Went to Cole in Maine last month to see the 694 in person. Thought it was a little clunky and bulky. After that visit I bought a 682 Gold with 682 Gold E barrels (lighter weight with Optima chokes). For me, this gun is a better gun for about 1/2 the price of a new 694.

694 needs better wood for the money you pay for it. So many of them in the shops look so plain, and its a 4 grand gun.

@N0ggie it's a bit annoying to be fair. My wife's gun is an 828u and the wood on that is quite alot better

Ceasar Geurini is a better option or a browning XS pro

I picked up a 694 sporter in may. Was using a 686 sporter before hand. Score and consistency went up straight away. In my case I went into buy a 687 III or 687 V liked both was trying to decide and the sales man put the 694 in my hand. It fit me like a glove. And as I said above. First time shooting it, instant improvement. Now 4 months in and shooting it 100 clays a week. It hasn't missed a beat and I'm actually glad I decided to go with it. Wouldnt change a thing. Very happy indeed

Recently upgraded my 686 to a 694 and it is silky smooth. Could not be happier. It is incredible difficult to find a low mileage Gold-E these days.

During my last visit to England in 2010 I had the choice of a 682 Gold E and a SV10 Prevail III. I felt the Gold E handled like a log compared to the Prevail which I bought and still use for hunting and competition to this day. The Prevail was a marketing error on Beretta's part because once you have one there is no need to buy another Beretta, ever.

In 1994 I bought a Beretta 682 Skeet with 28” barrels. I shot an average of 10 tournaments per year with that gun until 2001. You couldn’t kill that gun, only once did it break a firing pin spring and I still was able to finish the hundred. Truly a work horse and worth every Penny. I purchased it with Kolar tubes for $2200.

Bought my 682 gold e back in 2009 as my first competition gun. Still have it and love it to bits. It has been retired from competitive use, though.

Just upgraded from the 686 Silver Pigeon Sporter Grade 1 to the 694. Really like the gun and has the adjustable comb; so had an expert check it out with the gun mounted and he made the adjustments and I added from Cole’s a 1/2 “ Competition Spacer to give me my necessary LOP of 15 1/4. Nice gun for the money! I understand some of the parts used are on the expensive DT11.

Got a 694 32'' with stock weights fitted, 50/50 balance and love it. Had an F3 before and prefer the Beretta

I had a 682 Gold E for quite a few years (bought new, back in 2006, I believe) and I regret selling it. If I find a mint condition one, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Got the 694 a few months ago. The first one the retailer sent me couldn't be assembled (...I know... strange, eh?! How was that gun proofed, if the barrel couldn't be mounted on the receiver!?) Finally got a good one, bought some Teague Titanium super extended chokes for it and added a weight in the b-fast system in the stock (I believe it's the 40 grams tungsten one) and now it balances on the hinge pin (32" barrels). Had two attempts to shoot it, and the LOP is ridiculously long for me. My understanding is that Beretta makes two LOP for this gun -- eh, well, seems like I've got the model with the longest LOP. Can't mount it properly, can't hit anything with it. So, now I'm waiting for a custom (bespoke) stock... and hopefully the situation will improve... (Not that I use it much, but the Beretta case that came with the 694 it's nicer than the old, blue case of my 682... However, the case doesn't make the gun better, I just thought I'd mention it, though...)

Have a 694 32" and love it. Had a 686 SP1 30" and like the 694 better. Adjustable stock model I have has nice wood. The pistol grip fits my large hand well.

I own both and the 694 is a step up in my opinion. With that said, the Gold E is an excellent sporting shotgun for the price.

Most "Beretta" fans will tell you, the best sporters were produced in the 80's, 682L,682DL and the 682 Gold with the greystone action. Like all guns then, they were not made to a price point, they were made properly. The DT10 was a different beast altogether, made again to a completely different price point.

Bought a Gold E 30" for my first gun and still got it. Lovely gun but I sometimes think it's a bit rear end heavy. I need to look for stock weights!

I shot a 682 gold E for many years but it was one that kicked hard! not so bad in my younger days but became uncomfortable as I got older. I then bought a new 694 that was ok recoil wise but it shot very low. Shortly after I got it, the top lever began to hit the expanding stock & the forend wood shrank to leave a big gap to the metal work. I then found the rib was higher at the muzzle than at the breech & it was sometimes difficult to open. The triggers changed weight during a shoot causing missed targets. I sold it after the guarantee work was done. That 694 was the worst gun I've had, definately not worth the money in my view. Most people I've met that have a 694 have had problems that needed the gun to be returned, one shooter had his not fire the second cartridge but then was unable to open it to extract the live round! My local RFD has stopped selling them because of all the troubles they have had to deal with. I bought an unused MK38 online which has been brilliant, and it was a quarter of the price! It has even, consistant trigger pulls and is a heck of a lot easier to clean out the barrels.

It’s interesting to see you complimenting beretta’s for once I personally given the option of a 694 or 682 gold E would go with the Gold E on handling I’ve always found beretta’s very easy to shoot in my eye beretta haven’t really evolved until you get to the 690 series the 680s are very much all very similar. I do like the fact there is now an option for a 694 black edition that alone would be enough to tempt me into shooting a beretta again.

I bought a 694 the trigger was very sloppy had the 694 for a year and gotten rid of it. The DT -11 is a good one. The golden e is old school. They don't make them like this anymore. So I always keep my eyes peeled for one. But the newer beretta's well there's alot better out on the market even with better customers service as well!!!!

There is a big difference between the two shotguns, the 682 Gold E it's a very good shotgun in the past, but the 694 with the new technology and the steelium plus barrels much better than the 682 .

Nice comparison, David. Now do a comparison of the latest Beretta offerings. I'm sure people would like to know what might be the next "top gun". DT11 or?

So the 694 has new barrels, a weighting system on those barrels, weights for the stock, (not mentioned here), a lower comb, different pistol grip and trigger, a different and nicer fore end, yet they are near enough identical? Nonsense. Ironically he hit more clays using the 694. Enough said.

Never shot with these 2 😶....but my 686 SP I is also getting too hot on the fore end if I shoot a lot (AT least 25 shots) with it. It is really not comfortable, but the gun IS a great shooting tool, so...I'll try the tin foil trick😉

The 682 was when beretta put passion into gun making, now they just are a marketing giant, machine built and new "model" designs non stop to move product, great sales tesm but they aren't what i would call gun craftsmen anymore
