Episode 458. So, this bottle is nearly always on the shelf. Not critically the best, but a very affordable, full sherry dram. I was worried when I saw the new label, but it might even be a bit better. Wild. #sherry #scotch #whiskyneighbour

I like the idea of you doing a series on bottles that are always on your shelf!

I hope to get to it. I kind of made one many years ago, but it is time to revisit.

There is definitely something to be said for those kinds of bottles that aren't so amazing you feel guilty drinking, but still good enough that you can enjoy a few pours. Definitely would be interested in seeing your shelf staple bottles

So glad to have someone review this. Much like others, I had been waiting to hear something on the new bottling. Will probably pick some up from Sierra Springs after this. Cheers 🍻

Happy to help. That said, a few viewers have indicated this has significant sulphur burn. I am not very sensitive to that. For me, it is a deep, dark, sherry. However, if you are sensitive to sulphur, you might want to pass. Cheers!

This is always a must have. There is only a couple other bottles in whisky period that come near this bang for buck beauty

Every time I’m on sierra springs website I pause on this bottle and almost add it to my cart because of the price point…..but never pull the trigger? You have convinced me to pull that trigger ;)

Another person commented that it had heavy Sulphur for them. I could see that. I am not very sensitive to that match stick quality, but it is a heavier , more sherried dram.

Good evening, Jon! Haven't heard of this, nor have I ever seen it here in Ontario that I recall. Sounds like an easy go to, for those days when you just want a decent whisky. The price is certainly right! Heading out Tuesday, keeping our fingers crossed for good weather on the drive... Have yourself a wonderful week! Cheers 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦

@@WhiskyNeighbour I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your trip! Was wondering how it went. Don't know if I'll be doing too much searching for whisky gems either. We're going to be pretty busy I think! 😉

Great info on the new bottling. If this economic downturn materializes, these economy minded blends are going to be a bigger part of the day to day market. Cheers.

I agree. Whisky has spiked in price around here, and this is a little burnt, but surprisingly good for the low price! Cheers!

Happy New Year from Wales. I recently went through a bottle of the new bottling. It was ok but I tasted a lot of sulpher in mine, like burned matches, not tot my taste but a decent dram.

I think I am not that sensitive to Sulphur. For me, it is just on the edges

The first bottles had a lot more time to oxidise compared with the freshly opened new bottle

I love that whenever I see something I have my eye on, I can pretty much expect you to review it by the weekend. We're pretty close market-wise (I'm just outside Calgary), and you seem to have an uncanny ability to pick up what I'm looking at. I appreciate you, man. I see that Goodridge & Williams anniversary bottle up behind you. What do you think of that? Is it worth the $50ish?
@WhiskyNeighbour

Glad I am able to share a few releases you can find too! G&W Anniversary is good. Sweet with lots of wine, but good.

@Whisky Neighbour I finally picked up the Berry Bros and Rudd, and tried it last night. I'm not as whisk(e)y-acquainted as you are (so my tasting notes are few.and far between), but I quite enjoyed it. If I didn't understand the term "sherry bomb" before, I do now. The nose seems a lot more significant than the pallette, but it's a nice sipper.
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour Год назад
@Adam Logan I would agree the nose is the best part. Glad you enjoyed it too.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Angels Envy on your shelf. I saw you did a sample before but, not a review. I drink it with grilled meals when I don't want to get too buzzed. Great for cooking with as well.

Sierra springs is my go to Alberta shop. I've had a berry bros and Rudd Sherry cask before (old bottling) it was perfect for the price. We don't have a comparison in Ontario for this one good old terrible lcbo. Have you tried their peated cask?

Great price for a Berry Bro dram full of sherry - consider Scallywag 100% sherry by DOuglas Laing . . . Grouse is too weak. . .
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour Год назад
Right, I think that is the difference. This is heavier than Grouse,, and that is what keeps me coming back.
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour Год назад
I will also now look for a good price o. Scallywag!

There is always a subjective and rather objective rating. A malt i love doesnt have to be a high rated malt. Just recently had a full port maturation that has sour and heavy bitter notes in it, i love it, but i can clearly see that a lot of people wont like it. There isnt much sweetness, its sour fruits with oak bitterness
