This was a good review. I've been thinking about pursuing a guitar certificate. I'm going to look at the David Beebee course you talked about.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Berklee Online Jazz Guitar program. I found the key details that you mentioned about each of the courses informative. 🎸👍

Thanks for the video! I am considering taking a blues gutar course or rock guitar course at berklee online next semeter, but I am pretty much a beginner, just wondering whether I could skip the scale 101 and chord 101 and jump to the blues guitar course. I think I can just buy the books for scales and chords and study myself before next semester to save some money

You talk about 3 Notes Per String system. Do You learn CAGED system or 3 Notes Per String system ? And which system do You recommand for playing in all situations includes Legato longer Lines ?

Thanks for this, as I’ve recently been considering the online jazz 101 course yet wondering if it was too advanced. Sounds like maybe not based on your experience with the chords and scales courses. I’ve been playing for 35 years but confidence can be an issue for perhaps no good reason.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the program! If I may ask, do you remember some of the standards that were covered to practise improvisation?
@chrisbedwardmusic
@chrisbedwardmusic 4 года назад
Off the top of my head, Stella By Starlight, Blues for Alice, Anthropology, What is this thing called love, tune up, Autumn Leaves, etc. As well as Jazz forms and etudes illustrating a scale sound or sub. This was between both Jazz Classes. At the end of the second you have to write your own tune with non-functional harmony

If you want some standards to kick off of I'd study Autumn Leaves, Billie's Bounce, Anthropology (or any other Rhythm Changes), Have You Met Miss Jones, and Giant Steps. Covers a lot of ground work for other tunes.

I've never heard the term "imposter syndrome"...man that's perfect. I feel like that a lot, and looking back (I'm older), I can see that it got in the way at times. Thanks for posting this, very informative, no fluff.

Thanks for sharing. What program did you take exactly? I'm looking at Berklee Online right now and I don't see a Jazz Guitar Program. I see a regular Guitar Program, is that what you took ? Or they used to have a Jazz Guitar Program ?

It’s been a few years so no idea if they changed some things around or if it’s hard to find on the site, but they had both a Jazz Guitar and just a Guitar program available.
@chrisbedwardmusic

Just took a look and there is still a Jazz Guitar program. Though don’t feel like you have to do this. You can also get a good teacher and work on a new standard every month. Many avenues you can take.

@@chrisbedwardmusic Did you take the Jazz Guitar Certificate Program? I was looking at Degree programs , maybe that’s why .
@chrisbedwardmusic
@chrisbedwardmusic Год назад
@@matthewinsco6993 yes it was the certificate program. Just remember if you do a certificate program and want the full degree later all your credits and grades will feed into the degree you’re after.

@@chrisbedwardmusic interesting, that’s helpful, thanks..… I am looking for a degree program, as a transfer student because I already have an associates degree…. I just wrote to them to see if I can take the jazz guitar courses for one of their online degree programs. They sound pretty cool after watching your video.

Thank you for this. I've considered the 101 course again and again, and especially for this January session, but $$$$, and it sounds too advanced for my stage of playing. Did the Chords 101 prep you well for the 101 Jazz course? Also can't help but wonder if most if not all of the Berklee content can be found in books, but the idea of have this organized for students is attractive.
@boomerdell

Hi Thomas -- I haven't taken that course yet, although I will in a few sessions, but I am pretty sure you need to take Guitar Scales 101 and Guitar Chords 101 as prerequisites, although I believe you can test out of it by either having someone evaluate you, but you'll need to confirm that.
@wuzhexi4845

I recently enrolled in the blues guitar course, and I am a pretty much beginner with no more than months of guitar experience, and haven't taken the gutar chord 101 and scale 101. I find it is just fine, you just have to work out the chord and scale thing yourself down the road. There are tons of materials about chords and scales online. However jazz guitar maybe more advanced than blues guitar, but if you just want to dive into that course directly just go for it, just put more effort it will be ok.

Hi Chris great review thanks a lot; what are your thoughts on sight reading in general? Is it a skill that's required or developed in the online berklee curricula? thanks
@chrisbedwardmusic
@chrisbedwardmusic 3 года назад
Not a problem. Well the term "sight reading" means to be able to read most things on the spot with no prior exposure versus being able to read music where usually you have prep time and can eventually turn the sheet music into reference. Berklee online at least did not push that in this curriculum though I'm sure there is plenty of courses covering that, that isn't guitar specific. Now I can read music, but I'm not a strong sight reader. Doesn't come up often for what I do, but if you feel you want to strengthen that you don't need school to do it.
@jfar3340
@jfar3340 3 года назад
@@chrisbedwardmusic Right; you're right I shouldn't have said sight reading, I should have said reading standard notation. Are there tabs in the program or is it all standard notation?
@chrisbedwardmusic
@chrisbedwardmusic 3 года назад
@@jfar3340 You get notation, tab and video/audio for all examples. It's a friendly program since all levels can join in up until a certain point. There's no trying out required.
