Probably the first review of this lens that explains well the fact that macro or near macro lenses will hunt in auto focus. Bravo.

Got 24mm of this for macro and close focus and Im very happy! feel sorry for my 90mm macro now left behind with this light and compact set on my Sony A7C, was thinking about zoom but seen 40% off offer on 24mm and couldn't resist - its price to features ratio is outstanding for 269! Manual for video when auto focus gets confused in some cases and happy days

This is my #1 lens for Sony FE. I use it on the 7R III and its IQ (for only 180€!!) doesn't leave any wishes open. However, I would wish for a second version with an aperture of f2 or more to be even more flexible and independent of weather. The reason why I would prefer this 35mm over every other one is its MFD. I don't need true macro, but I like to have the opportunity to get closer to really get shots that are dedicated more to the details of things sometimes. Most of the available 35 or 50mm lenses aren't really great art this and you would need a second lens to do this. What is especially beneficial about this lens, too, is the combination of weight, size and grip, especially with the lens hood attached: it's very lightweight and it sits in the perfect spot between too small and too big so that you have a good steady grip while the lens hood doesn't add any size to it due to its design. You can leave a filter (UV or polarization) on it all the time and have to change absolutely nothing. It remains compact, lightweight and ready go to. Comparing it to other lenses such as 35 or 50mm options, I don't really consider these to be attractive in terms of value for money. Taking into consideration that you can get Tamron's 28-75 G2 for about 700-760€, I would rather buy this one than any of these f/1.8 options (especially looking at Sony's own options such as the 35/1.8 or the 55/1.8 ZA). If you really need the light and/or 'bokeh' of a 1.x lens, I would go for Samyang's 50/1.4 Mk II (if it will be used for both photo + video as a hybrid, around 570€) or for Sony's 50/1.8 (if it will be used for photo only or you know how to use manual focus on videos, around 160€). In terms of versatility, MFD and "how much lens for your money", the 2 mentioned Tamrons are very hard to beat. If you want more close-up focusing, use the 35/2.8. If you want a more comfortable lens in terms of AF and zoom capability and a bit more 'bokeh', you can use the 28-75 G2 at 75mm and f/2.8, that produces very nice separation, too, plus you get 4 focal lengths in one at a very reasonable price.

The best 35mm Lens for Sony E-mount is the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which is build like a tank and has outstanding optical performance.

The tamron 2.8 prime semi macro lenses comprise a great series. I got the 24 for perspective. design and macro work. On the a7r4 the detail is amazing and one can crop so one gets sensor zoom. i did not get the 35 as I have several legacy lenses - the best is a Mir 35mmf2. It is manual focus but very nice rendition. I also use the samyang 45mm f1.8 - small very lightweight lens with its own signature. I too love macro lenses and I think having this extra macro range makes these lenses very versatile.

Really enjoyed the sample footage including how lean those coffee beans look at the start! Proof how good the macro is on this lens. Nice introduction to an affordable prime (although F2.8) lens from Tamron.

My favorite lens is a 50mm and I also have a 28mm, so a 35mm always feel kinda too close on between. Until last week, finally ordered this one. I'm impressed with your results and looking forward to see what I can get as the only lens in my next trips to Indonesia and the Netherlands.🙂

thank you for sharing! you seem warm and trustworthy thus I enjoyed watching and listening. I will not be watching more videos to decide as this one did just that. I will start with this 35mm 2.8 Tamron + A7 IV as a beginner looking for a camera + lens to take auto pics for window tint and vinyl wrap close-up.

Awesome video, would you recommend this lens over the Sony 50mm 1.8 for videographers?
@qwe1231

I generally prefer 28mm or 35mm. In APS-C I like a 20mm lens (30mm equivalent). In m43 I like the Panasonic 15/1.7 (also 30mm equivalent).

Hi.wich one is better for APS-c? Tamron 35mm f2.8 or sigma 35mm f 1.4
@talhashah
@talhashah 4 года назад
At 2:46 mark, your point is clear that 2.8 prime is lighter and smaller, but you got the weight incorrect. Per Tamron's website, 35mm prime is 210g (0.46 lbs or 7.4 oz).

How does the image quality compare to the 28-75? I’m wondering if it just makes more sense to get the zoom since they’re both 2.8 lenses
@Gemini_Connect
@Gemini_Connect 3 года назад
Image quality between the two lenses is on par. The main reason to get the 35mm is if you want the smaller size. Personally, I'd get the zoom instead to cover the wider focal range.

@@Gemini_Connect Yeah, that's what it looked like so thanks for confirming! I'd definitely prefer the versatility of the zoom as well but I'm sure this would be a fantastic lightweight choice for many people. Cheers

I actually like Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AF, for fullframe e-mount better. Have you tried it? For video is great altough it has some clicks on the focus hunting. But if you're using an external mike, like one should, always... not an issue. ;)
@Gemini_Connect
@Gemini_Connect 2 года назад
Haven't tried that lens.
@Histogramas
@Histogramas 2 года назад
@@Gemini_Connect it's cheap, as most samyang, but the optics is formidable. A bit heavier than that but still usable on a Ronin S, mostly like the 90mm f/2.8 macro, but hey... focus is medium fast, programmable with the samyang base (you can program reaction time, focus speed, focus distance as with other samyang lenses - 14mm f2/8, 85mm etc). All in all quite good.

So on an APS-C camera this lens would be about 50mm?

HI, have you tried also the Sony 35mm 1.8 or the Samyang 35mm 1.8? I'm looking for a compact, lightweitgh and tropicalized 35mm for my A7ii, wich of theese do you prefer? Sorry for my bad english, greetings from Italy
@Gemini_Connect
@Gemini_Connect 3 года назад
Buongiorno Giovanni! I havent tried either of those lenses, but I do own the 50mm f/1.8 and I love having that extra stop of light compared to an f/2.8. If it's in your budget, I would go the Sony f/1.8 route. I trust Sony's quality and consistency over Samyang. I have the Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 -- a good lens, but it has some compromises (ie manual focus only), and that's usually the case if you go with Rokinon or Samyang.

Hello, is autofocus quiet while shooting a video? Can't hear how it focuses on the recording?
@Gemini_Connect

Autofocus is reasonably quiet, but not silent.

🤔 but the 55/1.8 lives on your camera 90% of the times . That is a great lens I agree
@Gemini_Connect

It does, yes. But I often shop around for other lens alternatives that might take its place.

This is the first video I've ever seen claiming 35mm is what is recommended for a first lens due to being close to how our eyes see. I usually hear the exact same thing for 50mm. I have no idea which is true, but it's confusing as a beginner.
@Gemini_Connect
@Gemini_Connect 4 года назад
Martin and I have always understood 35mm to be the closest to what the human eye sees. The more research I do, it looks like that is debatable -- most say that the focal range is anywhere between 35mm-50mm, likely because your eye can see wide if it chooses to, or you can narrow your vision to ~50mm. Either way, you probably want to know which lens is best for a beginner, and we both agree that 35mm is best because it is wider and thus easier to compose images. It usually takes more practice to get used to shooting at 50mm since it is more zoomed in. I hope this helps, and sorry for any confusion!

As Gemini says, both 50 and 35 do show you kindda what you see. Let me put it this way: If you are paying close attention (but not "on top of it" to something, most likely you are seeing in 50mm. If you are relaxed looking to a landscape or street view, you are more on a kind of 35mm. With the 35 you can more or less "focus" on a near subject and still have the environment where it is in view and perceive it. With the 50, your attention is pushed only to the focused subject. Helps?
