i heard this song 38 years ago piece of a gem 🎉🎉🎉 just brings back fond memories 😢 time does fly but what a killer of a song just sounds like it was made a few months ago. Terri indeed had a great vocal range. Take my breath away and dancing in berlin 🎉🎉🎉 such great vocals.
+William Mark Dyer True that. But then again, it has always kicked butt. I just cannot understand why this wasn't the big hit it should have been, overshadowed by the oh so boring (IMHO) - Take my breath away.. yaawwwwnnn. Don't get me wrong, Top Gun is one of my favourite movies & soundtracks, but T.M.B.A. is the worse song on that soundtrack, again, IMHO.
I’m 15 and prefer older music. I also like some new music! Not the stuff on the radio, I’ve never really liked something I heard on the radio lol. I like Berlin, Blondie, old U2, Of Monsters and Men, Florence and The Machine, and thats to name a few.
This comment was not bashing gen z or the new music nowadays by the way. I just know some great music tends to get overlooked and I wish that wasn't always the case. 😅
This song is an absolute classic. With lines like, 'Once they would beg and they would plead but now they demand" are even more appropriate today than they were then.
I got a reference here in this song... Don't know if was intentional, but if was it is fkg amazing, "like flames reaching out from the sun" The sun is usually associated in conspiracy theory circles with illuminati, "sun worshipping", considering the lyrics, and visuals of this vid, is possible to interpret this as a deep and enigmatic critique against the elites that rule us, but overall the lyrics have a light message about class struggles, so it actually does even if the it is unintentional, or maybe even prophetic...
@@efxnews4776 What have been traditionally been dismissed as "conspiracy theories" are little by little being shown to be all too true. Eventually the evil Cabal will fall as do all empires in the fullness of time. It will indeed take time but people are gradually waking up evidenced by your comments and indeed mine on non "conspiracy theory" threads such as this. In my own personal life I have seen people waking up and I have been evangelising with a degree of success. I feel the Cabal are over-stretching themselves and if D.J. Trump gets back in (yes, he is the good guy, not perfect but we know why the election was stolen don't we...?) we can be positive I feel.
This was the first album I got by Berlin when I was a kid. I loved "Take My Breath Away." This song was my favorite. I was so obsessed I even made a Berlin inspired plaque in shop class. I've been a fan for almost 20 years now, most of my life. I've bought every bootleg, album and single. Memories!
Actually, last night they had a gig in Mexico City and despite the fact they didn't play this glorious tune, Berlin included, besides their tunes, cover versions of The Cult's she sells sanctuary and AC-DC's highway to hell
fucking EPIC ! it was a tragedy to see this song slip un-noticed into music history, whilst 'Take My Breath Away' was the biggest thing BERLIN was known for (thanks to TOPGUN). This song i believe has BALLS. Terri Nunn's voice is irriplacable! once she's gone, like the other legends, the world will be a smaller and colder place.
I LOVE Berlin. 'Take My Breath Away' is my least favorite of their songs. p.s. I've read that the Judas Priest song 'Reckless' was almost in the Top Gun soundtrack and if that would have happened, then my 2 favorite bands at the time would have been on the same movie soundtrack.
"Take My Breath Away" was penned by Moroder and Thomas Whitlock, and performed by Berlin. It's very much like getting John Barry to work with the Pretenders for a Bond movie, yeah, ok, it's the band, but not their composition. This track is pure Berlin - 80's power ballad, straight up, no chaser.
You are right, this is a great song and her voice is epic. Unfortunately most only know the Top Gun song and will never realize that Berlin is so much more. You Don't Know is another great song off that album.
The power in that voice still sends shivers down my spine 31 years after I heard it for the first time. (Heard, that evening, on my Toshiba "Portable Radio Cassette Player" that was either a birthday or Christmas present the year before!)
I was single in USN in the 80's, had money to burn. Had this album on CD and a "portable" player. My shipmates looked at me strangerly when I maxed the volume in my headphones.
This song absolutely rocks!! Total injustice that this wasn't a worldwide smash and number one hit; deep meaningful lyrics, great visual video, superb and passionate vocals sung by Terri, rocking drum beat, just a sensational song all round!
i love the way these videos were made, the golden age of video making when they were all still making it up as they went. Terri Nunn is a great too , acting, vocals she's just so great!
Typically, when I look into a musician or group's discography, I find the I find their best known works are the best known for a reason. Never have I found that hidden gem that time forgot-- until now.
One of my favorite songs from the 80's. It's one of the most under-rated songs from that decade. Also, the desert scenery is awesome. The tune of this song makes you want to go into battle... very powerful !!
Damn! I must admit back in the 80s when I was a teen the quality of this band and especially of Teri Nunn totally escaped me. I wish I could live trough the 80s again with the wisdom and experience I got now!
We all do man, we all do. I actually got to meet them in 1986 when they were just getting huge with take my breath away. And I have other stories about them. They are amazing and her voice is undeniably strong. Too bad they never became as popular as they deserved. But you know she still tours today and she’s got Dave diamond and John Crawford back. So it’s not just nostalgia, they are still making new music!
@@ricnix3547 of course that stuff is great, but the pop music was not bad at all. I always enjoyed it and I was able to appreciate so many different styles. There are great pop 80s songs and this is one of them. Too bad not enough people recognize it. I’ve said since 1982 she has got a hell of a voice and style.
