The cylinders measured in spec. It would have added cost and then I would have had to buy new pistons. What would have been the advantage to boring the cylinders when the cylinder were in spec?

@showmerepair 2 года назад
I had it power honed. That way I could reuse the pistons and run new standard size rings. I’ve personally never had cylinders bored if the cylinders measure with in spec. I do have a 6.0 block in my shop that will get bored due to the cylinders being out of spec. It’ll be the first for me.

Do you reuse the rod bolts in Main bolts?
@showmerepair
@showmerepair Год назад
Yea I do reuse the rod bolts and main bolts. The factory repair manual does not say to discard of rod bolts of main bolts. It also does not refer to the rod or main bolts to being torque to yield.

I did a lot of step by step but a person should get a copy of the ford work shop manual to refer to.

Let me check with the company I get service information on. I know they use to offer single vehicle access that was cheaper than what a repair shop pays.

I broke the dow pin off the crankshaft when removing my harmonic balancer. Its broke off inside the crank. . Any tips on removing the broke off dowel pin? I'm not doing full rebuild. Just replacing harmonic balancer.
@showmerepair
@showmerepair 2 года назад
Drilling it is going to be very difficult. A carbide tip drill bit may be a good option. Maybe a kit like this could let you remove enough metal to pull it out. www.ebay.com/p/8015569010

How hard is it to rebuild a 6.0 powerstroke engine? Is it the same principles as any other engine? Most people make it sound that ypu have to be a rocket engineer to work on these engines.
@showmerepair
@showmerepair 3 года назад
The high pressure oil system that the injectors use to operate and the electrical system can be a steep learning curve. The base engine is the same as any engine. Some of the special tools needed to install parts like front/rear main seals and the tool used to time the engine are what make it difficult. A person could buy the tools off Amazon for a reasonable price and sell them to get most of their money back.

thanks for the video. I have a 2004 f250 powerstroke with 400k miles. I replaced head gasket 50k miles ago and I have pressure release and water loss through the degaser tank. no heat in the winter due to antifreeze loss. just picked up a 2006 engine that needs to be rebuild, has a hole in number 2 piston. I'll be sending the block, heads and crank to the machine shop. should I replace all 8 pistons or just the blown piston, what name brand pistons and bearings do you reccomend ? thanks
@showmerepair
@showmerepair 2 года назад
If your sending most parts to the machine shop. Send the pistons as well. They will be able to give you a better idea if they all need to be replaced. Pistons aren’t cheap for these engines and parts can add up quick. I would recommend ford pistons, ford bearing and ford gaskets. If you would like I can price you these parts. I work closely with my local Ford dealer. Email me. chrisbpowerstroke@gmail.com

I'm a farmer and dealing with crops and I'll be doing this in my free time until the end of the harvest season. I try to disassemble it in the next two weeks and get it to the machine shop. once the machine shop gives me the final specs I'll let you know. what brand torque wrench you using
@showmerepair

I use Snap on. At the time when I bought them they were the only like it offered. Now you can get nice electronic torque wrench’s from cheaper brands.

@showmerepair

Never used it. I do have a 3/8,1/2, and 3/4 cheap clock type harbor freight torque wrench’s. I’ve torqued bolts and then checked the torque with my snap on. Was very close, with in a couple foot lbs.

Hey brother, how did you make the lifting bracket to pull the motor? I picked up a 12” x12” plate and measured where the turbo pedestal goes. Did you pick up a piece of rebar, cut a hole, bend the rebar, then weld the two ends?
@showmerepair
@showmerepair 2 года назад
Your building your basically the same way. I bent my rebar before welding.

good morning, picking up my block tomorrow. do I need to line/align bore to use studs on the mains? powerstroke forums are confusing me, some people say you have to and others say no need to align bore. thanks
@showmerepair
@showmerepair Год назад
That would be something the machine shop can find out for you. They should have a gauge bar they can measure the line bore with and tell you if it need to be done. Did the engine have main bearing damage?

Are you using the correct tool to install them?
@jpressley10
@jpressley10 3 года назад
I did the same. Ordered the same tool linked to in the description, but can't seem to get it to expand equally, causing the lip to eat into the bearing surface on one side.
@showmerepair
@showmerepair 3 года назад
The tool may mar the edge some but as long as it doesn’t cause any change to the bearing then it should be ok to run. Run your finger along the bearing surface were the cam journal rides. Can you feel the bearing surface raised? If it feels uniform then I personally would run it. Make sure you line the cam bearing oil opening with the block oil hole.
