Prince, Bowie, the Kinks, Neil Young, Dylan,... They've all had 4+-album runs of greatness. Joni Mitchell too.

When Paul Simon won the Grammy for best album in 1976 for Still Crazy After All These Years, he famously thanked Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album that year.

Did you notice that for 5 of your first 6 albums, your last album in the sequence was a double album? Here are some more: Van Morrison: Astral Weeks thru Tupelo Honey (St. Dominic's Preview is great too, but that's 5.) Bob Dylan: Bringing It All Back Home thru John Wesley Harding The Kinks: Face to Face thru Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire R.E.M.: Document thru Automatic for the People (Really, their first 9 albums are all good.) Sonic Youth: Sister thru Dirty Otis Redding: Sings Soul Ballads thru Dictionary of Soul Bruce Springsteen: The Wild, The Innocent ... thru The River

@@eduardoc6441 I think "Face To Face" and "Muswell" are just slightly weaker than "Something Else" to "Lola". If I were pressed to name a great Kinks 4 album run, it's 'Something Else" to "Lola". I think they're perfect albums.

Talking about Queen. I would probably go: Queen II (1974) Sheer Heart Attack (1974) A Night at the Opera (1975) A Day at the Races (1976) I like News of the World as well but Queen II is the stronger album. For me. Might even consider changing A Day at the Races for Queen I.. Not too sure about that though. Another band that had a very strong run of albums but isn't talked about that much is Kansas: Kansas (1974) Song for America (1975) Masque (1975) Leftoverture (1976) Leaving out the great "Point of Know Return (1977)". Great episode Robert and TJR !

Hey guys! Your old drummer, Gary Z here! Love this show. I pretty much agree with all your choices. Queen is one of my all time favs bands and THIS was the hardest, because as a Queen purist, I love Queen II. It remains the one I reach for more than any other. But, because it was not commercially successful, I have to agree of your 4-run choice. Love that you guys did this topic! Keep up the good work.

I was waiting to see if you'd put Elton John and Queen in your album picks. 2 of my favorite artists of the 70's. And I'd have to agree with both 4 album runs. If I could take Caribou out I'd start of with Honky Chateau and end with Captain Fantastic but obviously can't do that. With Queen I like Queen 2 and The Game had some good songs but no doubt you picked their best run of 4.

That was a lot of fun, guys. Personally, I'd have started the Who's run with The Who Sell Out - as that's a stronger album than By Numbers imho. Great to see Elton included, I think Caribou is an excellent album - starting with his second album, you could have got two four-album runs out of him! I would definitely have included the Moody Blues: Days of Future Passed; In Search of the Lost Chord; On the Threshold of a Dream; To Our Children's Children's, Children. And David Bowie; The Man Who Sold the World; Hunky Dory; Ziggy Stardust; Aladdin Sane. Hope you guys do this again.

I understand why you didn't put the Beatles in a 4 album run cause how do you beat: Revolver. Sgt. Pepper. White album. Abbey Road. And I agree with Robert on his Stones and Stevie Wonder's picks (3 of those Wonder's albums won 'Album of the Year") And I totally agree with TJ on his Floyd and Led Zep Picks. HOWEVER, I DISAGREE with him about the WHO! I have their 4 albums starting at 'The Who Sell Out, Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia. And I would go with U2 with 'Unforgivable Fire', 'Joshua Tree', 'Rattle and Hum' (the original material on their should be an album in itself) and 'Achtung Baby!'

Do you guys listen to Laura Nyro? More Than A New Discovery, Eli And The Thirteenth Confession, New York Tendaberry and Christmas And The Beads Of Sweat, are incredible. All in a four album run between 1967 and 70. There is plenty of diversity and barely any filler. All written by Laura aside from Goffin/King's Up On The Roof. Very influential stuff, too. I am sure Kate Bush had been listening to Captain For Dark Mornings. Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection is his most consistent album, for me - i wouldn't change a note. However, it doesn't demonstrate Elton's incredible diversity, like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Do a 4 album run of Jethro Tull and Santana! Santana wise: most people may go back further, but the commercial days where he kept virtually most of the same members is what I like,: Moonflower, Inner Secrets, Marathon, Zebop. Or I would knock Moonflower off and add Shango, which brought back Gregg Rolie. Jethro Tull will be hard because I found that there was one within each possible 4 album run that was weaker...but for now I would go with: Aqualung, Thick As a Brick, a Passion Play, War Child. A close 2nd would be Too Old to Rock and Roll, and ending with Stormwatch. Let me know IF/when you will cover these.

With Neil Young, the question is whether Journey Though the Past and Time Fades Away count as albums. If neither counts, then he's got either Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere thru On the Beach or After the Gold Rush thru Tonight's the Night. You could even say Harvest thru Zuma, but I'd choose one of the other two suns.

Every album Elton put out between 1970 though 1975 are all worthy to be in his classic run. During that period he was on fire. Caribou has not clunkers. It is a fun album that gets deadly serious with the last two tracks. It has eared its place in Elton classic period.

@@TJRtheOriginal In some ways Caribou is Elton's Beatles For Sale album. Both albums recorded during a flourish of activities. For Sale after the first year of the busy first year of Beatlemania to meet the upcoming Christmas market and Caribou during a short break of Elton's busy tour schedule as he was reaching the peak of his popularity. Both album were consider a step down from Elton and Beatles previous album of A Hard Days Night and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. For Sale because it contained so many covers and Caribou because the material was not up to pare with Brick Road. Some interesting comparisons. I love both albums.

Great examples! For The Stones, I would make it a six-album run, to include 'Goat's Head Soup' and 'It's Only Rock N Roll.' I don't think Led Zeppelin had a run. They had Led Zep I and II, which Led Zep fans love. Then Led Zep III was weak. Led Zep IV was a masterpiece. 'Houses of the Holy' was also weak. Then 'Physical Graffiti' was another masterpiece. One guy you could include here is Ian Hunter. All his seven original 21st century albums, from 'Rant' to 'Defiance Part 2: Fiction' have been acclaimed as masterpieces.
