I’ve put 3000 rounds through my APX and love it. Swapped the springs out for competition ones and using it for IPSC. Reliable, accurate and fun to shoot
Glad to see the Beretta APX getting some love. Haven't seen too many videos about the APX since it was released. In my opinion, the Beretta APX line is one of the best (if not the best) deal you can get for handguns with the quality and features that you are getting. To me the trigger is a little spongy (love the break though) and taking out the trigger module is more difficult compared to other guns out there, but I don't really care about that at $300-325. You can almost buy two APXs for the same price as the popular handguns from other brands. I never own a Beretta handgun before (mainly own Sig and M&P with 1 Walther and 1 Glock), but I've been very happy with my APX.
You can get 20 rounders with the extended base plate. I have 2 of them. This is also a modular frame design, so you can swap out frame colors since the trigger housing is the serialized part of the firearm. 😎🤙🏼 It's very simple to do. I swapped out the grey frame and put the black back strap on, and it looks mighty sexy
I had the same problem with my APX. I could not consistently group my shots for nothing. I couldn't figure out if it was me or the gun. I had a buddy try it out and he had better luck than I did but still not super consistent. None the less, I bid farewell to the APX.
I've had my apx centurion for about 3 months and I've put close to 800 rounds thru it. It's never wondered from where I aimed. Never malfunctioned as well.
Grabbed my APX as soon as they came out. Not an issue since day one. Eats everything and accurate, friends that shoot it are surprised at how comfortable it is.
Very strange. Good luck figuring it out. I picked one up recently and it is very accurate. I shoot it better than my G17 G5. It’s a great value at the new lower prices.
I appreciate you going out of your way to emphasize it could be your handling of the gun. Yet as some point you have to admit that the gun maybe defective. I would send it back to the manufacturer.
You guys are guitar guys too. So you understand having a few Gibsons, Fenders, Gretschs, ect. laying around never hurt anyone. Same with firearms. Let them all play, even the funny ones.🤟
I bought one when they first came out it came with two 21 round mags and cabelas had a special with Beretta four four more free by mail, my gun has been flawless
Looks like a good little pistol, all these polymer lightweight pistols hurt my accuracy during target shooting though. The best handgun I ever owned and shot was my Smith & Wesson .500 magnum 10.5” barrel Performance Center revolver, I for sure knew it was in my hand and it was the most accurate and comfortable revolver I will ever shoot...
@@katiek.8808 not the most comfortable to carry, as well as only holding 10 in the factory mags. 1 of my mags dont feed reliably also. But it is accurate.
@TTiger 8626 I would be contacting beretta about the mag. Thanks for the answer I was just curious. I find it comfortable to carry. I’m not so worried about round count as most. I carry either my px4 or 92fs. It’s definitely more comfortable than the 92. In comparison the 92 is much heavier.
@@katiek.8808 yes it is, Have that also and a taurus pt92, both are heavier than the px4 even though they are a smaller caliber. I usually carry for my EDC a canik tp9DA.
Hey guys normally I don't comment, just watch. But today I must. I've had an apx since early 2017 and it has become one of my favorite shooters. Great trigger and multiple times I have stacked round on top of round while plinking. I truly believe that you have a lemon on your hands. Please send it back then re-review what you get back. Hate to see one of my favorite pistols flop on your channel. Thanks for what yall do and keep it up.
You might've just got a turd. Every other reviewer raves about the trigger. Short take up, breaks like glass, crisp tactile return. Send it back and let Beretta check it out for you. Sounds very atypical for the firearm.
I have recently acquire a APX Carry, and I felt the same as you... shots were all over the Place even at 10 yds. So, I thought it was me, but then, I shot with a Sig 320 and later with a Glock 23 and got way better groups. The APX isn’t a bad gun but I think there is something about it that have you getting 4-6” groups at ranges as close as 7-10yds. So, it wasn’t you having a bad day!
I own the full size, compact, and the carry. I've had excellent accuracy with all 3 using different types of target and defense loads. Maybe this one has a defect?
Bought one on BUD’s with the LE/Military discount for around 350 when these weren’t that popular last year ...love this pistol. Everyone asks what it is when they first see it.....
I appreciate Eric just saying he doesn`t know why he is having accuracy problems. This is what makes shooting so interesting to me. There is a reason but it can be difficult to find.
I have one in FDE and I want to like it. Unlike other people I like the look of it. Unfortunately I had the same experience, Shoots all over the place. I’m hesitant to completely blame but the gun, but I shot my P10c and VP9 the same day and they grouped fine.
