, it being hinted that his pacificism was sheer treachery to his country in a time of need. All of this is explained in both dvds available now.
I’m looking for something I heard on random radio station last night. I think it was call the Bachelor by Benjamin. Does anybody know where I can find this
