I own the above mentioned Panasonic, and I'll tell you it's amazing and well worth the money that I paid for it, no disappointments at all with it and worth every cent
I have a Sony x700 and it freezes up two but I learned to check the disk for dirt or other foreign smudges or wipe with clean water.also check if players are too hot that player needs to be cooled down.
I've had the x700 for a year, and I've come to the conclusion that it's just not very good. Most BD-66 (66GB) Blu-rays over 2 hours long will eventually freeze or start skipping in the last 3rd of the film, requiring the player to be restarted, and BD-100 (100GB) Blu-rays are basically just DoA. They'll start freezing/skipping about 10mins in. I've been through every possible fix I could find online, and all the disks play perfectly on my Xbox One X, so I'm pretty much at the point of just switching to Panasonic, or maybe Reavon. It seems like some people have had better luck with Sony's UBP-X800M2, but sadly those aren't available in my region.
I had the Sony X700 but it kept freezing when playing 4k discs, After trying lots of suggestions to fix this i got fed up with it & got rid of it, Now have Panasonic UB 820 works fine.
Me too! I have always loved Sony products, but the X700 skipped like every 20 seconds. I too got the Panasonic 820 and it is awesome! I actually think it improved the picture too.
If only Panasonic would make an upgraded version of the 820 with a metal case. As it is the 820 is excellent, but let down by it's plastic lightweight build which robs you of pride of ownership. Oppo are sorely missed, with only Magnetar filling the gap, but how long will they be around?
I just recently bought the Panasonic UB420 on sale for Black Friday. I know it's not the very best but I feel it's good enough for me and my use case. I also stream a lot of my content but I'm thinking about canceling some of my subscriptions. Streaming is really getting too expensive. I cut my cable sub off to start streaming. It's almost as expensive as cable. I hope I'm happy with 4K blu ray now. 😊
just got one myself. Disappointed the 2nd hdmi audio out doesn't support Dolby Atmos if the 4K hdmi output is used. I wanted to run video to my 4K tv but run the separate audio to my Denon atmos receiver. I don't like running video thru the receiver when I can avoid it.
É una stupidaggine aver e Voler togliere il disco blu sulle console anche per videogame per i soli dati. Allo stesso modo togliere dal pc portatile Il lettore che ricordo aveva il grande sony vaio. Proprio stupidi.
I got a stash of old DVDs with documentary films mostly in some sort of AVI format. Not knowing too much about all these abbreviations on videos and sound, but they are a bit old. Some is in MKV. Question if the Panasonic UB820 could play such DVD.
Yes, it supports DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, CD-RW, BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-Video, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, CD-DA, BD-Video, BD-R DL, BD-RE DL, CD, CD-Audio, Blu-ray Ultra HD. Moreover it should upscale 480p video of the DVD to the 4k resolution
I once bounght a X-700, and soon returned it after I found it kept freezing whenever I watched 4K 60P video on RU-vid. Now, I'm considering PS5 or Xbox series X as my blu-ray player.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's good to know what worked and what didn't. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are great options for a Blu-ray player.
Love my Xbox but the fact that it won't support dts x simply because they don't want to is infuriating. Half my disks have to play in a Playstation which is not as good
Are any of these players region free? I'm specifically asking in reference to non USA blu ray discs (not 4k). If not, what is the best region free blu ray player?
The best blu-ray players hands down right now is the Magnetar UDP-800 and UDP-900 and you can even pay extra to get a version that is region free like you want
I'm still rocking my Oppo UDP203 but need another player. I'm looking at the Panny 9000 cause I don't know much about Reavon. Magnetar is over-the-top but I want something similar to my Oppo in features and build quality.
@@mistergsf I have the 9000, upstairs, gathering dust. Just too limited on what it can play. If all you're going to play are movies and CD's, it's excellent.
@@marcgoldstein2957 I only have a few SACDs and DVD-A discs in my collection so my UDP203 can handle that. Also, I still have my Oppo BDP83 in great condition which can play them also. So I guess I want a backup 4K Blu-Ray mainly for movies. My friend has a UB820. It's nice and compact and plays great but I wish it had a better build quality.
I tried out a SONY UBP-X800M2 and I noticed my ALIENS and DUNE (Part I) 4K UHD discs show bad chromatic aberration in some high contrast scenes. I compared this to the streaming versions (also in 4K HDR) and it's not present on those. Is it my TV? Is it the player? I returned the Sony player and am waiting to get another one until I have clarification on that bad purple fringing on very bright areas. My TV is a Samsung UN75RU8000FXZA 75" 4K TV.
I have the Sony 700 and the 800. Good units plays multiple disc, but sometimes it skips, you have to make sure the disc are spotless. But I give two thumbs up for them, in fact I’m planning on buying the region free player.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the Sony 700 and 800! It’s great to hear you’re enjoying the multi-disc feature, even with the occasional skipping issue. Keeping the discs spotless definitely helps. The region-free player sounds like a fantastic upgrade! Hope it works even better for you.
i think i have sony 800m2 i dont know, maybe 4 years allready😂 it is so fkn stupid at turning on, and disk loading, rc is such a cheap piece of shit and interface is kind of 20 years old 😂 and its still - new product 😂
Granted, at least 35% more expensive than the top Panasonic DP-UB9000, why do NONE of these 'best of 2024 4K Blu-Ray' reviews mention the Magnetar UDP800? Its a bit more audiophile grade (though not nearly as much as its more expensive sibling UDP900)... and both these Magnetar players are highly rated by independent audio & video e-mags and reviewers. "The ONLY 5 models you should consider!" my a$$$$$.
You raise a valid point! The Magnetar UDP800 definitely deserves a spot in the Video, especially with its quality and reviews. It's surprising how some models get overlooked in these roundups. Just to remind you, I mentioned the magnetar in my second top 5 video. : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5QuPSuX45TU.htmlsi=TFIGGLn9OWQVU5wI
I have 2 Sony x700's and both of them have freezing and lock up issues. Some 4K discs play fine (BD66) and others are a nightmare(BD100). Made the recommended changes in the settings menu, no change. Meticulous cleaning does help sometimes. Bought a Panasonic UB420 and my worst freezing discs played without a single glitch. Get a Panasonic and start loving 4K again!
Panasonic UB820K is the worst player I've ever had. It stops playing 4ks after a little over 1 year. My 1st one stopped playing 4ks while the blu ray kept playing discs. I bought another same model. Same exact issue at around the same exact time frame. Funny when the warranty is only for 1 year. Total bullshit and a rip off at $450 pricetag.
@grahamhall247 Rubbish my ass. Every word of that comment is true. 1 Samsung and 2 Panasonic UB820k's in 4 years. Going to try a Sony when I get the cash. The only rubbish was the pricetag. They are actually $499.99 + tax which rounds out at around $550 I paid for each.
Yes I had the Panasonic ub820 and mine stop reading my discs after 3 1/2 years and rarely played the machine. I really disappointed after paying $450 for the machine. Now I have the Panasonic ub420 and it plays flawlessly!!
sony 800m2 is the stupiddest disk and system loading of all times. you have to wait few minutes till you understand is it on or off and when the fk it will open tray😂
