One of the best bargain pedals has got to be the Rowin Plexion Distortion Pedal, which is available on Amazon right now for $40.50 CAD after shipping and taxes. I never heard of this brand before, but wanted to give it a shot.
Cleans up pretty well and doesn't sound too noisy even when gain is maxed. There is a bright switch, volume, tone and gain controls. It is also true bypass and operates on a 9V charger. The build quality is rugged and reminds me of the Ibanez TS9 Mini for less than half the cost.
It works great with humbuckers, specifically the Gibson Les Paul Special and the Yamaha THR10. It's not a boutique pedal, but it's a lot of fun for practicing around the house.
If you don't want to spend too much on a pedal, but want to experiment with different distortions, give this one a look!