I agree i have the APX centurion and im shooting 3" groups just fine at 15 yards. I think their particular barrel was cut a lil funky. They should send it back
I literally just bought the APX compact a few days ago and haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. I’ve been watching reviews and this is the first bad review I’ve seen.
@@heloanp81 it's nowhere as bad as they make it sound. It's a Beretta!!! Mine is fantastic. It's my second gun ever and I shoot it better than the first pistol I bought and I've had more training with my first pistol. I really think he got a lemon. Idk how or why but they should just definitely send the barrel back. Or if they just shoot it some more. They just may have to learn that one
I’m a lefty, so finding a pistol that’s ambi is hard. I had it narrowed down to the APX compact or the CZ P10C. Both guns had excellent reviews and both brands have a good reputation. I ended up choosing the Beretta just because it was $329. I love how the APX feels in my hand and the trigger may not be as good as the P10C, but it’s not a bad trigger and I can put that $100 that I saved on buying it over the CZ into the trigger if I end up not liking it. I agree that 8888 must have gotten a lemon. I’m sure he’ll figure out what’s wrong with it and get her fixed to show how good it really is.
I bought a Centurion I love it the trigger gets better after 200 rounds, I been also firing the APX Full and I don't see what you guys are seeing about some rounds go top right...
I have the plain jane centurion 9mm with no threaded barrel and I basically dont even look at my glock 19 anymore i get the best groups with my centurion you must have been off or got a lemon but i do have a 4 inch barrel n the one you are shooting is a 5inch?
I have seen a lot of videos of guys putting in the Galloway precision 20 or 22 pound recoil spring assembly in it made a huge difference they were putting most of the shots in a 2 to 2 1/2 inch group at 10 to 12 yards so that is a funky recoil spring assembly in there And only 17 pounds something to think about
There are 21-round extended magazines available. Beretta is being very aggressive with their pricing on these things. Many people find that the larger backstrap allows them to shoot a little more accurately, since the APX uses very small grip circumferences in their design. In my experience, the APX pistols that I have shot are capable of 2" groups at 25 with good ammo, and 2.5" - 4" with cheaper stuff. I think a lot of people initially struggle with the small grips and different trigger. My APX target so far promises to be even more accurate. It's very possible you got a lemon, but I've seen a lot of people struggle with their APX triggers and grips initially before they get things squared away. At any rate, mine shot very well with Tac-XP Black Hills 115gr +P. If you're not able to get a 2" - 3" group with match ammo, I'd definitely think you got a lemon. At any rate, you're not alone in having an "off day" the first time you get your APX out there, and I haven't read anything about out of spec APX's shooting with poor accuracy on things like the Beretta Forum outside of one or two who's frames were out of spec and switching out the frames fixed the accuracy issues (something you could try). In fact, if it were showing serious signs of consistently not shooting well, the first thing I would do is try a frame swap on the gun, as that's the only thing I've seen in the wild affect the accuracy.
Try a new or stronger recoil spring. A weak or out of spec spring will unlock the action too early. The bullet doesn't have time to leave the barrel before the next cycle. Sometimes there's a bad batch of parts, or manufacturers cuts corners. Outside of that it's more serious like the barrel.
I'm noticing that it shoots diagonally placed groups. Most likely there is some bigger movement in those directions. I would send it back to Beretta. They either grinded more from the barrel or drilled egg shaped hole in slide. Low left could be shooters fault, but high right most likely isn't.
Me to , tested one today,, trigger was almost as good as a canik,, take-up is extremely short and reset was minutely longer than canik, I wouldn't turn around for the difference,, come on guys, this trigger snob shit is sometimes taken too far, I have found myself turning into one because of all the videos I've watched, this trigger is excellent imo, maybe it was just the one I held, but I held a top of the line canik side by side with it,, hardly any difference
Yeah, I agree on all of this trigger nonsense. Every gun is different and you must be adaptable. I have never been inaccurate with a single weapon to include single action revolvers, double action revolvers, semi auto handguns, semi auto rifles, bolt action rifles and 12 gauge shotguns. 30 years of shooting and I have yet to experience this sort of issue. This list also includes milsurp. I guess I could just be lucky in that regard. I have found that your mindset is the most important. I just see how a gun feels at first and then adjust what I'm doing to become accurate. I don't know about gun reviews anymore. I don't expect a gun to fit me. I expect to adapt to the gun.
