Comparison to the videomicro?

In your test with the takstar, the takstar sounded noisier, Despite the preamps being turned down. The Comica sounded much cleaner despite preamps being turned up to 5 or 6. That 20db boost isnt much use if it introduces noise of it's own.

It sounds very similar to the Rode Videmicro. Well done Nigel!

How come you dont use Amazon to make money? Dude you are losing out on alot of cash. If you linked the products to amazon, you would get a cut. You could earn thousands a year..

Thanks for the great review and really beautiful color graded vids. The Rode Videomicro seems to pickup too much of the high frequency to my liking. Do you think this mic would provide a lower frequency response? No one on internet ever compared this two mics. Hard to find such information :(

Great review! I just bought the Takstar SGC-698 following your review of that mic. It seems to have more hiss than the Comica in the test you performed. How can I reduce hiss on the Takstar? Using -10Db? Using the low-cut filter? (which I don't really understand the purpose of btw) I've turned the pre-amps all the way down on my T4i. Thanks!

I'm planning to buy this kind of mic, is it good with canon 600D?

I was looking at the Rhodes & Gigibon version and they all look the same. It's like one of those products that one company builds a product then 10 companies put their name on it . I have a DJI Osmo that I use a DJI M-15 FlexiMic on it but since I got the Z-Axis arm install the DJI M-15 FlexiMic is now useless because it gets into the Z-Axis arm's way. So, after further review of this Comica, I went ahead and purchased it. I do have also the Sony ECM XYST1M Microphone which I use on my Osmo but because the foot of the microphone is all expose electronic metal, I have to put a masking tape on it to prevent it from shorting out the audio when I mount it on the Osmo bracket mount.

Hi, do you know if this would be any good for the EOS-M. I got the SGC-698 following your advice but had to return it due to too much noise (tested with multiple PCs as well as my camera on multiple gain settings, but tons of noise on all), so was wondering if this would work better.

have you tried using the mic while recording a video from phone/action camera? Cause my mic doesn't seem to work when i'm on video mode but works if i'm just recording sound on my phone and doesnt seem to work at all on my action camera lol.

Nice quality, excellent size, great accessories and bargain price! So many good things going for this one, easy purchase. Looking forward to put in action and hearing how it is, but already i'm getting the feeling this will solve lot of problems when it comes to good audio quality, streamlining the whole process. Sorry I'm a noob, if you are using the zoom h1 as a preamp do you have to sync the audio in post? Also what settings do use on the zoom? What dcb level ect. Btw thanks for a great video!

I had a Rode that looked same as this one that I left behind on a shoot and lost it. I bought one of these, then a 2nd one. These are great, and have a bit more gain than the Rode. I use it on a phone sometimes, or with Tascam DR100m3. Great little mics for the price. Noise rejection from sides and back or ok, but of course not as good as a more serious shotgun.

What Mic would you recommend for a Cannon EOS Rebel SL1?

Sounds good, even tho on the 60D the noise kinda ruins it, tho that can be fixed. I have the same problem with my Rode VideoMicro, using Magic Lantern to control all the microphone settings :)

He Nigel, Im using the comica also with my panasonic G6. I have the volume all the way up on the G6 otherwise i almost cant hear myself. And i also have a weird tikking noise in this mic, it depends sometimes almost none i used a few cables but when i think i have it the next day the sound is back I also put the mic away from the camera with a longer cable. Do you have a advice what i can do or try now? Thnx
