I watched the 90's Berserk anime a long time ago and loved it. Unfortunately, I'm not the type to enjoy reading comic books or manga, so that's where Guts' story ended for me. When I saw that a new Berserk anime was being made, I was so excited, but I think we all know how that turned out. After that disappointment, I realized that I really did want to finish Berserk, so I started to consider actually reading the manga even though I don't enjoy that sort of thing. With the release of the deluxe edition, I finally decided to pull the trigger and give it a shot, so I bought the first volume and let's just say I've already pre-ordered this one after finishing number one in just two sittings. Berserk is truly amazing.
I was worried that it wouldn’t sell well and they would discontinued. Until I ordered it and received it in May, because it was sold out everywhere. Now I’m not worried about it so much. Just getting my books on day of release.
@Bobby Derran Miura himself is confident he will finish it. He says were entering the home stretch and he even wants to do a sci-fi manga after he finishes Berserk
This is probably the only manga I will ever double dip for -- the Deluxe edition is so nice and I can't wait to see the later volumes of Berserk in this format since the art just keeps getting better.
By the way, I prefer the sound effects translated outside the panels like that. It keeps the original artwork unchanged in the panels, which I am all for!
Near Mint Condition for us to get all 40 current volume like this, it will take about 13 volumes with 3 - 4 a years, that’s still a good 3 - 4 years before we even catch up. I doubt that he will even finish the manga by then.
I have all 40 volumes in spanish, they just released volume 40 a couple of months ago here in Mexico. It's a good enough cheap version for reading, but i'm planning on getting this hard covers eventually, i love how they oversized it.
You should check out the smaller volume one and then if you like it go back and check out the deluxe editions. As I said in the first volume video...don't judge it too hard on that first deluxe edition volume. This is the volume when you see what Berserk is all about.
Don't waste your time with the smaller ones, if you're even slightly interested, pull the trigger on the Deluxe Edition. Do it now! No need to come back here and thank me after you've finished reading it, you're welcome.
If what you saw of the deluxe edition volume 1 pleased you, oh boy, Berserk will start blowing your mind with volume 3, and it will only get better. I mean, you already can see the potential in the first three volumes, and volumes 4-6 are awesome to watch, but it doesn't prepare you to what Miura will do a few years later. Volume 13 is the climax, so I guess you'll have to way for the fifth volume of the deluxe edition.
Today I called my local book store to order in berserk berserk deluxe vol 3. Witch is coming out in November the 5th in Australia. Can't wait to get volume three
My first foray into Berserk was with the Golden Age films on Netflix, which I thought were extremely well done, despite finding out later that there were some story lines left out. I had to start reading the series immediately and made a lot of progress on an online copy of the manga. It wasn't until I received Volume 1 of the Deluxe Edition that I was able to truly appreciate the artwork poured into each panel. What especially impresses me is Miura's ability to depict movement and speed with such incredible talent.
They are on board with the doing the whole series like this as long as it keeps selling. And let's be honest. It's Berserk, it's going to keep selling.
Here I am, rebuying all of berserk. Cant wait to see much later in the series, the art was kind of hard to see on the small pages. There is so much happening in the golden age I actually wouldnt mind re-reading it anyway, no other manga can compare.
7:22 That's the correct pronunciation of Berserk, in conformity with the Japanese term ベルセルク (Beruseruku). Most English speakers tend to pronounce it like "Beezerk" and it's awfully contradictory since none of them pronounce Serpico as "Zerpico" or "Zeerpico".
Near Mint Condition I want one piece and bleach like that, that be amazing, especially one piece, it deserves that treatment, I don’t really like small manga volume.
I got volume 1 of berserk deluxe and i am hooked on berserk its just wow!!!! I live it very good and the 3 movies i just finish watching at Netflix they blew me away!!!😲😲😲👍👍
Own the whole manga so its time for me to update them. Now if Dark Horse can get the rights to do the Manga Kingdom and put it in this formmat then shit got real.
@@NearMintCondition I've read it for years it's a great read over the top duels but done beautifully. Another one that would be good for this is Fist of the Northstar.
I’m up to book 6 plan on getting the deluxe volume 3 for the next chapters, my second manga I’m starting, I got a couple demon slayer books but I’m dumping my money into berserk, by far my favorite story and manga
epic. 3-4 a year feels pretty quick even though thats still 10-15 years. do you think there is any chance that speeds up if or when the story gets complete?
I would hope so. Miura being on his last arc gives me hope. If we get four a year We will be caught up in three and a half years with the regular volumes.
This is my first time reading this manga. I’m not too familiar with the characters or story. The only other manga that I have read is Saint Seiya. I am more familiar with Saint Seiya than I am with Berserk. All in all it looks good.
Yes, it’s too bad that Saint Seiya didn’t become as popular here in the United States as it did in Latin America. I enjoyed watching the anime and reading the manga in Spanish. I’m from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, it was popular in Puerto Rico, just like in Mexico and in South America. It’s my favorite manga and anime. I’m enjoying Berserk. It’s a good manga.
@@NearMintCondition eres peruano? Hablas el inglés con un acento gringo medio neoyorquino que ni se te nota. Pero se me hacía raro que tuvieras la piel color puerta como yo jajajaja, quizás soy el único otro peruano que te ve
Berserk lives in black and white. The colored pages are kind of out of place, so its not to bad to miss them. But I do hope they have the posters in the future volumes.
