The Black community needs more Thelma's.
@kel2580
@kel2580 5 лет назад
Yes we do! I HATE thuggish Black women with that stupid speech they use to communicate? Black women can do so much better than trying to be so fucking hard and downing Black men all the fucking time. Look at yourselves, is what I would tell them to do! Thelma was feminine, soft, sweet, wonderful, funny (just look at the "Mad dog" scene), and I loved her sweet sexiness! What a woman to spend my life with!

Always a fan of GOOD TIMES, still am. (born almost 1990) my older sisters born early 70s, and late seventies, we all still watch. peace. #lovegoodtimes

I have always loved Bernadette. She is gorgeous and a lovely woman! She always had a positive spirit. She is so beautiful. We should be wearing her on a tshirt, instead of these little black girls walking around with Marilyn Monroe on tshirts. No shade to Marilyn Monroe, but we have plenty of black women in our community that we can look up to and aspire to be like and they go unnoticed!

Good Times was a hit show in the 1980s as well. By 1983 I was only 5yo. And for the next 5 yrs, Good Times, Sanford and Son, and The Jeffersons we're big syndication hits. We all as Native Hebrews have went thru that jealousy and envy from our enemies. Bernadette. I grew up in Brooklyn as well. I went to Our Lady Of Lourdes Church where my cousin was a priest and then St.Brigid's. Academy.I even studied dance at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music. I wonder if you had. I just wanted you to know that not every European family was that way.Sometimes I think it was the uneducated parents only who acted that way. Anyway I will share my own experience. There was a black family who lived down the street who's little girl was my friend. Well one day I had dinner at her house so when I went home my grandmother said "Let's get ready for dinner ".I said that I wasn't hungry and informed her that I had catfish for dinner at my friends house. "Catfish" she said somewhat alarmed. (I'm guessing she did not know what people from where they came from ate ),so off she took me to their house to inquire about the dinner. Well all went well. Awhile after that the little girl gave me a doll. She had brown skin. I was around 6 so we called it a dolly . Well back then we were not allowed to cross the street without a grownup so as someone watched , I crossed but was instructed never to stop for any reason. I dropped my doll and could not stop to pick her up. The worse thing happened . A car ran over her and I ran home screaming that she was dead (smile). My sainted grandmother sewed her leg back on ,replaced her missing eye with a button and with me she stayed in a place of honor as my favorite doll. I want black people who may be reading this to know that my people and many others who were from New England and Europe were abolitionists . Not all stories are sad like Bernadette's. One last sad thing however. The first time I ever heard the "N" word I was in the South where I lived for a while with my mother and her second husband. When I got a little older and understood what the word really meant I knew why we had the Civil War- the price of ignorance.

I am white. Grew up watching "Julia" and "Room 222", "That Girl" and then on to "The Jeffersons" and "Good Times", also watched "One Day at a Time", "The Waltons", "Cagney and Lacey". It's about relationships. Sure, some were comedic, some dramatic, but showing the range of emotions and the relationship dynamic that ANYONE can relate to, just made them memorable. Whether they were white or black didn't matter. (had a crush on Lloyd Haines from 222) What mattered was the relationships rang true to me and I was invested in them.

Ester Rolle was a very respectable woman...at an intimate NAACP after party she saw me having fun/flirting amongst the starlets...while finishing looking at her, she could be heard referring to me as a "Jr. Flip."😊 That is ole' school ya'll. Someone said Ms. Stanis was at a table during the "2015 Selma to Montgomery March" ceremony...my only regret during those days was not seeing her in person. ;) Yes, it was certainly novel seeing her in that role each week...no wonder, she was the first...Wow.

They had to help the writers Fup the English language is what she meant to say. But, yes, it worked / fit for that show. Top two favorite sitcoms ever, All in the Family and Good Times.

I just love her. Beautiful person inside and out. Watching Good Times, I could never understand how and why the JJ character was always calling Thelma ugly and making fun of her looks. I know it was scripted but even as a kid I found it unusual because she was always so beautiful.

This lady is still a straight beauty. Its a shame she didn’t get more roles after good times ended. In my opinion she had everything needed to be a mega star. But I guess her dignity, self respect and pride wasn’t a fit for holly wood. She was class personified and remains a class act. She truly represents the type of woman I always wanted.
