Standing up against hate crimes that escalated during COVID-19.
This is a monologue I wrote in 2021 as part of the devised play 'A Billion Smithereens of Hope' performed in June 2021 at Drama St Mary's.
This was a way to share my thoughts and feelings.
At first I found it incredibly vulnerable for people to hear and watch my writing being performed, but I soon realised it was necessary to speak from the heart and from my own perspective, rather than hide and 'Keep calm and carry on'.
There was a need to open up and stand up for what I believe in, because British East Asian voices need to be heard and ideas shared.
I hope this resonates with people.