So, If my math is correct and if they do 3 volumes each deluxe vol, We should be caught up with the series in Deluxe Vol 13. I'm hoping Dark Horse prints more than 3 volumes a year, cause if not, We'd be waiting roughly 5-6 years for the deluxe prints to be caught up with the normal printing of the berserk books. Yet, I think they are possibly doing this on purpose seeing as how Kentaro is getting old and goes on hiatus quite a bit. Yet good news is, VOL 40 Is making it's way state side coming this October. So, there is that.
Volume 1 was great, but there were some weird typos on a few of the pages. That's just not acceptable for the price they're charging. Especially with the continued lack of color panels. Any word on whether volume 2 has similar errors or if Darkhorse got their act together for the second volume?
@@NearMintCondition It's a huge volume, so I can't recall all the errors off the top of my head, but I know there were at least three separate mistakes in Volume I. And I don't mean typos or lighter inks. These were blatant and very weird errors that are not present in the original release. The one that stands out most in my mind occurs in the panel where Guts recalls Vagras as he reaches out to him and cries "Please...Avenge Me!" (pg 312). You'll notice that superimposed across the palm of Vagras hand the text reads some strange gibberish: "Pg 88" followed by "88.2 FX" and "88.3 FX." The mistake is not present in the original release of Berserk. I don't mind paying for the series twice if it means higher quality paper and binding and a bigger format, but why are there added mistakes that didn't even exist in the original? I mean, if our argument is that they reused an old print of the manga and thus did not include the color frames or address the inking issues, then why are there also typos present in the deluxe release that were not in the first printing? Honestly, a very strange situation.
I forgot to mention that 70 $ is nothing when you are talking about omnibus today. Marvel and dc books are in the 100 - 250 $ for their omnibus. Honestly. This one is so popular that I bet you it would have sold out in color just as fast. I have a feeling that color berserk will be a thing eventually, but not before it ends and for an anniversary. One piece, Naruto and bleach are in color in Japan and they look great.
@@NearMintCondition Well if a knife works for you that's cool. Me ill just stick to using my hands all the way through. Btw what are you doing with your single Berserk volumes now? Selling them?
Is there any explanation as to why IST still hasn't made this available after nearly a week after it's release? This happened with Volume 1 as well, I was checking the page several times a day, until Walmart got copies in for about the same price about a month after release and I ordered from there.
They literally sold out of volume 1 in 35 minutes and then volume 2 in less than an hour. Dark Horse is keeping these in print, but it takes them a bit to reprint the books.
Uncanny Omar, is this the only manga that's released in this format? I would kill to see Dragon Ball and DBZ like this one day (although, I do enjoy the Viz Big 3-in-1)
Sadly, not very many. There are Hardcovers like Battle Angel Alita, Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Vinland Saga, but none that are this nice. This is a thing of beauty.
Near Mint Condition theres also mobile suit gundam the origin and jojos bizzare adventure, both great hc but this is just the bar for kind of gourmet manga xd
Hello. Sorry my English is so bad so I Didn t understand what you mean. The edition that includes colour pages is the spanish one? I can't find any review on the internet. Thanks
Your English is just fine. When I did an overview of the first volume people in the comments were stating that the Spanish Hardcover Edition had the color pages. I hope that helps.
@@NearMintCondition hello I mean... the pages inside the book ( as the first two pages of the chapter 1 ) .... or are they just in the japanese edition? Thanks mate
It's a tough question. I was watching and reading weird shit at 9 years old, but I have 9 year old daughter that I wouldn't let read this for years. There are some messed up things that happen in the book. Like V said, really depends on how you raise your kids.
@@NearMintCondition I agree. Depends on the personality they have. Some kids can separate the stories from reality and it's not a big deal. Follow up question, would you let your daughters read something like Invincible? What exactly would you say crosses the line in your opinion?
I have often thought about this question and was going to make an episode. Like some friends of mine get on me about watching Alien and Aliens with my nine year old. But she loves that stuff. My seven year does not, at all. So you are right about the difference in the personality. My nine year old has read Ultimate Spider-man, Klaus, Peanuts and when she turns 10 she is going to read my IDW Transformers and Turtles and honestly, i don't see an issue with Invincible. It's a little more violent than say Ultimate Spidey, but it's not bad. I think what crosses the line for me as a parent is the Guts back story with Gambino and of course the Eclipse. That was traumatizing for me to watch in 1998 when I was 20. I hope that explains more into my way of thinking.
@@NearMintCondition oh I totally get you. My personal take is that even children can read Berserk as long as they have been eased into mature storytelling. Just like you wouldn't have someone new to the medium reading Avengers by Hickman I dont think it's okay to show graphic content to people (young or old) that are not used to it. If a 9 year old loves scary movies and blood and stuff I'd be a lot more comfortable showing them something like berserk than I would to a kid that only likes cartoons and stuff.
My copy has pages 609-624 reprinted in between pages 616 and 617. Is this an anomaly or are others like this? No missing pages just extra so only makes for some confusion while reading.
Guts is a good dude.. SPOILER ALERT He didn't meant to do that.. it was dark, when he realize, he hold his hand.. and was the first time he was very sad for killing someone
I see your point, but I get the three mixed up, I want to say in the original anime my boy Guts feels no remorse. Perhaps that's also because he has no time.
It really depends on the kid right. I was sneaking in heavy metal magazines at the age of 10 and watching Friday the 13th and Nightmare on elmstreet at 11. I have a 10 year old daughter and heck no I wouldn't let her read Berserk. :) But hey every parent is different.
Right now barnes n nobles have on all mangas...buy 2 and get a 3rd FREE...I straight up bought all 3 editions in one go and only paid for 2 of them...you'll probably get more off if you're a member of barnes n nobles 👍
"absolute edition" complete story in one volume, now that would too large to be rightfully called a book. probably as heavy as the dragon slayer itself.
