Excerpt from the video: "Bertrand Russell - Interview ("Face to Face", 1959)". In full length here: • Bertrand Russell - Int...
In 1959, Bertrand Russell, the Nobel Prize-winning philosopher, mathematician and peace activist was just short of his 87th birthday, when he gave wide-ranging interviews to the BBC and the CBC.
In this capture Russell giving life lessons - lessons about critical thinking, love and tolerance - to a generation living 1,000 years in the future. Interviewer: John Freeman.
Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) was a British philosopher, logician, mathematician, historian, and social critic. At various points in his life he considered himself a liberal, a socialist, and a pacifist, but he also admitted that he had never been any of these in any profound sense. He was born in Monmouthshire, into one of the most prominent aristocratic families in Britain.

He was a real intellectual. Even after his death, he's still able to affect so many people with his ideas.

Hate and love are 2 sides of the same coin . If you do not hate wicked men and their wicked deeds, you are not a loving person.

"Remember Hate is always foolish, and love is always wise" - The Doctor (Doctor Who) Now I know Where he got that quote from. I love Moffat. I wish I could have met Russel. He must have been one of the Doctor's future regenerations. He even looks like Cushing from the Movie in the 60s! 😂

Love is desire. Unwise Hatred is meaningful not foolish like the word nice does means. These are the facts

@@andzzz2 I always wonder about the origin of things. Perhaps this is how I discovered etymology

@@JSUjr98 I too am fascinated by the origin of things, etymology especially. I like it because it shows a chain of thought and interesting changes and connections between concepts. It is not always relevant for abstract terms applied to philosophy, because we are narrowing the definitions to enable exploring thought pattterns. What I meant to ask, was why do you find 'love' in this sense, i.e. care and empathy for your fellow human being, unwise? Similarly, hatred here means impulsive selfishness. Do you think that is wise? I am sorry, maybe you were making a point about etymology. Even then the PIE cognates for love and hate are defined in wiktionary as ' love, care, desire' and ' strong emotion'...
@JSUjr98

@@andzzz2 desire is the morpheme I have a dislike for. Desire is love then I don’t want it. The Definition of Words shouldn’t change they should stay defined as they are
@andzzz2
@andzzz2 Год назад
@@JSUjr98 Meanings change all the time and allow us to explore new and beautiful ideas and share them with others. 'Christ' is related to both 'ghee' and 'grime', 'God' is derived from a verb meaning 'to pour'. Are we not richer for these changes?
