I visited what was then East Berlin and West Berlin in August, 1990. I have no desire to make any return visits. Despite the problems that I saw in both East Berlin and East Germany. I liked East Berlin better. Much less commercialization. And a slower pace. I can understand why 'Ossis' feel like they were screwed by the so-called unification. More than 33 years after 'joining, large numbers of Ossis are still angry about how they were treated' Even Ossis born well after the Berlin Wall fell are feeling the same way. They are making efforts to remember their culture. And my biggest complaint is that the old Berlin Wall 'trail' should have been kept a greenway. And sections of the Berlin Wall should have been preserved intact so that future generations could have understood the true power of both the Wall and the Innen Deutschen Grenz. Now, the Wall has been turned into a cuddly plaything and the former Checkpoint Charlie has been turned into a 'DisneyLand'.
