Hello Pushpa, RIP are those positions/ patterns which are exactly opposite to the spastic patterns and which result in prolonged elongation of spindles of spastic muscles thereby making them insensitive to stretch and so helping in reducing the hypertonicity/ spasticity. At the same time RIP also results in shortening of the antagonist/ weaker pattern making their spindle shorten and sensitive to stretch. Therefore we say that RIP helps in the shunting of tone from the spastic group of muscle to their antagonist pattern. Feel free to discuss futher incase there are any more doubts about it. ...
