i've recently become aware of benny's music. this song especially stood out to me. it is an incredibly beautiful and powerful song. a song that should absolutely be heard. it is a song that should be mainstream. that being said, and i don't want to offend anyone because there is no right way or wrong way to produce a song, i feel that this song,a song that has so much potential, lacks in its production. anyone can record a loop and rap over it. what makes a song stand out from the rest? a powerful, melodic chorus, and hooks. the chorus is absolutely genius in this song. it is one that can easily be ingrained into peoples memory. that's how you catch the public into listening to the verses. why would you put it at only the beginning and end of the song. it makes no sense. songs aren't arranged in that way. if you are looking for something artistic and underground, by all means that's fine. but if you want the masses to hear it, the arrangement is lacking. (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge etc. )the greatest american hero sample is great, as long as you got permission. it is way overused. you gave up all your shit at the beginning of this song and had nothing up your sleeve to offer after that. you are talking about surviving in the past and how good the present is. break it on down during the verses with grit and energy and a live feel, and make the chorus a more powerful and polished feel, and put it in the right places. all i hear are is the same sequence over and over. i'm assuming you have unlimited tracks. layer, shelve instruments. build ups and breakdowns. use chord changes. sequences will get you only so far. make things subtle. the drums for example. change drum machine samples during the song. its subtle but powerful. just a snare change does wonders. i think this song is amazing. you've got something special. i am from buffalo and it would be great to see your success grow.
