I live din the officer housing from 1988-1990. God, I miss Mannheim. Anthony's Pizza, Sight and Sound, Stars and Stripes, the video store, going to summer camp at the youth center. Great memories!
Michael Strahan lived at BFV in the mid 80's. He also played for the Mannheim Bison football team. His ex-wife Wanda Hutchins is from Mannheim as well.
I lived in the Guest House for Operation Joint Endeavor from Dec 1995 to the end of July 1996. Sad to see it go. But happy to see that the people of Germany can use the land to build homes, businesses, schools and the such.
My family lived there from 69-71 and it's so sad it's all gone. So many memories for so many families for so many years. It is quiet the life to be a military brat.
Stationed here for 4 years... Made some great friends I keep in contact with to this day. I loved BFV. Used to ride the Strauss to Heidelberg or down to Mannheim and would go to the Hauptbahnhof to travel to places all over Europe. All in all I wish I could have settled down here. It was just an amazing place to open up the heart and mind of a young man far from home. It is missed so much, except for some horrible stuff that happened to me there.
I was at Coleman Bks from 1972 to 1975 and would take the bus to the main PX outside of Sullivan Bks. pass in front of Funari Bks beside BFV down to the front gate of Sullivan then getting off the bus walking across the railroad tracks and about a block down to the PX on the left. I also had several classes in the Sports Complex at BFV
They have now taked down of couple months ago all buildings of the BFV. Only the sports arena and the church is left there. Few buildings south goes down in couple years, because its used as a refugees camp. I have tears when i think that Americans are all gone now, i learned a lot in making friendship. And on this time u yall were here i felt u guys beloging in our place and our community.
💫 I was at BFV 1980-1982 Remembering Staying At The Guest Housing Then Permanent Residence At BFV, Attended The Middle School, The DYA Was A Cheerleader The 76ers A/B ~* Priceless Memories I Love ❤️🤍💙 And Miss So Much About Living In Mannheim West Germany 🇩🇪 When The Wall Was Up 🎙️
Look up Niemandsland...no man's land in English This is a documentary on BFV that begins in 2011right after it was abandoned and still complete. It is in German with English subtitles. You will not believe the irony of the ending.
