I wish these companies would come out with true 'budget' projectors. No speaker, one HDMI (buy and add a switcher if you need to), maybe a USB, etc... get rid of a lot of the miscellaneous stuff next to no one uses and keep the costs down for the consumer. Who really uses VGA with a 4k projector? One single dollar saved in manufacturing can mean up to eight saved on the retail end depending on the distribution channels it goes through. If someone ever just gives us a no-frills projector that focuses only on the image? They'll dominate the market based on price point alone.
Shine Onn ENT. Last year the most expensive one aimed at the joe-plumber consumer was the Sony one at $8,500. Based on that comparison? I agree 100% with you that the 1400$ price tag is good. But I ask you this: Would you rather pay $1400 for a projector that has capabilities (??) You don't need? Or $900 for one that ONLY has the things you'll use? Think about the things they do that you don't use. VGA? The end cost for us is at least 10 bucks after it passes down the supply chain and everyone tacks on their profit margin along the way. A cheaper projector robs sales from it's competitors, forcing them to lower their prices... or have their throats cut. Competition is great for the consumer's wallet.
Max Pawa exactly. Their just looking for ways to keep the prices inflated. No one is buying a 4k projector to hook up VGA signal to it. Imagine what 1080p projectors COULD cost, compared to what they DO cost.
No matter how many small things they cut out, the projector would not be affordable to you - the real cost savings are when the technology licenser (in this case Texas Instruments) starts lowering the cost for 4K DMDs. It has been happening but it takes a while.
Quality content as always! Do you have any insight into where 4K HDR Projectors may be in a year or two? I'm hoping the market gets a bit more saturated, bringing the price of bad boys like this down.
How would you rate this budget 4K offering from Benq against getting one of their popular 1080P projectors like the HT2050A ? Roughly double the price but with multiple compromises ..... isn't it really worth the extra money or are we still better off sticking with proven 1080 projectors for the moment ?
I think this would be great for a master bedroom perhaps. That contrast ratio is pretty damn bad though for a main family or rec room. Hdr I imagine would be null and void.
CoCo & Tez The Wilder Family the Optoma is sharper because has better lens plus a better hdr. On this test they compare budget 4k ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bo9CM2WwSqI.html
I currently have a 70" 4k uhd tv. I want a projector. I watch mostly blu-rays in cinema mode. My living room is not real bright or real dark. Kinda in the middle. Which projector do you recommend ? Im not a huge fan of hdr or super bright picture. My main concern is crisp texture and natural color.
Bro plz help me out . Which is better.. benq th585 or benq tk800m.. also any other 4k uhd active 3d projector u wud suggest in same price range of tk800m
hey there pal. Does BenQ TK800 4K prjector do upscaling like the 4K TV does? Aslo is it suitable for a dark setup room? Ignore my ignorance. Thanks in advance.
Throw ratio is 1.47-1.76 so minimum would be 12.8ft to get your 120" screen. The HT3550 has a much shorter throw ratio that would get you 120" at 10.5ft.
@@AkhilRaj A 135" screen is roughly 9.8ft wide and therefore you would need to place the projector a minimum of 14.4ft from your screen. Measure the distance between the center of the mount and the lens of the projector to get the spot where you need to install the mount.
Ever use the 3D there are no reviews about it? You seem to really know your stuff I would love your input I wasn't super happy with my 1080p led 3d TV it does a ok job but it isn't that wow factor you get at the theater I would hope this would fill that gap?
Hey man awesome review. Quick question, I actually changed the auto keystone to the manual option. It saids to hold the mode button to change it back to auto keystone but I don’t see a mode button. The only buttons with mode on it is light mode, pic mode, and sound mode and none of these change it back. Take care man
Majestechs lol thanks for replying, like an idiot I just realized that the mode button is on the actual projector and not on the remote lol. Thanks for replying. I actually had to send my TK800 to BenQ for an exchange for a new one. For some reason it keep changing to black and white then shutting off. I just got a new one and it gives off a weird burning smell and makes a weird clanging sound about every 15 minutes for like 5 minutes. So I might have to send this one back also 🤦♂️. Thanks for replying tho. I appreciate it. Take care man.
Nice video. I gotta get my hands on 1,i love my 1080p projector, but I'm tired of the work around with splitters, etc, just to watch/ stream uhd/ atmos into my onkyo atmos capable receiver. Hey Chris tell benq send me 1 to review or you give away to me. Thanks..I gotta post my set up.
I know the further you move the projector away from the wall the bigger the image gets but it also loose brightness in the process. so my question is how far should I place this project from the wall to get the best picture out of it and how big the image will be ? 122 inch or more ?
I really wish they would have just ditched the speaker on this. Just leave an audio out. Even if you were using this in a remote or outdoor setting instead of a home theater, you would still use some other speaker than a dumb little speak in the projector. It is a waste of weight, cost, space that could have been used for peltier cooling, and just dumb.
