Berlin as an international city has some awesome third wave coffee places, outside of these shops however, the situation in Germany is bleak. While portafilters, grinders and even fully automated coffee mashines are considered status symbols for many German households, one would assume people also cared for cofee quality - but that's not the case. Owners of 5000€+ coffee gear will typically will - without any shame - brag about how thrifty they are when it comes to buying beans. Someone on the other hand who ejoys hand filtered single origin specialty coffee is ridiculed.
