This Berkeley Plantation is a historic 1726 Georgian Style Mansion built right on the James River. Where well documented settlers on the Good Ship Margaret (my apologies I said Mary while making this video) who sailed to Virginia in hopes of a better life, were hit with bad weather and rough seas on their 2 1/2 month sailing across the Atlantic. Once they landed were told by their captain to get on their knees and thank Almighty God, for them making it across alive. "...shall be a yearly and perpetually kept holy as a day of Thanksgiving to Almighty God." December 1619. This was 13 months before the Pilgrams landed in Massachusetts.
But long after the very first Thanksgiving came this Plantation which was home to Benjamin Harrison V (a signer of the Declaration of Independence) and his grandson William Henry Harrison (9th U.S. President) and his grandson Benjamin Harrison (23rd U.S. President). This mansion has seen about 10 presidents, Union soldiers and so much more. Please watch full video for more history! This place is so rich in history, a well worth stop if your ever in the area.

This historic plantation was great to see and hear about Melissa , found out things I didn't know ! This was such an historic place to visit . That's fascinating that this is where the first thanksgiving was held in 1619 and how that's why it was declared a holy day of thanksgiving to God for the safe crossing of the founding fathers, they were so brave ! This was a beautiful mansion in beautiful grounds and amazing that 10 presidents have lived there and that the first whiskey in America was distilled there along with the composition of the song " Taps " . This place is really rich in history and was great to see , thanks for another well explained tour 👍 ~ Anna

This is an area that we have visited a few times. The historic locations are so interesting. I was born close to where one of the original colonists. John Smith, was born so had an added interest to visit. We did not visit the plantation though as there was so much further down the river that we were keen to see. Interesting video once more. Have a great day.
