This was really good stuff. Thank You for sharing this information. I also use a Killer Instinct crossbow. Mine is rated at 425 fps, can't remember the model name. 2020 model. What I am wondering about is....is there a way to or reason to adjust either of the limb tensions? I guess that what I am asking is somewhere in the lines of.... is there an initial factory set-up that can possibly change after 100 or so bolt discharges?

Great question, probably one best answered by your local KI dealer or a KI rep. I’ve kept all my bows at factory settings.

Sighting in my speed ring scope. Sight in is at 20 yds to begin. After getting 20 yds. Set I used speed ring to get 30 yds. Set. Both 20 and 30 dead on. Using 40 yd. line, 40 is shooting 3”high every time. Left and right is good. What is going on?
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors Год назад
I would dial the speed UP until 40 yard dot is in, the recheck 30. 0-30 yards your arrow is still shooting very flat, so it shouldn’t move your 30 POA much (if at all).

Very interesting, I know many that paper-tune arrows, mainly target shooters. I know a couple guys that paper tune bolts, I think its depending on the crossbow as to whether or not its useful or possible. Using excalibur with stock setup I can honestly say I don’t see how it will or could help. Stock bolts flat nocks any vane down doesn’t matter they all fly the exact same. Using bolt cutter broad heads yes i do try to get the blades matching the vanes but i never noticed performance in flight or impact. Now with hen and cock fletchings well yes these are more like arrows now rather than bolts.

Thanks for the mock tuning and I’m wondering you said to mark your fletching does this work with all bolts ? I’m talking like Excalibur Diablo bolts
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors 3 года назад
I’m not familiar with those particular bolts...however if you have the ability to shoot each of the fletchings as the “down” fletching this will work. Once you find the fletching position that flys best, mark it with a sharpie so you know that is your new “odd feather/down feather.”

I need a new broadhead target too. I’ve been using an old block with an old 3D target behind it. Need an upgrade 🙂

Centerpoint Sniper XT 390, Black Eagle Executioner 20", 3" fletching, 9.0 gpi, 110gr insert. The best point weight was 100gr. Puts me at 426gr total. Not as heavy as I want. When I shoot heavier points, I get nock low and left. Any advice?

But... Instead of turning your nock and shoot trough paper, why don't you just find the stiffer side of the arrows (bolts), with an arrow spine tester (or let a bow shop do this for you) and, at this point, fletch your bolts with the stiffer side down on the rail ? When you have done this, you can just play with different point/insert weights and FOC to see wich one is the best. I know there are some archery shops that sell spine indexed bolts (also already fletched), online too.
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors 3 года назад
Yes, spine indexing would absolutely work. Nock tuning is just a “rougher” form of spine indexing. I actually just bought a dial indicator to try my own spine indexing, more to come soon!

If you go to a heavier insert as you suggested, won't you be changing the stiffness of your arrow?
@draggindeeroutdoors
@draggindeeroutdoors 3 года назад
Adding weight to the front of the bolt technically decreases the spine. But, if more weight up front is what a bolt needs to fly better...I say do it. Every bolt brand/model is different, some need none or very little, others need more. Just remember the goal is perfect bolt flight!! Here’s a good article too for reference: www.bowhuntingmag.com/editorial/the-benefits-of-front-heavy-arrows/309131
@danielbridgford3887
@danielbridgford3887 3 года назад
Adding a heavier broadhead will decrease spine. Adding a heavier insert will beef up your arrow and stiffen spine. It sounds like you don't realize the difference.
@draggindeeroutdoors

@@danielbridgford3887 "It's important to use a relatively stiff shaft when using a lot of weight in the front end of the arrow. The dynamic spine (stiffness) of the arrow decreases as weight is added to the front of the arrow. The dynamic spine is a measure of how stiff the arrow acts as it is being accelerated by the bowstring. The more weight on the front end of the arrow, the weaker the shaft will act. The static spine is a measure of the shaft's stiffness at rest. The static spine will remain the same no matter how much weight is added to the front of the arrow" This is from www.bowhuntingmag.com/editorial/the-benefits-of-front-heavy-arrows/309131 I take "weight at the front end of the arrow" to be insert + point. Maybe you take that to mean just point weight. Regardless, I can say that from our experience after paper tuning, if you find a total weight up front that a bolt likes (insert + point) it doesn't matter how you mix and match the points and inserts as long as the total is maintained. Ex: If I get a bullet hole through paper with 200 grain point + 25 grain...i still get a bullet point through paper if i shoot the same bolt with a 100 grain insert and 125 grain point.
@danielbridgford3887

@@draggindeeroutdoors Not true at all. Longer heavier inserts will stiffen an arrow. I've done it many times.

I don't need to quote anyone. I know better. I also watched your paper tuning video. You guys don't even know enough to use a solid rest. Amateurs. Inserts are inside an arrow not on the front of it. Get a clue.
