Millions of Texans are still without power after Beryl, which entered south of Houston as a Category 1 storm, devastated parts of the coast and flooded homes in the region. CBS News' Janet Shamlian reports.

If you have a tub, block off the overflo hole and fill it all the way. Heat will transfer into the tub water and cool the room down about 5° . Stand in the water and use a saucepan to pour cold water over self, kids, pets, or anyone needing a cool down.

Notice @0:43 that the Live Oak Trees are all fine, it's other species of oaks and pine trees that split and fell over onto people and their homes in the winds! I highly recommend people to plant live oak trees in their yards and around their homes, they grow fast give great shade have extensive root systems and are very flexible (they bend in the wind, instead of breaking). In all my years of hurricanes I have experienced, I have never lost a single live oak tree! Just saying.

No we pay for our electricity and when the ceo makes $37million a year and the company makes billions a year.... We expect them to be prepared for this. Especially with the heat here, my house is 86 degrees inside right now, but at least I have Family nearby with a full home natural gas generator. They knew for over a week we may be impacted yet waited until after the storm to bring in help from out of state and did not not on standby nearby as they usually are. Not to mention their antiquated infrastructure that needs updating. All that money and they could bury the lines and avoid this type of mess, but now it's too late and no real change will ever occur, especially with those who are currently in charge of the state. This was just a cat1 hurricane, I can't imagine if we were to get a stronger one anytime soon, we be doomed.

When the earth balances these energies, the physics of energy moving through a system can be catastrophic for humans and other living things. As humans continue to add CO2 to the atmosphere, more of the sun's energy is trapped close to the earth which adds energy and worsens storms. We were made stewards of God's creation and we are destroying it with our selfishness. God didn't do this, we did.

That's because tx is flat with no mountains. Beryl was a 3 in Jamaica and didn't do much damage because the island is mountainous. The mountains protected the island. If they had a 3 like Jamaica some homes would be blown 3.

Do your research!! County and city planners rejected a relatively cheap (5 million) plan in the 1990s to build a huge pipeline that would funnel flood water to the ocean. They thought it cost too much money. Here we are billions and billions of dollars in storm clean up and repairs later.

I'm an electrician. I hooked my own home up with a back up generator. My family will not suffer and we can have heat or AC on demand with or without Centerpoint. (Not generac) Many people call me and ask me to hook them up. But they think $750 for labor is a scam. Enjoy the heat that you asked for. I'm not a grinch tho. I loaned out a generator and invited many neighbors over to charges their stuff. I had 60 gallons of gas on hand (like always) plus 20 large propane tanks... Some people learn...and others vote blue no matter who and expect a different result.

You're right! We need to drive less and I think that hybrid electric/gas cars is the way to go. Fixing global warming now won't stop these severe weather events but will prevent them from worsening at an exponential rate as they are predicted to do. The predictions for severe weather events were too conservative; climate scientists are shocked at how rapidly bad things are getting.

Get prepared, people. The time is NOW! The government is not going to help you, it is up to YOU! Get yourself a medium-sized generator that will run a window-unit A/C. Keep a decent supply of gasoline on hand (10 gallons would last 3 days running generator sparingly). Also, have generator and space heater ready for the next ICE STORM (remember that? Did you PREPARE after that nightmare?)

At the same time people are still shopping at memorial city mall, Lol. Meanwhile im working fixing other peoples air conditioning, my family is at home in the heat with no power. Life isnt fair, one mans fun is another mans hell. Life goes on we will bounce back like nothing ever happend in a couple of weeks.

Texas brought this on themselves. Texas never liked the United States of America (except for federal funds) - build a WALL on the northern border of Texas and give Texas back to Mexico???? However, thoughts and prayer for them

Was this the same storm that was supposed to have 150 mph winds when it came ashore. It was only 75 mph. More media lies.

@@greenearthblueskies8556 no. I’m tired of the media terrifying the public. There is a big difference between 75 mph wind and a 150 mph wind. There will still be damage but whole communities won’t be leveled. Every report on this storm had the words “climate change” in. Comes ashore as a tropical storm. Big difference.
