"Death Star" checking in. I have a pair of these phased together (verticals and horizontals phased separately) and they work well. If you want them circular polarized and maximum F/B, add another 90 degree stub to one of the polarizations and feed them like a turnstile antenna. However, I found that these work much better as stand-alone polarity beams. In other words, do not try to run both polarities at the same time, pick one. My normal 2m base setup is a set of phased 14 element yagis (vertical only) on the 55' tower fed with legal limit power. ERP is around 150,000 watts. Simplex to Hawaii is best "DX" so far. 73 DE K6FRC

Great antenna man. Wish there was more 2m SSB 'round here. Excellent video. HLTW TeamReplay for the win

You probably figured out already it is a circular polarized antenna more than likely for satellite work and i suspect for the frequencies in the satellite portion of two meters. Enjoy your videos especially when you build antennas for mountain top op. Awesome job keep it up, 73 de N6LPV

Yea Frank, I found some more info on it and you are correct on the circular polarization. I took it out this weekend and used just one set of elements tuned for 144.200 and 146.520 and just changed it from vertical to horizontal and worked great. Thanks for the kind words, really like the portable opps. 73.

That antenna is NOT a Circular polarity beam......it is a Cross Polarity Beam....Circular Polarity is used on satellite communications, cause the satellites receives in ( 2m )in a circular rotation in the right hand turn in a circular pattern and transmit in a different band like the FM birds down on 432-435 mhz. in a right hand circular rotation pattern down to earth. On most beams like the older version of the KLM antennas come with a switch box of 12 volts and you can add a toggle switch of 12v to activate the antenna box and it to switch to the Left hand rotation turn on some satellites that when it first orbit into space and turn into a left hand rotation. I have 2 circular KLM 430's antenna's in a 48 elements on one beam. The circular polarity antenna spacing is spread apart from a ( vertical -space-horizontal-space-vertical ) and etc.The Cross Polarity is joined with a ( vertical and horizontal-space-vertical and horizontal ) like a Cross.....Now the new company is called M2 by Mike Staal K6MYC in Fresno,Ca.

you can still use this for Horizontal SSB and Vertical for FM,you'll need to get a switching box from M2 antenna's or make your DIY project box to change the polarity's on the antenna.

You can use only 1 coax on vertical and 1 coax on horizontal in a switch box.You cannot use both coax on vertical and horizontal in that "Y" configuration set-up.......

Should have fed each polarity with individual coax cable. With the phasing harness you lose 3db but don't suffer from cross polarization degrading.

I have been thinking about a big Yagi...Im a General Licensed operator but Im the odd man out because I like 2 meters betrer than HF...Im a storm chaser so thats all 2 meter and I just like keeping it local..Im running a Diamond X300-A right now and I can get out 50 miles on simplex under about any conditions but I would like to extend that a little

What frequency is the phasing harness made for? An antenna analyzer is a MUST for doing antenna work. A Nano VNA is a great tool at a fraction of the cost, although more difficult to learn. W2AEW has great videos on this. I'm curious if you hooked an analyzer to the phasing harness(s) and checked them. At 1/4 wave of their operating frequency they will look like a dead short. The coax is 40 years old. Probably good, but worth spending time checking. Your friend might help you and all you would need is the harness(s) to bring over to him. A final note: All coax, even hardline is extremely lossy at 144 Mhz. 100 feet of coax can kill half your signal pretty easily. Don't be scared to use it anyway. The tradeoff of height can make up for line loss, but the 3:1 swr will be considerably less after the long run of coax. When I get a bad swr and can't do much about it, I just cut my power back. I do this on hf also. When I tune up my antenna on the air I put the radio on low power and put it in AM mode with NO audio which automatically reduces the power and puts the carrier in the CENTER of a signal so the people on the frequency can't even tell I'm there! Good luck and 73's!

I have this same antenna, it’s really a piece of crap ! It doesn’t work well as if it was a single polarized antenna !

I think it really depends on what you feed it with! Cheap feeder = crap reception I'd use EcoFlex15 round the rotator and LDF550 to the radio and your reception will blow you away. I used to own the Cushcraft WB215 a 15 ele and tried it with rg58, rg213, ldf250 and finally ldf550, the latter just blew the others away, used it mainly horizontal FM, but was good fun on SSB with a preamp on the mast, I managed to work 1064K from Liverpool UK to somewhere in Germany on 10mW!!!!! so, yup, feeder is the magic that makes your antennas work properly. Even halos on 2M work very well when fed correctly! so if your antennas not performing, don't blame your antenna, check your feeders and connectors.