You´d need a VERY creative, original, educated, clever and sensitive youth in order to bring that back. Ask one of our moronic nephews to play that battery/guitar without opening garage band on his mac... hahahaha
Pedro Guillem Wise spoken. I did everything to show my nephew the way of light , since he was a baby. At one point i really thought that i could "save" him, but the influence in his bloody school and his bellends friends were stronger. Now he's 13 and...a Lady fuckin' Gaga fan. My only consolation is that he doesn't like rap. He's smart and sensitive but the whole framework doesn't help, the kids today grow up in a judgemental uptight society and their creativity and personality gets killed in the cradle. At least i'm still kind of a hero for my nephew, he can't believe how i managed to date girls as a teen..without Facebook and mobile phones ;-D
I've been waiting to see this video again for years! but I didn't know the name of the track, now I do and it's going straight into my favourites for safe keeping. I allways preferred this song to 'Take My Breath Away'. That husky powerful voice of hers is in contrast to that delicately beautiful face, and she still looks great today too! I remember it being a follow up to 'Take My Breath Away' but didn't do nearly as well, it should of. An underrated band if ever there was one.
Yes, always makes me think that Brill should've kept writing songs for them, instead of Crawford, cuz way more depth. Sad, cuz in the end they disbanded because of the direction the rest of Berlin wanted to go, which Brill didn't agree with. That seems to be the official story at least.
scalpelli All would agree JC wrote with great depth as well. Both Brilliant if you’ll excuse the pun. But yes it’s a loss they disbanded. Glad they reunited though!
I have never heard this song on the radio ,I know it from a Music cassette wich i bought in 1987 it was called:Rock the night. Sorry for the Bad english, greetings from the Netherlands.
Van Halen - 1984, The Outfield - Play Deep, and Berlin - Count Three and Pray = three of my favorite albums of the 80's......played em on cassette and let them auto reverse until they wore out.
I just LOVE that song and LOVE that video! It only reached # 82 on Billboard back in 1986, which is amazingly strange. The song just still moves me, after more than 30 years!
Why this song wasn't a bigger hit is confounding! "Take My Breath Away" was quite a departure and seemly a tough act to follow. "Like Flames" brought Berlin back to its musical roots and a small dose of pop. Still a great song.
menchitty11 it was a common pattern in teh 80s, bands reached mass appeal later in their career when their more diluted work became famous. Not just Berlin, but Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, REM and so forth.
Until recently Take My Breath Away was the only Berlin song I knew...and I grew up in the 80s. The song I came across recently that turned me on to more of their music was Metro... definitely much different than TMBA lol.
@@ashleyjohansson230 - like other comments on here, that's rather subjective. What Take My Breath Away had going for it was Top Gun and their love scene. Sappy love song, but definitely well written. Like Flames had a lot more energy and could have been a huge single if it had been better promoted and gotten the same airplay. It takes a couple of listens to pull you in, unlike TMBA, which most listeners first heard in the theatres. But one song isn't better than the other - they really aren't even by the same band. Only Terri Nunn participated in TMBA. The other members of Berlin aren't even on it.
I glad your still singing your an ageless beauty and one of my top favorite female singers. Your my idol and inspiration we have similar vocals. I love singing your songs as a well seasoned singer at the local Karaoke bars.
Nostalgia?? Berlin are still as great as ever!! But I'm in bloody Stoke on Trent, England! It would be an absolute dream if they could come over some time + play!🤞🤞♥️
1st time I have heard this song and I have missed out all these years. Teri's voice is sublime - strong and beautiful. BERLIN had one of the best sounds in the 80s.❤
Why on earth did Count Three & Pray tank? It's really solid from beginning till the end. One mega-hit and great videos which show the personality of the band. And 1986 wasn't too late for this kind of music. I know Berlin had internal conflicts but come on. This album is a forgotten masterpiece.
The record was uneven, and a tad darker than their previous two releases. There was also well-documented tension between Terri and John, and they weren't interested in working together afterwards. In the "Bands Reunited: Berlin" episode, Terri refers to their split as a "bad divorce," and later on, John confirms that Terri bought the name Berlin out from under him, and told him that "you'd be working for me" if he tried to use the name later, which was a huge point of contention in that he was the creative genius behind the songs. He wrote or co-wrote all of their hits except TMBA.
Mr. Orange Justice86 Indeed. The record is very uneven. You have 3 producers working on the album at different intervals and the album (to me) sounds very fragmented. Total lack of cohesion. But the songs are good. I can’t help believe that perhaps if Ezrin produced the whole album (sans Take my breath away) it may have done better than it did.
Yeah, in the vid - but he didn't play guitar on the record. I think the credits for this song are to Kane Roberts. Ted Nugent and David Gilmour also played on Count III and Pray.
That smile, while saying one of the most true and tremendous truth ever (we never love, what we know too well) left me mesmerized... Amazing voice really!
I did not think about this song for decades till this morning when just from nowhere the words "like flames" and a came to my mind with a strange and vague feeling of memories of a song. Googled and clicked on play an...BOOM! This is exactly the energy I needed for today!
This song will always be one of my favorites. What a voice! Been watching videos of concerts from a couple years ago and her voice is still amazing after 30+ years.
Berlin = 1 of the best bands ever. since "discovering" them at age 12, had to get ALL their albums, and still have em...on vinyl, cuz i'm a weirdo and preferred it, cuz easier to lift the needle instead of rw/ff a cassette. Terri Nun is one of THE hottest, most powerful vocalists in the biz...AND she's still GORGEOUS!!! Thx to my ex keeping the phonograph MY dad gave us, can't listen to my vinyl anymore. :'( oh well, Thk GOD for youtube and all you wonderful uploaders!!! peace :)
