Proper assembly and disassembly .... so that no components of the gun are under stress or pressure. the video demonstrates how to store the gun so that the firing pins and release lever mechanism is not under pressure as recommended by the beretta manual.
Hope the video is useful and if so please look up my other videos at "youtube Roger Pace Channel" Thank You

I always find your videos to be very interesting and informative. Largely due to your seemingly fond appreciation for this particular shotgun, I recently purchased my own Silver Pigeon 1. I find your videos on cleaning and care far more interesting than reading owner’s manuals. Keep up the great work, sir.

I bought a Berretta SP1 Sporter second hand (no manual) so that process of barrel selector on 1/ snap-cap fire/ then switching the barrel selector to 2/snap-cap fire.. has saved me from slapping the rear stock to inertia switch the barrels 👌 Thankyou for the tip!

Great video, thank you. I just hold a nickel firmly against each firing pin to release the pressure. It’s soft enough to dent similar to a primer and this saves the assembly/disassembly steps.

Thank you. This is exactly the information i was searching for. I inherited a Beretta S686 Special from my late father and have no idea how to store it properly. I have never used nor been taught the use and care of it. However, he did mention about releasing spring tension before storage long time ago, now i know how. He used to dry fire it though not very often as it is almost never used.

Thank you sir for this excellent video, it answered several questions about the Silver Pigeon that I had. Especially how to decock the hammers. Very good video, thank you Roger. On my new 686 I have to depress the release lever pin with the very end of my finger nail to make sure it's pushed far enough into the hole to release the lever tension while, as you pointed out, holding the lever hard to the right. It's a natural pointer and I love it for sporting clays.

I think I have watched all of your videos now. Some several times. Just got a Beretta Silver Pigeon sport III ; 2007 build year. Perfect. Looks factory new. 30 inch barrels. So pleased. Love your comments. Keep them coming. PS , I may get an adjustable stock from the dealer. They do excellent woodwork. My gun shoots low to flat. At 22 yards 60 to 70 percent of pattern was below dead center. My instructor says to keep shooting for a few months, re shoot the pattern board and then decide. Thoughts?

Hi Roger, I'm a recent owner of a Silver Pigeon, and while I do see mention of not storing with firing pins under pressure, my manual says nothing of pressing the small pin on the receiver to get the lever to the "6 'o clock" position. Otherwise, I see nothing potentially different about how you do it. (except I don't store mine disassembled.) I clean, reassemble, use snap caps to pull both triggers, then store, assembled in my safe. Cheers. Still looking forward to my first 25 on trap and skeet. Might go this year to the Dakotas maybe for some pheasant!

Three most common ways to avoid damage to your SP1. 1. Don't lend it to Danny when hunting 2. Don't drag it through a barb wire fence when hunting 3. Make sure you have a big enough safe so you don't bang the stock on another rifle when you pull it out.

Thank you so much Roger for your extremely informative video I will be applying this knowledge to my Silver Pigeon 1 Sporting (not sporter) I just bought a new Beretta 486 Parallelo 12 Gauge, does this apply to the side by side as well I was unable to find any video on how to disassemble and store Beretta 486 Parallelo Could you please advise if it's the same procedure for the side by side? Thank you in advance Roger
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 4 года назад
A basic principle is... if it turns grease it and if it slides oil it...when the parallelo is disassembled i would store it with the receiver facing down to the ground so any oil does not flow back into the receiver ...this applies even if its in the case.
@samg8388
@samg8388 4 года назад
Roger Pace thank you Roger I’m wondering what is the procedure for decocking the firing pins and releasing the lever as shown in your video when you wanna apply it to the Paralello Do you put snap caps and fire both pins and then take the gun down? Opening the gun won’t activate the firing pins and put them under pressure? And the lever? I haven’t brought the gun home yet so I’m just wondering if you could help Thank you

Just purchased my 686 LH Silver Pigeon about a week ago....Some quick questions...this may seem silly but are there any issues storing the gun fully assembled? Seems like the manual implies that it should be disassembled after use? I like to store my shotguns in a locked safe so that is where I store them. Any issues using Hoppes gun oil as opposed to Beretta's gun oil for lubrication? Thank you for taking the time to make your videos!!! Definitely informative and much better than the manual....
@rogerpace9322

I press the lever to the right and the pin down, but it won't come back to the center. Does the safety position have something to do with that?
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 3 года назад
David ...because i only use the gun for trap shooting i actually never have the safety on ...so i really can't answer the question...but...take the safety off and when you press the pin and the lever doesn't go back then i would have the gun looked at by a qualified gunsmith...stay well!!!

Andrew...good to hear from you ...my guns have always been new...used berettas still command a high price so i buy new ...then you know what the gun has been through...my first gun was a silver pigeon i traded it in because it did not have an adjustable stock...that would have to be the most crucial thing on a shotgun ...because then we can adjust it to shoot where we look...stay well!

You can do that...or once you've fired off the snap caps when you take off the fore end and disassemble the gun ...the gun does not re cock.
@ianevans67
@ianevans67 5 лет назад
@@rogerpace9322 Thanks Roger. The only reason I asked was here in the UK we have to keep our guns in a locked steel cabinet and mainly fully assembled. We can't store them in the supplied abs case for security reasons. I wouldn't like to keep it in the safe in pieces because of knocks and corrosion. On most brands the firing pins are under pressure every time you open the gun so leaving snap caps in is probably our best bet.

Hi Roger, great video! Is it ok to disassemble the gun after taking your last shots instead of using snap caps? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing as long as you don't recock or is it dangerous disassemble without first ejecting the spent cartridges. Thanks for your help!
@rogerpace9322
@rogerpace9322 7 лет назад
It would not be dangerous to disassemble the gun with the spent cartridges still in the gun...however as soon as you have finished shooting ...the range rules are that you cannot walk off without the gun being opened...and as soon as you open the gun it recocks ...thats why we put in the snap caps ...fire the two barrels and then dismantle the gun.

Hi Roger, I noticed, that the video is probably cut about 0:51'-0:52' time, when you assemble the gun. Its about the ejectors - when you first assemble the ejectors are out, and just a second after they are in. I have the same problem, after the gun is disassembled and the ejectors are out, it's not easy to put the barrels in - you need to press them to do it. Can you explain that? Regards

Tony...I have heard that the rubber O rings can wear out...I've had mine for 6 months and so far so good...I shoot about 150 rounds per week and so far no problems...the good thing is that the beretta people attend major shoots and you can get the O rings replaced free of charge...I like the gun...stay well!

Hello Roger (amazing videos) I have a quick question. on my silver pigeon I'm having difficulty getting the lever to come back to the center. I press the lever first and push the firing pin down. But the lever just will not go back in the center. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? any advice is appreciated, stay well Roger.

On the silver pigeon the normal position of the lever is between the 5 and the 6 on a clock...after dismantling the gun the lever is to the right ...next to the top firing pin there is a little button that you push while holding the lever to the right.... push down hard on this button and then with your thumb guide the lever back to its resting position...I hope i've understood your question...if not let me know...stay well...Roger
