Bernice's talk show from Designing Women. "Bernice, I don't know exactly what your problem is. . ." Alice Ghostley, Jean Smart, Dixie Carter, Meshach Taylor
Designing Women and the Golden Girls, were by far the greatest shows featuring women in any era of television! I’m so glad I was able to see and appreciate both sitcoms when they aired for the first time! I miss these days so much....
Yes! Two *amazing* and *hilarious* sitcoms which, in my eyes, were ahead of the times!! So fantastic!! (We _desperately_ need some female ensemble lead sitcoms out there today! It’s been **far** too long!)
Watch Bernice’s face as Julia starts in on her during the commercial break. There are at least two places where Alice Ghostley broke character and started laughing 1) when Julia suggested that her arterial flow had stopped entirely and 2) when she threatened to throw Bernice across the studio. You can clearly see and hear Alice lose it in both places. Priceless.
"Bernice...i don't know exactly what your problem is...." Dixie was incredible in this role. The way you can hear Julia's fury in her voice...she's still speaking softly and slowly. 😂😂 Alice was always great as Bernice as well.
Ohh I always loved Bernice, my other fave scene is when she wears the Christmas tree skirt as an actual skirt....man she is funny!! She was also in the Grease musical movie!
If Dixie Carter was the madam of the house. I would be there so much the mailman would deliver my mail there. I mean that in the most respectful way. I love that woman. Hal Holbrook was a lucky man and he knew it. RIP both of them.
The first time I saw Alice Ghostly was on Good Times and she stole every scene she was in! She was great as a walk on, supporting, lead...wherever you put her!
hehehe she was hanging her head out of the window shouting at a working girl 'work it girl. how would you like to strut your stuff on access televison.' i almost ran into a tree.
Great writing! Also, the word "titillate" is a great callback to previous season episodes, where the word was used, usually to the dislike/discomfort of the women.
"Hello and welcome to senior round up, I'm Bernice Clifton your host for the week tonight were talking about a problem that preys on the mind of every senior citizen #SexForSell "
This clip ends right before it, but the best part of the episode is when Mary Jo arrives & uses the show to publicize her being dumped by Donald & to let viewers know that they are only setting themselves up for heartbreak if they go out with him. The episode contains one of Annie's best performances, especially when she finds out from the women in Donald's office that she is not the only one strung along by him. If people have to start a support group to get over being burned by you, you are trash.
This show takes me to an overwhelming nostalgic state of mind. I used to watch designing women back in the 90's when i was back home in Saudi Arabia. Gosh time flies
these women, plus that lucky Anthony, haha, they R so funny n the looks on their faces is priceless n benice n Charlene both can't hold back some laughs themselves, especially bernice when Julia was askn what was goin on wit her, hahaha, love this show, the entire cast was perfect together!! thnx !!
This is hilarious, almost too funny! If that show were real life and I worked with them, I would be laughing so much I wouldn't get much work done.I wish the entire episode were available, some are hard to find online.
Guests, on today's show, we're going to talk about decorators who have spent their spare times as call girls! God, I sound like former daytime talk show host Sally Jessy Raphael! #LOL
@@OCRATHLETE They actually did copy the concept in terms of the character’s personalities. It’s clear as day. Bernice was basically Sophia, Julia was Dorothy, Suzanne was Blanche, and Charlene was Rose. Mary Jo was the only one who was sort of unique.
