Alot of people do sugar in the grits tho I use to do the sugar in the grits to til I moved down south and taste it without the sugar and I rocked with it that way too but I can't make my daughter none without the sugar she will refuse to eat them
I put sugar on my grits when I was locked up and it changed my life!! I like s&p on them but only if the grits are a side with dinner.
