Looks exactly like a Chris Reeve NYALA fixed blade at a great price for those like me on a fixed income tight budget. I am buying one of these. Thanks for the review.
I've heard that after making this video. Although it doesn't say CRK knives on it anywhere it's not really a copy. Maybe a "clone" but even then, a simple traditional handle and a simple sheepsfoot blade would really be hard to say it's a copy or clone. And it may be one, that I don't know. But I do no both the handle and blade are both very simple. It's not like it's a unique look/design. I no what your saying though, I'm not a huge fan of a designer or company blatantly ripping off designs
@@GBall_Vision This knife is a direct rip off of Chris Reeve. I get it, you're here to sell the Chinese trash but you can't deny this is almost an exact copy of CRK.
@@addisonesslinger3653Sweet pie, I don't have any affiliation with this company or any company. So i don't care if anyone buys it 😆 I bought it for the materials and price. I'm not a CRK fanboy either, so I'm not familiar with every knife design he has. Not to mention, a 3rd grader could design such a simple handle and blade, this sheepsfoot blade and handle has been around for decades upon decades.
That sucks to hear, good materials at a good price. And could get people who can't afford more expensive knives a way in on something affordable. I haven't saw the CR, but I believe it. On one hand I hate that stuff resembles a copy or clone, especially if they are trying to use the same name they are copying, at least they aren't doing that at brother but still and on the other hand Not everything can be a unique 1 off either. I won't be showing their stuff anymore because I've heard to much about them in the negative.
yes, nice one. i have a few Brother slipjoints which i love. no offense, but i think the best 30 USD fixed blades come from Eafengrow. 14C28N, DC53, D2 and Micarta or G10.
i have a bunch of their slip joints to on the channel, they are pretty good, the eafengrow fixies are decent, their 30$ ones are in D2 which id take 14c over D2, their 40-60$ fixies are in 14c. for 14c28n and micarta at 30$ is pretty hard to beat, but thats the great thing about knives, theres something for everyone. thanks for being here brother!
@@Bambi-lu thanks for your reply. please check the LTK (LuvThemKnives) test batches with Eafengrow blades. they all turned out to be D2. or other advertised steels respectively. so what can i say ?
It goes dull very quick after cutting some cardboard. Despite different sharpening methods (factory sharpening was moderate to bad, with approx 30 degree per side cutting edge), there's no "teeth agression" as D2 steel should be. Moreover, it holds an edge worse than 14c28n and K110/NMV during the same test, with the same materials and same degrees at the cutting edge. @@GBall_Vision
Check out your video library and hadn't seen this one yet. I wasn't aware of this knife. Pretty good deal. I carry a QSP Penguin so i love a warny or sheepsfoot. Check out the Artisan Seasnake. Awesome warncliffe in AR-RPM9 steel. Around $50. I added a clip from an IWB holster. Carry it quite a bit for about 2 years. Gonna check that blade out. Thanks
Hell yeah man! The sea snake was actually one of my first EDC Fixed Blades I ever bought. I have the all black version and I use connect the dot scout straps for that one. It's a great all around knife. EDC work and even self defense in some ways. This watchman/brother fixed blade for 30ish $ is a smoking good deal for the money thanks brother
They are 14c and have micarta scales, + different blade shapes and insanely good price, I def prefer my ESEE knives but these are insanely well done for the money
It may be. But it's not a unique design, it's a simple handle and blade shape. Lots of knives have a standard handle and sheepsfoot blade. And it's not a copy because they don't have CRK on the knife. Idk if that was their intention or not, if it was I don't like that at all but like I said both very simple aesthetic if I told my daughter to draw a knife she would draw that 😂
I just got the w222. I was looking at the model you got. But i couldn't pass on the w222. It looks like a esee 3. I can't believe the quality for $30 even the Kydex is perfect. I don't understand people paying $100+ when deals like this. This knife is better then many name brand that are pushed on RU-vid. I love 14c28n for a outdoor knife. If you believe the larren Thomas charts. Its one of the best steels for the money. Anyway i wanted to give you a shoutout for recommending this gem. You are the man. Most RU-vid guys are pushing blades that cost $200+ (we know why). Im not a collector especially of production knives it makes no sense really.
Amazon budget blades would be a great series. Since I’m sure there’s a lot of hidden gems but buying randomly unknowns can be a crapshoot. I mean, I’d never heard of this one til your video and without it I wouldn’t have also bought it. Thanks
Do you know if there are replacement scales for these? I just ordered the drop point in the green. I prefer G10 hence the ask. Thanks and great review.
I don't know that there would be a huge aftermarket support for something like this, but I think they would be able to be made very easily by just about anyone who does that type of thing and there are a lot of guys in the community who do that stuff
Just ordered one with the green handle after watching your review and doing some comparison work. Thanks for the great review. The 14C28N is nice, love it on my Mora companion.
