Dad made us walk across the flooded road near Hay, when we were kids! He was towing caravan in Holden Commodore, and 6 berth caravan! We weren't too upset, because we didn't think about snakes or spiders that were in the water! Could have been 1975?
What a ripper mate. Excellent! I had to laugh when you quoted the rain in points and inches lol. Yep the question was asked lol. Old farmers dont change all that much lol
Excellent vid, Mick, Interesting the floods down there, different to the types of flooding we have here in the eastern side of the Great Divide, Rapid rising floods, I was born Shepparton VIC, before I was born, my dad took photos of the 1956 flood, Sadly a lot of his movies was lost, Only a little of his travels from Burnie ,Tas, to Bundaberg, Emerald, Springsure Qld , was saved after his death, Beautiful area down there , floods will make the country thrive, Enjoyed the vid Cheers Bevan from Sapphire Central Queensland 🤠🦘🇦🇺
You covered home territory well & a practical & accurate observation of the oncoming floods we're experiencing. Hopefully minimal damage to property & safety for residents. Definitely worth a visit just for a look
Spent a few days at Martins Bend back in 1990, plenty of Possums , of course 5RM Berri was our station when living at Waikerie 1960's , the late Rocky Page (Dean Pagewood) had a great Country Music program on 5RM back then.
@@justcruisinwithmicksally837 Sure do, Dad was running the Shell Service Station at Barmera for around 8 months in 1964 while waiting for crops to come on at our fruit block at Sunlands, just West of Waikerie.
Good piece mate. We had to get to a wedding in Dunkeld from Canberra on Oct 13th. Got within about 128 Km before being turned back before Ararat - road torn up and flood-felled trees. Spent about four hours in Castlemaine before and after the sub-station went under, finding a way out. The round about way was eventually 865Km and 13 hours. Got to Dunkeld at at around 04:30 on the day of the wedding. The final person, a groomsman, got to Dunkeld 30 minutes before the wedding at 16:30. As many of us are Army types, we sent out forward patrols to scout crossings - that sounds a bit cheesy but it worked. We skipped four frothing crossings and took two which were OK. One of our party was able to get through Castlemaine early on, providing directions, but the river came right up, flooded most roads and bombed the sub-station. What a trip! Getting back to the highway a few days later was also a monster trip.
G'day Mick & Sally. Just one week ago I assisted a great friend with B Double Adelaide to Albury...Numerous detours from flooding and bitumen roads rapidly deteriorating. Going to be a huge expense for federal Government with repairs. But, is so many river and creeks having a refreshing flush and arid grounds enjoying a deep drink. Berri & Riverland is a must visit location. And your video /commentary can be a boost to tourism of them areas...Top job mate. Thanks for sharing once again...Cheers
Thanks Dennis, water damage to roads is occurring everywhere at the moment, not much we can do about it but wait for the repair bills. Yes all creeks and river will be the winners from all of the water.
Hi Guys great vlog it looks like you had a great crowd and big vans I only have a little teardrop camper but do belong to a group call S/A teardrops keep up the great vlogs cheers Alan from Adelaide
I've been following this event through channels like yours as I did some work and stayed in Echuca for a while. The works I worked at got flooded as it's right at the edge of the Murray, great coverage their Mike.
Hi Mick, have I missed a video regarding the new back on the Ute? Love your work, I drove wide loads for 8 years, and pulled caravans for 40 years, so particularly like your van and truck vids which simply explain it. I have horror stories of my years on the road.
I will be doing a video on the new canopy soon. I have only just finished fitting out the interior as it has been a spare time job. The horror stories are what makes driving the most dangerous job in Australia and other counties around the world.
Good vid Mick. Must be great catching up with fellow caravaners and I'm sure you provided some great info in your presentation considering you're both a triple road train operator and a caravaner. Good drills mate.
Great video, I was planning a trip to Berri area and haven’t been before so your vid was very helpful. Looks a very nice town. There is certainly a massive volume of water heading that way and it’s certainly going to cause some issues when it gets there. I was amazed there’s so much flooding down there already . Cheers
Wow you’re right mixed , I like the fact that you changed your start it’s nice , and Berri was lovely , all is so clean and tidy. With all the groups that you have for the caravans and all the ways to improve or just survive and keep going you should all be proud it was so inspiring . There were not many women there is it just happen that way as this for me would be something I would be interested in . So I would be in the group discussions and asking loads . 👏👏👏👏👏❤️🐾👍
@@justcruisinwithmicksally837 it was just in one of the talks about converting van to off grid there were hardly any women in the people watching , this interests me greatly especially as it’s good for finance and environment. ❤️👏🐾
G’day Mick and Sally, Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. We are heading down to SA from Qld in February to spend four months exploring your great state, before heading to the NT. Do you have a transcript of the talk you presented to the club? Cheers, Wardy
I’ve got a couple of questions have you ever stayed in any Victorian Caravan Parks and do you ever travel with friends and lastly you make it look like so easy with the drone. 👍👍
We have been caravaning for many years now and there are not too many places that we haven't been to. Before a couple of years ago, we were mad photographers and never filmed too many movies so there was no RU-vid being created back then. Yes we have been to many great Victorian Parks over the years, we are heading to Sale next April for an event over there. We used to travel weekenders and some interstate trips with a good couple years ago but he passed away seven years ago so since then it has always mostly been just Sally and I. Traveling with someone else is great although we found that we wanted to stop to smell the roses more than others did. There is nothing hard to in flying a drone except knowing where it is all of the time. Sun glare is the biggest issue that I find annoying.
Rain was once measured in points and inches, one hundred points equal an inch of rain. When we moved over to metric measurements, we lost the old point system. I should get with the new times and measure with millimeters but some things are hard to change over to. NT was a no show, correct.
Great video mate. we are booked in for the March long weekend, first time staying there have used the boat ramp once as well. seen its higher now as well, saw that Lake Bonney caravan park is also now closed. as well as several others :( ( we are booked in there for Aust day long weekend in January). have you been to Lake Albert Caravan Park recently ?
@@justcruisinwithmicksally837 it looks like a really nice spot, only done day trips there so looking fwd to it, I had not been there in about 30 odd years back when my parents had a caravan so looking fwd getting back there to see whats changed.
The club has been formed by one lady who had the idea. It is for those people who own a "Traveller Caravan". It is an annual get together for the owners, it doesn't include any other planned trips throughout the year.
@@dryroo just saw this as I was interested in the background more. www.bom.gov.au/climate/cdo/about/rain-measure.shtml Rainfall has traditionally been measured to the nearest 0.2mm (1 point, or 1/100th of an inch prior to 1970), although in recent years some observations are being reported to 0.1mm. Any moisture less than this is recorded as a trace.
Wow. There you go. I havent ever investigated it. I know that BOM did funny yhings with converting rainfall charts, I picked this up well over 10 years ago but this one is really astounding. I cant find quickly a Metraverter booklet that I got hold of and still use. (The two pics below show when this book Willowie, Plains of Contrast was published in 1975 with the claim that the data was from BOM. 1 inch was 25mm as I said.) On the net 25 mm is 70 points! Sadly I can not post a pic of the page
