Gavin, It's a shame that you have so few subscribers when the focus of your channel is about such a serious matter of backup power in the event of a power outage. People are unaware of how critical this can be for a short or extended amount of time. If it can get as low as -2 degrees here in north Texas like it did in 2021, how do you stay warm enough to survive? When it's 105+ degrees with no power, how do you stay cool enough to survive when you're elderly? How do you power a CPAP or oxygen machine or keep your insulin and food cold during an extended power outage? The cost of repairing frozen water lines in your home can far exceed the cost of a backup generator. People don't think about these things because they're so accustom to it always being there. It's a good practice to have a backup to your backup in case of unforeseen failures. If plan A fails, revert to plan B. I learned that lesson well in 2021 when my backup generator failed when it was -2 degrees. Thankfully, I had a Buddy Heater and enough propane bottles to stay warm and comfy during the night so I could fix my backup generator the next day. Dual fuel is a must have in unforeseen events. Hope for the best and always be prepared for the worst.
Thanks for sharing this with us. Unfortunately most people don’t subscribe to channels that aren’t pranksters or comedians content creators. I appreciate the ones that do subscribe though 👍🏾😊
The Pulsar has a 3 year warranty and are assembled at the company's facility in Ontario, California. The engines used in the generators are manufactured in China by a company called Ducar.
Champion NEEDS to compete in this arena . Champion has a solid corporate presence in the US, even though its products are built in China like the other brands shown here. If I'm going to spend $3,000 on a 9,000 Watt inverter generator I want to know that my service issues will be addressed reliably. Based on my experiences so far with my 4,500 watt champion generator I would trust champion to get me parts or repairs if they had a larger generator in this segment. Unfortunately champion does not offer super quiet inverter generators like these with a larger whole house capacity.
I completely agree. The alternative is to buy the predator with a two year warranty. They just give you a new one if it fails. You do need to buy the warranty again though.
Apparently, the factory that makes all these generators must have a check list for the purchaser to mark off if they want side exhaust, metal air box, etc. Basically, do you want the good, better, or best model and what color do you want it? We'll make it any way you want it.
The ATS on the Duromax ended up being very useful for me as a home backup setup. Even with the battery tender, the panel will sometimes start ignoring the remote start after a couple of days. On the ATS connector, I made a switch to close the start relay (Start/Stop button) and I ran that right next to my panel.
This is the video I was waiting for! Well done Gavin! It seems like the Pulsar and Genmax Dual duel are a tie, other than price, warranty and parts availability.
I have the GenMax dual fuel, Love it... But seeing the blue "clone" Pulsar... Obviously it's the same machine, just branded differently.... So why does the Pulsar have 9500 starting & the genmax only has 9000??
They’re all about the same. It would be nice If you have the information on price, warranty, and best customer service. That would always be a deciding factor on which one to get. I know prices always fluctuate. But putting the price as of a certain date. And part availability. Thanks Gavin. Will be looking for the Pulsar load test. 👍
Here's a thought. With a few strokes of the keyboard, you could get the additional information you seek quite easily, all without leaving your couch. The man can't (and shouldn't have to) do everything for you.
I'd like to see the max running watts for the two dual fuel models. Does the Pulsar really get 500w more? Features aside, the best one is the one that lasts😅
Will Predator ever have a dual fuel? Propane is a must for me, and I'd like to buy at some place that has a local presence. Interesting that neither Predator, nor Champion, two of the longer-term, more well known players in this market, have not gone with a dual fuel on the bigger units. Wonder if there is a reason?
Gavin, love your videos as they are very informative. There are a lot of homeowners that would like to see reviews on open frame inverter generators. have you ever thought about doing this? It would be greatly appreciated.
Being that the generator should be about 15 feet from the house...considering windows, is the location of the exhaust that important or is it based on how your home/layout is? Mine will be sitting out in the middle of my backyard. Other than that, I love this channel and have learned a lot following you.
Which should I get for home backup? Run a fridge, deep freeze, portable a/c (night time), TV, cellphones/iPads (kids). Maybe a coffee maker in the morning for one hour. Note: Natural gas powers the stove, water heater, and chimney.
Cool video!!! I wonder what the price difference is between all of them having different options such as a 50 amp plug or a voltage meter and different fuel options. I bought the predator generator a couple years ago for $1800, Now I see they are over $2300 bucks in the store.
That’s a great point because I also bought My Generator the predator for $1800 and that’s the reason I don’t include prices because in another year they’re gonna be $2800 guaranteed.
Like your comparisons and info very, very Good. Have been trying to decide but now it's the price? I like the pulsar 9500 inverter but we'll see...Good job , very informative...
A lot of people treat the Predator 2 year warranty as a lease. You get a new one before two years and buy the warranty again. Harbor Freight seems to actually encourage this.
What is the canister you said was missing ? What does it do? Also you reviewed a Westinghouse 9500 inverter……. Your thoughts how it compares to the gen max
Can you make a video comparing say the GenMax here vs say the Powerhorse Portable Generator when it comes to low THD values? I don’t know how many portable generators have high THD values but the powerhorse without an inventor can get it so low. Also the Champion 201067 is low as well.
If I had a food truck I would pick the Genmax 10,500 that gives you all the starting power you need and instead of 7600 running you get 8500 W running.
Gavin, it's surprising just how similar all these generator are to each other with the GenMax and Pulsar differences only seem to be their respective colors. Do any of these stand out as far as reliability, customer service, build quality, or parts availability? Can the exhaust be extended out with the addition of a longer pipe by means of threading in a longer pipe section? Thx
They are very much similar when you look at them but when you dig a little deeper, you see the subtle differences like the oil filtration on the larger Genmax, the 50 amp plugs, and all the covers, the exhaust pipe can be extended.
My concern is that many people say that GenMax customer service is practically non-existent. People have stated that manual says that you may trouble starting the generator on LP & NG and that you may have to use gasoline to get it started, then switch to the other fuel source. I want to like the GenMax, but these cons have me leary. I do like the things you point out that set the GenMax apart from the others.
The CARB version will have the canister. It basically pulls the emissions into that canister and re-circulate it into that carburetor to be burnt again. Emissions
@@GeneratorReviews really what’s prompted me to say so is that so many bash harbor freights predator when infact doing a comparison like you just did in showing how they are all basically built the same with all the same components lol. Like lawn mower and riding tractors as well as zero turn mowers
Oil filters on generators now! How much do those cost? Is the design of the oil filter look like it would be a big failure point? Meaning likely to leak.
I think the benefits might outweigh the problem of any kind of leakage if it leaks you just replace an O-ring but having all that metal shelving out of the engine is 10 times more beneficial in my opinion. Thanks Glocktard😎👍🏾
