Another adventure for the books! Went out with my group of friends to search for WWII relics in the Berlin area. If you are a WW2 enthusiast, you're in for a treat. We found so many interesting relics, I'm sure you'll be amazed. On top of that we found the remains of a fallen German soldier which was reported to the local authorities. The landser's Dog Tag was there too, so he is no longer missing in action anymore. Meanwhile this fallen soldier has been collected and will receive a proper burial at a German military cemetery.
Because we found so many great things and was such a blast being in the woods with these guys, it became a long video for you to enjoy.
If you like to see more, please consider becoming a Patron! I'm sure you'll enjoy the extra footage and maybe even receive an original battlefield relic:

FAQ:
-Do you report things found to the authorities?
Yes, all nasty things found like UXO's and finds that could be important from an archaeology perspective are reported to the local authorities.
-Do you sell finds?
I am a collector myself so I hardly sell relics. But if I do then I'll post it on the social media pages or check out my Patron's website. I share finds with my Patrons (check the Patreon website for more details).
-How do you gain permission for metal detecting?
Check out local laws regarding metal detecting and get permission from the landowner. Or hook up with a local metal detecting club in the area you would like to detect and get your information from them. (I stopped responding to questions like this all together, I'm Iron Mike not Google Mike..)
-Can I come with you?
No.
-Do you love me?
Yes I do!
-Will you marry me?
No, lets just be friends.
-I want to see more!
Go check out the social media pages, or consider becoming a Patron! Patrons have access to much more, special videos, behind the scenes footage and WW2 goodie boxes containing relics me and my friends found over the years.
-What metal detector do you use?
The Garrett Ace Apex or the Garrett AT Max.
-Camera?
Go Pro 7, Go Pro 10 and a Sony handy cam
-Favorite find?
Deep Digger Dan's RU-vid channel.
-What is on your bucket list?
Hitler's lost gold or the missing Nazi gold train everybody is searching for. But until then I am happy with whatever pops up, I even enjoy finding landmines... :-s

@@maxmadmax231he was probably a kid. Yes, Nazis were bad, but leading up to the war 1/3 of wehrmacht soldiers were conscripts, they didn't have a choice. If you were of military age in Germany at that time you either would have been brainwashed by the propaganda and convinced to volunteer or would have been conscripted. It's pretty ignorant to criticize this person and call them a "dog" when you have no idea what their situation was.

To me it is more rewarding that a soldier has been found and he gets to go home to his family if any are alive and even if not he can be at rest with other Brave men of his Country, always follow up with these Brave men you find , find the name find his unit find a picture if possible it doesn't matter anymore from what country they come from , Celebrate them , Honour them and let them show us the futility and wastefulness of our most valuable possession. LIFE.

That doesn’t look like an M1 carbine but more like a SVT 40. Many German soldiers would pick up and keep the SVT40 and use it. The SVT40 is a 7.62x54R cartridge.

I follow a few Russian detector channels, they find remains regularly. Stalingrad region. I think it’s called Volgograd now. A lot of times the German soldiers remains have the ID tag with it. They have stated that the German authorities are not interested in getting remains back. They do however take the information from the ID tag to change from M.I.A to K.I.A. From what they report German authorities make no attempt to contact the family to let them know their loved one was found. Remains are brought to Sologubovka cemetery for proper burial. Some group’s in Russia do make attempts to contact the families to let them know. This group also tries to salvage the Russian ID tubes with the paper inside with their information. They do amazing work.

Toothbrush/razor - what was the owner thinking the last time he was brushing/shaving?

I just read that this regiment was part of the 8. Ss kav division and that it was annihilated 1945 at Budapest. So this man was probably no soldier of this unit anymore. German dog tags show only the unit in which the soldier started his military career, not in which he actually served.

Based on the abbreviations on the tag: 8/L.. ART. FRS. ABT. 23: 8th Instructional artillery radio direction finding department 23. The German abbreviations being: L= Lehr ART=Artillerie F.P.S.=Funk-Peilstelle ABT=Abteilung He's not SS. SS didn't have this kind of unit. Most likely, he's either an experienced soldier, previously wounded and brought back to Berlin for teaching duty... or more probably, some kid who was fresh out of training as an artillery spotter. The SS mark is wrong though. SS units were marked with the dual sieg runes, not the regular "SS" like you found. HOWEVER, if a soldier in an artillery unit was attached to an SS unit, then yeah, he'd have that marked. Since the SS themselves didn't have RDF (radio direction finding) soldiers of their own, it makes sense he'd have the simple "SS" marked, to denote he was attached to that unit.
