Four days in Berlin with my boyfriend and parents. If you are planning on going to Berlin here are a few recommendations you have to try out. We went to some delicious food spots and did a lot of shopping. Enjoy!
i also wouldnt call myself a typical tourist, i prefer just walking around picking 1-3 spots i want to visit, cute cafes or even restaurants, shops i need to see and walking and randomly exploring things i wouldn’t have seen as a tourist who has sightseeing tours
One of the places you visited, KaDeWe, is what the Germans call a "Kaufhaus" and what we in the US would call a "department store". A department store differs from a mall in that at a mall, the shops are independently owned even though organized under one roof, whereas a department store is a single business entity, though with many different "departments." Think Macy's or Saks. KaDeWe = Kaufhaus des Westens = "Department store of the West." KaDeWe is a high-end (luxury) department store comparable to Harrods in London. The name dates from the time when there was a "West" Berlin separated from the communist East.