I've got 10 or so different Beretta pistols, but never had an accuracy problem with the APX. I've used Fiocchi, Magtech and S&B. I'm gonna have to go out on the range today and check again. Maybe got a bad barrel?
The trick to getting good groups with this gun for me was getting use the trigger and configuring using the a palm swell that fits your hand right. The guy who sold me this gun had larger hands and I couldn’t get my finger around the trigger, which hurt my groups, but after replacing the palm swell with a smaller one I was getting groups equal to my sig P320. The guy traded me the APX for an old Eotech and I have to say it’s a great gun. My only complaint about it is that the recoil spring is so strong that you could potentially slip off of the slide when trying to rack a round in with wet hands or in a slippery situation. But hey, a for a reliable modern firearm, under $300, I couldn’t be happier.
Also the ergo's on this thing are great! My dad isn't a gun guy at all, but he picked up and said it felt so great in his that he was wondering if he could buy it from me lol.
When you have a gun like this that is shooting all over, it would be nice to see a bunch of rounds through the gun, then maybe switch to a gun you know you are shooting well with, just to confirm you're shooting is on
15 minutes of shooting, a different shooter, a rest, all done by a military veteran who now shoots many thousands of rounds every year for his daily profession. what more do you want? this is not representative of all APXs, however it IS a representation. maybe it's just a single lemon, but I'm quite sure these guys' "shooting is on"
clearly you aren't a regular viewer. slow, tedious paper tests are not found here. if that's the level of testing on a 9mm handgun needed to satisfy you, I suspect you can find other videos.
Awesome review however I have a few asshole things to say, so take it with a grain of salt. A true marksman blames themselves, not the gun. Find where you lack and fix it. I do understand you've never fired it, and expected your shooting to be all over. Just like when I shoot the uncomfortable ugly legos known as Glocks with their crap triggers. 1. If you put that APX in a vice, and did repeat shots, each bullet would go through the same hole (give or take a few mm for you naysayers). No other reviewers, or me, an owner, have ever had accuracy issues. In fact, many have praised its ability to shoot tight groups. 2. You watched your pal shoot it making sure he didn't do anything to hurt the accuracy. Well, as even you know, the finger placement and grip style can MAJORLY affect this. Both of which, the human eye cannot see. 3. You mentioned it might be the sights, shortly after stating how heavy duty they are. Eliminating that as an option. I have never, nor will ever, have any issues placing tight shot groups with the APX. Unfortunately it seems like you're just not as good of a shot as you think you are. Which is totally fine! Just be able to recognize and improve it. Thanks again for your reviews. Still appreciated your review!
@@ReezyE405 from a company that averages a malfunction only once every 30,000 shots fired, I doubt that. They've been making weapon systems for almost 500 years. They don't let junk leave the shop.
When I shot my APX the sights printed high about 2.5 inches. I put an adjustable sight on mine. There are many sight combos on the Beretta website. I like my sights at point of aim not a 6 o'clock hold like the stock sites seem to be.
I bought mine from PSA about 2 weeks ago for $329. Honestly only run 300 rounds through it so far. You are right about the trigger being spongy. It fed everything, but groupings were not great. Ergonomics really aren't bad.
@@dallasparty316 Honestly it is not a bad pistol. My CZ has a better trigger. I don't think I would buy it again, But I will hang on to it. I think at the $330 price it isn't a bad deal.
So, i caught when you said, before you had even ever shot the gun...that you "swapped the barrel." To which barrel? And WHY?! Mine is perfectly fine with the stock barrel. Im just really confused as to why you'd get a different barrel, especially before you'd ever fired it?? Maybe that's your problem. 👍
You can't sight this weapon like a pumpkin on a stick your frount sight is larger then the back it has to be down even and cover your target I have one and love it( it's designed for the cops and military to quickly find the target) thanks
$284 @ Locked and Loaded Ltd. Despite the poor customer reviews, I contacted them directly via FB and they shipped it to me today after I ordered it Tuesday. Hopefully it performs better than his!
Holy shit, its true. This gun is a steal at twice the price. APX Centurion exudes quality and mine has been perfection. This is literally the best deal in shooting.
