The Bernina Express was such a highlight of our Epic European Adventure, we started the Day in Zurich Switzerland so if you want to jump directly to the Bernina Express it starts at 06:15
Hello, Thank you for this lovely video. I just have a question, from Milan my husband and I have to take a train to Tirano THEN Bernina Express to Chur? we will be going to Zurich. my question is can we do it all in 1 day? thank you so much!
I did it in one day in the other direction from Zurich to Milan, but you will need to check the timetable to see if all the trains line up for your journey.
When I was there they were doing work on the line so it was closed and needed to get a replacement bus and a train. But there should be a direct train now from Tirano to Milan.
Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, are the train with heart-shaped chocolates included in the first class ticket, only on the Bernina Express or do they have to be purchased separately? It's just that we want one of those souvenirs when we make our trip. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
We are doing the same route this August Zurich to Venice via Milan. You mentioned the train from Tirano to Milan is not working. Just worried about our travel going to Venice. Do you know when the train going to be available to Milan?
There is the RhB bus from Tirano RhB to Lugano which is included in the Swiss Pass, Interail pass, Eurail pass and similar. You only have to pay for the seat reservation which is mandatory. In any case, since 10 August the famous Gotthard Base tunnel has been closed to traffic due to the derailment of a freight train. Trains run on the old panoramic line starting from or arriving in Zurich one hour earlier or one hour later. With the Eurocity from Venice Santa Lucia to Zurich, the change is expected in Chiasso. No change at the moment in the opposite direction. It is advisable not to buy bargain tickets for Frecciarossa trains on the Trenitalia website since, in the event of an immediate loss of the connection at the railway station called Milano Centrale, you will not get a refund. Purchase all tickets, including tickets for trains from Milan Central Station to Venice Santa Lucia, via the Swiss Federal Railways website. Even with a ticket from Tirano RFI to Milano Centrale, if you miss your connection at this railway station, you will not get any refund as they are now considered two separate contracts. Years ago, however, the Italian state railways issued a single ticket, for example from Tirano FS to Venice Santa Lucia with the "Rapido" supplement from Milan to Venice included, or sold separately. Furthermore, depending on the tariff kilometric distance, the FS tickets had a validity, starting from the day of issue, which ranged from a minimum of one day to a maximum of 6 days. Thanks to the so-called privatization and the tickets at market price, all this is now only a good memory
None of the seats on my train had opening windows. Only the windows on the doors opened. I do believe that regional trains that share the same track has opening windows.
Hi were you first class, was it hot on board, hopefully you can open windows everywhere on board, were the toilets press button or manual latch. Thanks I hope to go
Yes, we were in first class. You could not open the windows because they were panoramic that curved into the roof except for on the doors at each end of the carriage. I don’t remember what the toilet looked like sorry.
Nice video. Very informative. Did you have to do seat reservation for you and the kids? If so, what website did you reserve it? Haning trouble finding it. Thanks.
I used my interrail ticket so don’t know the actual cost. Best to check their website as I would imagine it would be different depending on time of year.
