Matt Mauck Yes, but as the series has progressed its seemed to be more inspired by previous games instead of an outside source, for example three is a mashup of one, two, and some bloodborne. The greatsword in one is a ultra great sword shaped more like Guts blade, whereas in two and three its more like clouds buster blade, there is the farron legion fatigues which resemble guts armor somewhat, but I still think balder does more, since it was inspired by Guts armor
Matt Mauck Yeah I'm quite aware of Miyazaki's inspirations, what I'm saying was that it reminded me of playing the first game and encountering guts builds, I wasn't arguing any points, stating any opinions, just restating a memory. They all have some berserk inspiration but that's only because they are similar to the first and DeS which were heavily inspired by it, so they were indirectly affected by it

You know I've always wondered how Gut's strength would gauge against the Arisen, because isn't the Arisen basically the god of the known world? All life feeds off his will to live.
Here is the thing, Guts is OP as fuck even for a human, (and up until he put on the berserk armour all his strength came from physical training, experience and his will to live.) Put simply it would be a really close fucking fight particularly for a higher level Arisen, but I suspect that the Arisen would win simply because he/she could try again and again until he/she wins, though I figure gut's would be cleaving them in two a few hundred times before then. Think fighting a really skilled invader mixed with Artorias from the first game.
I don't think that's possible, I'm pretty sure the ashen one is one of many who's already failed to link the flames before, and there were lord's of cinder before the current ones, but if told in a certain way your theory could be entirely plausible
