Some leisurely deck time on the liner “Ocean Monarch” with a game of ring toss underway passing time on route to Bermuda.
In Hamilton, we enjoy the activity seen from the veranda of the Argyle Guest House, overlooking the corner of Victoria Park on the corner of Cedar Avenue and Victoria Street. The guest house was located at the Southeast corner and today is the site of “Carib Cash” a Caribbean financial services company.
A look at the wooden porch, with its sign, and the Leopards Club building across the street. This building still stands today with its wooden veranda missing its roof and looking a little sad.
A walk over to the Bermudiana Hotel pool and gardens, umbrellas are up and its time for a tea stop.
A look at the Harbor from Barr’s Bay and the Hotel through the cedars from Pitts Bay Road - How long would those coconuts last today!
We switch to very early color, the view of cedar forests from the train and the view from Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. So much undeveloped land…
Train sighting at a road crossing (where/what road?).
A stop at the Castle Harbour Hotel, a look at the pool and the view.
Back in Hamilton, a glimpse of the horse and carriage followed with more activity on Cedar Avenue including a garbage truck passing on route to the dump.
On Front Street the Queen of Bermuda is docking with the assistance of the tender “Castle Harbour” and the carriages are lined up ready to take their fares to the hotels.
We visit St. Georges next (I don’t think that welcome sign exists anymore) and the view from the St. George Hotel front entrance. A walk on Featherbed Alley and some of the lovely gardens of the historic town.
Returning to Hamilton by train, we see an undeveloped Jennings Land from the Flatt’s Inlet Trestle.
A visit to the Langton Hotel is next with a walk along the drive and the view South over Hamilton. The Hamilton Hotel is clearly seen and the cedar forest is amazing and thick.
This site is now a condominium development, “Mount Langton”.
Back at the Argyle Guest House, a quick look outside shows both Victoria Street and the South block of Cedar Avenue.
A glass bottom boat rows out in the Sea Gardens ends with another look at Victoria Street and the large tree that is covered in vine.
This film is in Black & White and very early Color.
