This was the best year of Drum Corp I have seen in a number of years!! I am so glad I got to go watch this year at World Championships! I was sitting in the 3rd row dead on the 50 yard line! Great experience!!
This is so much more emotional watching it between Semifinals and Finals, especially with the drama between BD and Crown this year (go Crown!). Also New York Morning: Lie down, try not to cry, bawl your eyes out.
This was a time where you still had to have visual demand choreography wise, you had to be able to March clean dots and you could also stand and play with out it being a problem. I love the texture nowadays and how clear the visual focus is, but I do miss the simplicity and focus on music and cleanliness. 2008-2015 was where I feel this is true. 2007 and previous didn't have enough visual focus or narrative at all. Where as now it seems like the visual takes precedence over music in ways it didn't before. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. I still love the activity. This is more an observation than a knock on the activity today.
My brother, may he rest in peace, was in the Blue Stars, but we all knew Phantom was the best of the best. This was such a moving experience for me. Thank you for the putting this together and for the absolutely amazing editing. The choice for finale' was exquisite! I'm in tears as I type this. Bravo!
about to go see dci 2012 tour in the theater and super excited about it this video gave me goose bumps so many times over in such a short time i am so going to enjoy the show tonight
Jeremy... I marched Drum Corp for the first and only time this year with the Colts. I have never worked that hard in my entire life at anything and it basically changed the way I look at life. I think that you should also make a Best 2011 DCI Non-Finalist Moments video for the people who worked the entire summer to do what they love, but never ever get the same credit as the top 12 corps do even though we work just as hard. I would appreciate that greatly!
It's called editing...you know (or maybe you don't)...artistic licence. When you do YOURS you can do it YOUR way. Most of us appreciate the artistry involved in how this was put together and presented. It was beautifully done and much appreciated.
And watch every corp you can, including Open Class! I saw every corp this past year (went to prelims) and it's truthfully an amazing experience. Obviously the top World class corps are in a league of their own but these Open Class guys have worked just as hard to get fans in the stands.
I know nothing about D&BC, but geez, this astounds me. Spirit of Atlanta, Blue Coats, and Phantom Reg. my choices from what I just watched. Thanks for posting. I'll go try to compose myself.
Hey @JeremysBugles, so I've been watching your videos for as long as I can remember and I owe you a big thank you! It has been my life's dream to march in a drum corps all because of your videos. And now that you've made a Best Moments 2011 video I feel such a great pride to be in one of your videos. I love this video almost as much as I loved my with the Madison Scouts. I am truly grateful for your video making talent and I hope you continue to make these amazing works of art! Thank you!!
Congrats on another excellent 'best moments' installment! I suggested to my FB friends who follow DCI that they subscribe to your videos, as I do. I also enjoy your clips of the week. Keep up the good work, and thank you!
I have watched this about twice in the last year or two, what a great selection of best moments good job. There are many more but just cant put them all in one presentation. Continue with what you are doing to help promote Drum Corps. ( sorry gang we have evolved from bugles now, so I personally think is better, just need to replace the missing band front on the field so we can present a better overall picture for general effect.
Marching bands are generally associated with a high school or university/college. Drum and bugle corps are currently limited to "valved, bell-front" brass instruments only. Trombones and sousaphones are currently not permitted in drum and bugle corps. NOR ARE WOODWINDS OF ANY KIND. Drum and bugle corps brass instruments traditionally are pitched in the key of G, unlike concert/marching band brass instruments, which are in the key of B-flat (or sometimes F or E flat).
OK, point taken, you are still musicians, regardless of the instrument, and yes, there is still power and emotion...as a former drum corps brat, I can certainly appreciate your performances, believe me...I guess I see a lot of comments about people missing the old days, when you weren't allowed to have electronics, and amplification, when it was you, your fellow members, and your horns, to convey the emotion (ie: Spirit 1980)...March on, and keep playing!
As a performer, let me tell you it was loud even from my viewpoint. They end up closing the top of the stadium and every impact echoes for dayssss. It's an amazing feeling and I can just picture what it would feel like for the audience.
I loved all the performances, and I believe this art form is arguably the most under appreciated and would be the best representation of America to the world! Go on the road outside of the USA. You are all the embodiment of Victors! We need more victors and less victims.
Ah 2011 a time when drum corps sounded very good and to a certain extent similar to one another. Then again the top corps always put something together that made the crowd excited
Arguably my favorite World Class moments from 2011? Blue Knights playing Molly on the Shore, definitely the Bluecoats opening with Creep, and Phantom Regiment closing with Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral... All completely and totally badass.
If you watch XtraordinarY closely, in the closer, the backfield drum major runs through drill and jumps over the pit to hold the other drum major upside down.
Well this was a great video for sure, but I would've loved to have seen more BK moments (myself being a member in 2011). There were only 3 clips, and all of them were under 5 seconds long. I understand that there were 12 corps to choose from, and tons of GREAT moments, but please share the wealth. I understand that this video was based on an opinion, but I would love to see at least one video of where each corps got the same amount of "air time". Great video though.
What I like about this year the most was that the many of the corps (not just finals) used more recognize-able music/themes. Burt Bacharach, Dies Erae, Empire State of mind, I could've Danced all night, Nature boy, Radiohead (twice) 7th Regiment and Bluecoats, the bourne Identity, Crown and BKnights' shows basically, Amazing Grace, Les Miserables, Pandora's Box, the Moon, and MANY More.. 2011 was awesome. I love this vid
I am never a Blue Devils fan because I'm just not really into the complicated jazz techniques they usually use, but there show this year was amazing! I loved every minute of it. If they would have taken first instead of Cadets, I would have been just fine with that!
@googliman1 I think I have to agree with you! The tenor part and the mallet parts were unbelievable. Beyond that even. I saw them at a rehearsal in town and being that up close was awesome.
From their fall in 2009, Phantom Regiment is consistently pushing towards Championship caliber. 2013 be their year! Or Carolina Crown, stayed top 5 for 4years and this year's success, my vote is on either of these corps!
