I can really connect with this song, being from rural Louisiana (Collinston Louisiana) I hear my Ancestors, voices from the Cotton fields and down in the Quarters.
Bought the Alan Lonax CD in the early 90s in NYC. Bessie Jones was magical. The Gullah Geechee culture inspired me to see 'Daughters of the Dust' three times! Used to sing 'Yonder Come Day' quietly to my son as a bedtime lullaby in London, UK. Still listen to it all these years later in my hometown of Cape Town, South Africa.