Pros: Bright detailed picture. Great for daytime viewing. Nice compact size (compaired to my Epson 4000 4K projector). Easy to use menus. Cons: Cooling fan is louder than most projectors. Colors not as brilliant as LCD projectors. Projects a “halo” around screen. I tried everything to lessen the effect of this light projecting outside the screen area. Read all suggestion in many forums and nothing helped. I even exchanged the projector and had the same problem. It’s not to noticeable during the day but at night and the movie scene is dark there’s this white light around your screen on the walls ceiling. I had the BenQ W1070 prior to this projector (also some Epson’s) and never had this problem. I returned this projector because most of my viewing is at night and that “halo” was to distracting. This is unacceptable for the price you pay for this projector.
Chris, thanks for sharing. If I recall you're running the UHD60 as your primary projector yes? Do you have any opinions on these 2 benQ against the upcoming UHD51? After seeing TVS Pro comparision between the UHD50 and the 2550, it seems that the Optoma has a significantly better 4K picture to offer. I am still hanging onto my 3D, so my only choices that I'm aware of are the BenQ and the UHD51 without stepping up to Sony money. I understand that benQ has apparently corrected the 3D issues on the 2550, but I haven't seemed to find many reviews that confirm this. Any thoughts?
Hi, nice video. Question I have chance to get a refurbished tk800 from benq directly for 400 dollars. Should I? Is it still a good projector for 2024? Thanks
Typical Marketing lies.... Again! “True” 4K.... but it’s pixel shift “Support” HDR. But even can’t project REC 709 color space :))) Same story again like in the age of : Full HD vs HD ready , OLED vs LEDTV, local dimming vs local edge dimming, and so on... When the stupid marketing idiots will understand this is not the right way to sell something? After this lies, this projector is a garbage in My eyes, and no way to purchase even for 200 USD.
How much is the screen? What projector did you use before? Great review of the projector, but don't forget that without reference it doesn't mean much. When you say "great" - and you are normally using a 50K projector or 1K projector... makes a big difference for what "great" means to you. Other than that - great!
This projector gets the job done pretty well. ru-vid.comUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
Optoma is releasing the UHD51 that supports full 3D if you weren't aware of that yet. I don't think it's on the market yet, but should be coming out any week now from my understanding
Hello Chris,I have been trying to decide on DLP or 3 LCD and now, I'm leaning towards laser. What are your thoughts and opinions on the laser 4k Projectors. I'm considering the Optoma UHZ65 and my projector will not be in a dedicated theater room. it will be in a great room. I'm choosing the Elite Screens Starling Tab-Tension 2 CineGrey 5D Series 120" Projector Screen to minimize or eliminate washout from anbient light. Have you had the opportunity to review the laser projectors? and I was told that the laser has a longer bulb life as well.
Thanks for a great review once again!! Wish you would have covered lamp life in different modes and warranty like you have on other reviews but very thorough nonetheless. I would love one of these bad boys!! Looking forward to your comparison review!! Thx always!!
From what I understand UHD is 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. True 4k is 4096 x 2160 resolution. That's probably why it is considered true 4k even though it does pixel shifting.
I have a question. Don't you think 10,000.1 is a low contrast, taking in consideration that it is a 4K? We have projectors full HD with rates of contrasts varying from 20,000.1 to 50,000.1 . And contrast has much to do with picture quality. Why did Benq do that with its 4K projectors?
I have a 55” LG oled tv and love it. I really want to go back to a projector and understand there’s trade off but it’s gonna be hard to go back with these black levels. Hopefully someone makes one around $2000 that’s close.
@Majestechs Can you help me, I have this projector but for some reason I cannot select the HDR option in the settings menu, I don't have a workaround on this, did you face this problem when you used this product?
Im not gonna lie, im all tv first but would love to get a projector for the movie moments! But a projector and a tv is not something my budget would allow. Great videos! Keep it up and let me win💕
I've managed to get a TK800 for ~$1000 at a sale. I already own a w1070 from Benq and I figured it would be a nice upgrade I have a 300cm (~120") wide projection screen and a very dark room I've tried a few 4k HDR blue rays and Planet Earth 4k HDR . It has a bit more "color spread" but the difference in image quality and color is barely noticeable from 1080p W1070 that I own. At least it's not worth the 2.5x price. I would honestly not pay more than 25 - 30% more from my 1080p Benq projector(that is now ~$450 retail -my cousin got one for himself a few days ago after he saw the difference between the two at my place) just because you can't really see the difference, even on a very large screen, from a not so long distance. Oh, and that light border is so annoying.. if yours doesn't have one atm, you will notice it. A lot ! . I've returned the TK800 since in a side by side vs the 1080p model it's not worth the money.
good video ! are u able to do a Viewsonic 4k pj review ?,thats the lowest 4k pj you can buy .ViewSonic PX727-4K or 747. i ordered the 747 cant wait to try it. it was on sale for under $1000
Great review as always. Purchased the TK800 and rerurned it after few days. Terrible terrible picture too much red and yellow. Tried to calibrate it but no luck.Serious eye pain for 2 days. Worst projector ever
