I just auditioned for Berklee on the piano. I thought it might be helpful to share my experience with others who might be wondering what to expect.

I'll hear from Berklee admissions at the end of January. I'll keep you posted. I wish you the best of luck on your application. If you have yet to audition, don't be timid. You've got to believe it to achieve it!

@viniciuslennon From what I remember, it was a simple right hand melody of quarter and eighth note with a simple left hand. It progressively increased in difficulty, but it didn't get to hard. Please keep in mind that I auditioned almost a year ago so my mind is a bit fuzzy on it. I would suggest looking at the Berklee website in the audition section. They should have sight reading as well as comping on there. I hope this helps! =)

@andrewmusic95 I wouldn't stress too much because you still have lots of time. I would suggest just to sit down at the piano every day (it doesn't really matter for how long) as long as its productive. I finally understand that now that im in college. As far as music theory goes start by either purchasing a music theory book or taking a theory class, if your high school offers it. Lastly, Berklee is an amazing school, but make sure you have alternates. I would also suggest Belmont.

@mylestravitz Yeah, I live in Geaorgia so it's a long ways away. But I really think it could be worth it. I want to major in music composition and theory and also go through their coarses on music engineering/production amd music managment to start a labaling company but still get the skills from piano to write my own music

I just wanted to say thanks a lot for this video; I auditioned on the piano as well and your walkthrough was really helpful to me. :) I got in but the tuition fees are honestly too steep. So gutted that I can't go, but I guess that getting into Berklee is a motivational thing in itself. :)

Way to Go for auditioning!!! It'll be better not to have all of that debt as a young adult musician anyway!

@andrewmusic95 But make sure you also look at the schools around you because I live in North Carolina and I ended up at ECU because their music department is amazing not to mention their piano department. It's all about what you want out of your playing and what you love.

@ThrashIsBack123 Yeah, I was there as well. The first person that morning. Sadly, I didn't end up going to Berklee because I didn't end up getting much of a scholarship, but I am happy where I am at and I'm now shooting for music production and audio engineering. =D

Can you talk a little bit more about the sight reading, I mean, how hard it is, if you could indicate some examples that are almost as difficult as some of the ones you've seen

Im stressing out about these auditions. Im only in my second year of high school and have played piano for three years but this is the only college I want to attend and my ear and theory isn't too sharp so im trying to find ways to better those aspects of my playing. Any suggestions?

Hey, I'm planning on auditioning for jazz piano at colleges all over the US. I'm from Australia and graduated high school in November 2015 (our school year is different to yours), and I'm hoping to audition for colleges at the end of this year for 2017 intake. I've played piano for 9-10 years, classical training for 6-7 years, and then studied jazz for 3 years at high school. My theory knowledge, harmonic knowledge and overall musicianship is reasonably high I believe, however my sight reading is atrocious. I can read jazz/blues charts pretty well and comp fine, however my normal sight reading in LH and RH combined is atrocious. Like there are kids who have been playing classical for half the time I have that could sight read as well/better than me, is there any way you could elaborate on the standard of sight reading? Also did you audition as a jazz pianist? If so, do they care more so about your general ability to improvise, feel jazz/blues, read chord chards and alternate voicings and comping than traditional sight reading and other tests? I am thinking of auditioning with From Within by Michel Camilo or Tuesday Wonderland by Esbjorn Svennson Trio as my feature piece to best showcase my overall playing ability, and then a standard which I haven't decided yet. Not sure if you know those pieces or artists, but if you did, would you be able to give me an idea of how my potential standard of playing might compare against those who get in to these elite music schools? Being from Australia, I really have no idea just how high the standard is for entry to these colleges as a jazz pianist.
