Deserves Rugby League Immortality... everyone playing footy wanted to be like him. The flick pass the step. I was a big kid growing up, but I would always sneak in a step and a flick pass whenever I played and I would be my own commentator by saying Benjis name when I did it. My friends did so as well. First topic on Monday morning when we met in school was, " Hey did you see Marshall's game in the weekend" He was a childhood hero... The influence he had to kids watching NRL was unmatched. I know someday I'll show my kids clips of Benji and tell them all the stories of his games. Happy Retirement Benji👏. We will miss you. ❤
Make him an immortal. He won a premiership, he won a world cup, but more importantly he brought so much excitement to the game that has had a lasting impact and influenced a whole generation.
Not the absolute best player ever, but right up there with the greats, and by far the most inspiring and entertaining player of the NRL era. An entire generation of footballers owe their love of the game to Marshall
So a career like no other comes to an end. The genius has left his mark on the great game like no other. Benji inspired millions of kids to not only play Rugby League, but to fall in love with at the same time. We all wanted to be like Benji in whatever thing we were doing, mostly when we had the footy in our hands. Those sharp steps, 50 meter field goals, guiding New Zealand to their first World Cup, an epic Four Nations win in 2010 and many more. Who could ever forget that flick pass in the 05' Grand Final. That will forever be imprinted as an iconic image in both Australian and New Zealand sport. Those 20-30 point comebacks on a Sunday afternoon. Fought through injuries off the field to get back to doing what he does best - inspiring and entertaining a generation. You will always be in our hearts Benji ❤❤❤. Marshall Skips away, Marshall skips away.....to Rugby League Immortality.
What a player. There are loads of candidates for greatest player of this generation, but I can’t think of a player as successful AND as entertaining as Benji Marshall in my 33 years watching RL.
If you compare his accolades with players like JT, Cameron Smith, Cronk, or Lockyer it really ain't that impressive. But if you wanna compare the amount of influence he had on revolutionizing the style of the game and motivating a whole generation of players and fans alike, it's honestly greater than any of those players mentioned above put together. On that ground alone I do believe he deserves to be made an immortal. Plus he's the nicest guy to ever play the game and we will miss him dearly 😪❤❤❤
Cronk Smith and Lockyer had the pleasure of playing in a stacked team full of superstars for pretty much their entire career. Benji was often carrying the Tigers by himself it's totally different. You put him in the Melbourne team next to cronk and he wins mutiple premierships.
Should be an immortal for sure. It shouldn’t matter if he wasn’t the absolute best player of all time, his influence on the game and the fans of that generation has got to count for something. No disrespect intended, but I can’t imagine kids would run around the school yard screaming out darren lockyers name while playing footy with their mates at lunch time. Everyone wanted to be like Benji. He deserves immortality for inspiring a generation of kids like never before.
One of, if not the nicest man in rugby league, had the pleasure of meeting Sir Benji multiple times and he was always polite, respectful and always down to take a photo and have a chat with the young kids that looked up to him, thank you benji you absolute legend, will miss you ❤️
Absolutely true and Genuine super star. He will be deeply missed but forever not for forgotten. Wish you every success into your new life after professional rugby league
The human highlight real! Took the biggest s*** show of a club to their only premiership. Took NZ to their first World Cup win and their first 4 nations win. Immortal.
Have a good retirement Benji Marshall thank you for the good memories with the NRL and the Kiwis. 1 NRL title and 1 Rugby league world cup what a player 💪😁 Mean Maori Mean
Started watching NRL because of Benji Marshall. no words can describe this man. Absolutely phenomenal! yet to find someone as incredible as he was! thanks for entertaining us for years Benji! Rugby league Icon
Made me think Benji should’ve been the one to take that shot at the end of the game of the grand final haha. But will say I think Chris Sandow’s one from half way to win the game was equally as impressive.
Benji Marshall reminds me of Derrick Rose in the NBA, in his prime just an absolute menace on the rugby field. If grew up in the early 2000’s everyone wanted to step and flick like benji
He isn’t the greatest player, but undoubtedly one of the greats. Where he does reign supreme is I don’t think there is a player that has inspired as many kids to play the game as benji has. Growing up in primary school from 2005-11 he was literally the biggest thing ever. Everyone was doing the benji sidestep and flickpass, he got kids that played soccer and AFL to play rugby league. The only person that was on his level of flare and superstardom at the time was jarryd hayne, with Greg inglis not far behind. I’ll definitely miss him, he was a big part of my childhood
Was never a fan of him personally but none the less you have to admit he was a good player and played some great footy 👌 all the best in retirement mate
80k was all he wanted to play his last year with the tigers.felt for him .apparentley his defence wasnt good enough.....no one on the tigers team was good enough this year.
Em save play style stret taim em youngpla man yet. Ori. Thank you long ol memories, Benji. Peace na respect long yu (Played the game with style and flair when he was a young fella. Admirable. Thank you for the memories, Benji. Peace and respect to you)
These highlights are terrible. The lead up to all his tries are what should be shown because that’s what his greatness is defined by. The side stepping and crazy no look/flick passes are what all us kids growing up who watched him emulated. Anyone can score a try, but not many can score or set them up like he could. An absolute magician and genius of the game. The greatest 6 in NZ history nuff said.

I hope tim sheens brings him in to mentor brookes/ in a coaching role. Tigers did him dirty last year when he was playing nuts footy- and they ended up doing worse in 2021. Benji is a born mentor. Get him in