Ive put 4-5k rounds through my APX and never seen something like this. Truth to be told likes 124gr bullets the most but I am able to shoot 90-95 at 25m no problem. Additionally it has never malfunctioned. I also have bul storm and Canik tp9 and Beretta is my favorite
Sounds to me like the trigger has too much “play” involved. It might be pulling your point if aim out. Another issue I’ve read about. The capture spring system inter coiled causes a spiraling affect on the barrel action. Some out there have opted for an aftermarket APEX trigger spring , and a single barrel spring. I have the Beretta APX .40 and have thought that barrel heating may have been occurring. I’ll most likely be looking into some upgrades on mine for similar reasons. Contemplating accuracy isn’t a good thing under stress especially in a populated environment where you may need to stop an active shooter. Hoping I can get this one to where it will feel like my 92 FS With the 92FS... I contemplate nothing other than where to hit a bad guy first ( to immediately kill or just be mean).
John Prophet same here, I can literally keep rounds in a 12 by 12 at 50 yards with it standing and no rest. And I am not competition worthy by no means possible lol. The thing is accurate as hell.
@@kentucky89nation17 all I can say is he must have gotten a lemon. I've owned many pistols, and the APX is by far one of the sweetest shooting pistols I've owned.
What about a barrel replacement or new Barrel pin. Flyers usually are the result of variations in velocity which is due to variations in the powder charge in the case. This is why hand-loading can produce superior results to factory loads. A chronograph can give you indications if this is happening. Please put this through chronograph and video it and see what happens
At in 2016 i was down to 2 pistols, apx n the p320..after having everyone say sig i choose the p320. N it may of been the single n only correct choice ive made in my life. I love the p320s, i have many and i can shoot them really, really good...but since beretta re-released the APX n reduced pricing for a combat pistol that was directly made for the military trails. Ill probably get it now....well those wondering shots aren't very great.
Bought one last week. The trigger is...... Different to say the least. If it werent for me being used to shooting double action revolvers i wouldnt be able to get behind it. Keep in mind the front sight is noticbly larger than the rear. Good for sight picture, but it really harms its accuracy. Unfortunatly, to my knowledge only berretta makes dofferent sighta for it, and they all will likely have that problem. Overall i like the gun, and the price makes it worth it entirely, to me at least. Its my first striker-fired polymer gun.
Glock is $100+ more. Could i afford it? Yes, but it would have been noticed. Dont know abpout the p10c. Honestly never heard of it. I considered the apx, glock, s&w and a few others. The apx fot my hand better than the rest. I didnt have a range close to me that had a rental, so i made my choice. I personally like the gun, its accurate enough for me. I was hitting sub-4 groups at 25yrds, way beyond my expectations for use, however it didnt really get below 2 inch groups at closer range. Maybe i lucked out on my gun, maybe Eric got a dud. Idfk man. I like the gun personally.
Hey Eric obviously I’m a little late to the party. Not sure if you still have/shoot this APX. I have all four versions of the APX and absolutely love all of them. For the full size they do have an extended 21 round magazine available.
I realize that it's two years on. But I think it might be that particular weapon. I just got one and it's spot on thus far. I'll watch your follow up video and see what you have found.
i will stick with my g17 and g26, both of these guns are super reliable and shoot very accurately, the baby glock will take all double stack mags that glock makes in the 9mm. the g17 was my very first pistol i ever owned and i bought the g26 for a carry gun.
I notice an audible click and then an immediate boom... you might be slapping the trigger quickly after resetting it instead of firing and then taking the slack back out before final sight alignment and then the trigger press
I love the APX but I couldn’t shoot mine well until I installed the green Beretta competition striker spring. The grip feels great and it looks cool. Mines been completely reliable through 1400 rounds of FMJ.
I just bought a apx compact because it was so cheap. I wanted a decent cheap gun i could conceal when I’m working outside. Ive taken it to the range once along with a Glock 19 I just bought. I was pleasantly surprised with its accuracy, and was shooting it just as good as the 19. I’ve not put many rounds thru it yet, but I was happy with my purchase. I’m still a Glock fanboy though.
You guys should to Randsom Rest your pistols before off hand shooting. That way we can find out how mechanically accurate a pistol is vs how accurate the pistol allows the shooter to be (ease of trigger pull, ergonomics, sight picture, blah blah blah). I would love to see that in future pistol reviews.
I love the APX line. However I hate the stock sights. The big baseball on the front kept me from being accurate and consistent. However I changed out the stock sights for fiber optic and I can now stack my groups easily
This is the very first review I have seen that the trigger was spongey and the accuracy was sub par. Hmmm. Will have to do more research. And have you tried inserting the round to the plate on the loading tool then keeping downward and back pressure on the round as you bring the tool up past the lip of the round?
