I prefer Iwanaga, to me he's the better Guts, he has a deeper voice and the way he yells is better. Canna is good, no denying that but as Guts Iwanaga is better.
Iwagana's voice feels... Flat?, don't know how to explain it. His voice fits better with Guts' appearance and he's really good portraying Guts' rage. But he fails at everything else Canna is a lot more versatile and makes Guts feel more human imo, he can do both the angry part and human side of Guts very well I'm going with Canna on this one
I mean the flatnes of Iwanaga kinda suits Blackswordsman Guts doesn't it? After seeing all his friends get murdered and focusing only on revenge I'd assume you'd lose almost all your emotions after that except for hate and rage
@@Lo-tf6qthate and rage aren’t flat tho. They are emotions and very powerful ones at that. Just as powerful as love and happiness. Also in the manga Guts is never portrayed as flat despite his messed up life
I get that people prefer iwagana's voice for being deeper but to me it sounds like he's forcing it too much and I prefer Canna's raw emotion and deliverance much more
Iwanga can't do the lighter parts of Guts without always having to sound gruff. Both Canna and Diraison can do both (more so Diraison) with much superior dynamism.
@Dusan Vujovic well for me, a European speaking Japanese kind of breaks immersion for me. Even so, no other English voice actor could out-class Diraison
@Moyai Drip not really. Iwanaga is more flat. Diraison has more range, and the first episode of the 1997 anime proves that Diraison is great as Black Swordsman Guts.
After finishing in reading the manga version of Falcon of The Millenium Empire arc in Berserk manga. Looking back on the 97 for Canna prefer him on the role of younger Guts while 2011-13 & 16-17 Iwanaga prefer him on the role for 3 years to current Guts.
Yo me quedo con la de Canna, debido a que el tono rasposo que le da a Guts suena más natural, mientras que a Iwanaga , se le nota que está intentando forzar ese tono, aunque a la hora de gritar a veces lo hace mejor que Canna.
Once men get really old their voices usually go higher in pitch. But that’s like really really old. Most of your life your voice tends to stay the same. That being said tho, Guts doesn’t age much from golden age up to Fantasia. So he would still sound the same. Canna sounds great for Guts at any mature age
In my opinion Canna was way better at yelling, cuz when I saw guts screaming in the manga, the way Canna screamed was exactly how I envisioned it. Like how Broly screamed in the 2018/19 Broly movie, like kinda raspy. But Hirokai had a way better talking voice for Guts, super dark and quiet. I like both of them a lot honestly.
I really like canna's voice as guts. There's just something about it i like so much, the way he talks normally, angry and when he scream its oddly fitting.
Canna's an amazing VA, but he was just very wrong for Guts. He would've been great as Griffith, though, IMO (and ironically, perhaps, Griffith's original VA would've made a better Guts).