I just bought a different style Watchman knife because of your review. I've never heard of this company before and there's alot of really poor quality junk on Amazon so you have to be super careful and look up reviews from people who actually use the stuff (which coincidentally is how I found your video and channel) 😅 You're totally right, especially for fixed blades where there's no moving parts/complex locking mechanisms and it's just steel and scales, for Civivi and other companies to charge THIS much when they're being cranked out on mass and not hand-made is insane..... There's no way they cost that much to produce per/knife so I'd feel foolish to spend that much unless it's to support a certain designer or the knife is something crazy special So thanks for the review and introducing me to a new company. I just liked and subscribed 👍
Which one did you get? I have 3 brother or watchman fixed blade videos up. The small brother and the drop point watchman. And there's tons of junk but def some gems as well. Thanks man. That means a ton to me I appreciate it 🤜🤙🔥
I ordered the one that looks similar to the Esse Izula. Apparently they got the product description wrong as they list it as D2 when it's really 14c28n like this knife, also it's not an exact clone as one of the product reviews said it was a bit bigger than the Izula in "all the right places".....whatever that means, 😅guess i'll find out when the knife comes in I've been eyeing an Izula for awhile now to try edc-ing one as a fixed blade, but I couldn't justify spending $60 (to $85 for the ones that have handle scales and aren't skeletonized) when I wasn't sure if i'd even like carrying the knife.... Also like i said in my previous comment, the Izula seems really overpriced for what is essentially a super-small coated piece of 1095 steel with a couple of optional screw on pieces of micarta or G10. It's like you said about Civivi where it feels like you're buying the name instead of the knife, because there's no way they cost that much to manufacture when they're cranking those things out in batches. It's not like you're buying it from a small knife maker who makes every knife by hand, in which case i could easily see the value in just man-hours of them making one, as well as in supporting a small business Don't get me wrong i see why people want to support a USA made knife, and if it turns out i really like this one i might still get the Izula, but it just seems kinda crazy to me that they're charging what you can typically get a much bigger fixed blade for, for such a small neck-knife sized blade.... This is my first knife from Watchman though, and if i like the one i ordered when it comes in i'll definitely be picking up the one from this video as well. That sheepsfoot blade looks so nice, 👍and $30 is way too affordable to not at least try the knife if you see one you like.
@@General_Kenobi_212 hey Derek it's been a month since you wrote this comment, and I just came by and was curious how that Izula-style one has been working for you. I'm interested in getting one myself so I'd be glad to hear any thoughts you could offer. Thanks!
@taylorfishman823 Oh, the Izula style one is great, I'm extremely impressed with it. 👍 I've been using it at work after I took the belt clip off and tied some 325 paracord thru the eyelets on the sheath to my belt loop for a "rip cord carry" like how Lucas Burnley described on his CRKT Obake video here on RU-vid. Or how the RU-vid channel (Hard on Gear) calls it the "Samurai Carry" option (he has a video on that too) I've bought the knife in this video too, and they're exactly the same in terms of quality, only different in design. I have to say Watchman makes an amazing fixed blade, especially for the price. 👌
😂 they are worth the money buddy! I have the razel on the way 😂 be here tomorrow. I'm stoked. I sent some people your way today during my live stream 🤜💥
How is the edge retention? I watched one RU-vidr do a edge retention on a watchman knife it didn’t do as well as 14c28n should. Now that could be a one off. I’m just curious on what you think? For that price I’ll probably get one myself. I just got a srkC I’m sorry I waited so long. It’s not like the SRk I bought in the 1990 . That one was thick and indestructible for a knife. I’ll tell you if you can find one Utica utkn2. It’s a neck knife like izula or that watchman with G10 handle an kydex sheath. I paid $40 a few years ago. They used to be on Amazon it’s my favorite pocket fixed blade. Just a fyi Have a good one.
So far it has been good to go man. I don't have any scientific testing but as far as use goes it seems to be good. And for the money hard to beat. I'll have to check out the Utica. Thanks brother
So.... A stolen design from CRK? No wonder its a well designed knife; its a stolen design. This is incredibly cringe and being a mouth piece for a cloning company is an insanely bad position to take.
i tend to get buried by comments and only can get to so many in a day, i wasnt aware this was a "clone" though. i have not saw the crk version either. ill have to look at it, so its an exact replica of the crk? i figure it to be a very neutral handle and blade shape, they also have 2 or 3 other blade shapes with the same handle configuration. i mainly bought this to give people an affordable option that has decent materials for an edc fixed blade. I in no way condone promoting clones, i dont like direct copies either, but as i said with this being such a neutral shape, it could be comparable to a lot of fixed blades im guessing as there is only so many useful shapes to make a knife in. i will go scope out the CRK, but something to keep in mind also, a clone is a separate company making the same knife and trying to pawn it off as the real thing. I wont do content on it if it is a copy, i have no association with this company, just trying to help people get a budget fixed blade to get them in to a edc sized fixed blade. thank you for pointing this out to me, i appreciate it brother
Oh, shut it about the clones already... it's similar, and not a direct copy. In that case, it's a whole another knife on by itself. And what about cars? You don't drive one because it's a Model T ripoff?!
No company or designer right now created that blade shape or handle. Everything looks similar to something. If it was brother knives made but said tops knives then id have a big issue with it as it would be a direct copy
@@GBall_Vision You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about... This knife is objectively a direct copy of the "Chris Reeve Nyala Insingo." Right down to the milling on the handle scales, the swedge, and the gimping.
Wouldn't a direct copy mean they are portraying it as that knife? Regardless, I've never seen that knife. Secondly this is a $30 knife I bought to give people options who don't have a lot of money but can still get decent materials. I don't approve of a direct copy or clone, something trying to be something it's not. They definitely walk a fine line doing designs that closely resembling another knife like that though
@@GBall_Vision no, copy means they copied the design... When you copy someone's homework or test answers you don't then write their name on your test. 🤦 In just providing a fact, not necessarily making a judgement. People are free to buy them, it's your money.
@@squirts1 So if CRK hasn’t made this knife in four years, does that make any difference in your opinion? I would love to get my hands on an original but they don’t make them anymore, and apparently they’re selling on eBay for 10 X what they originally sold for and I can’t afford that… which leaves me this blatant copy… and I actually had to do some digging to figure all this info out… It’s not very obvious anywhere, your comment is the one that led me to the original.
