Ikr! So glad that he put vultures 1 on this list, I would argue that it is the best Kanye album of all time!!! Hell, it may even be the best rap album of all time👹
Albums listing from video: 1. Brat - Charli XCX 2. Lives Outgrown - Beth Gibbons 3. You won't Go Before You're Supposed To - Knocked Loose 4. Only God Was Above Us - Vampire Weekend 5. Cowboy Carter - Beyonce 6. Loss of Life - MGMT 7. SCRAPYARD - Quadeca 8. Hotel La Rut - Joanna Wang 9. Prelude to Ecstasy - The last Dinner party 10. She reaches out to she reaches out to she - Chelsea Wolfe
He only gave it a 7 tho. I thought some songs were absolutely brilliant but as an experience it didn’t totally click due to the bloated track list with a couple of weaker songs.
I don't know. I feel like lemon twigs have a habit of writing awe inspiring moments within holistically questionable work. The songs can tend to have moments that, at least to me, seem excessively unintuitive, and not in a fashion that causes double take or subvert expectations but rather that makes you ask "why did you do that? That chord progression seemed randomized and/or was not as engaging as you had a chance at making This year's album felt a bit better about their own take on traditional pop writing. Had a strong feel of explorers club: good contemporary power pop and session band, Phil spector, Bacharach kinda thing going, but I don't know if it beats enough work across various sounds and genres to make this lists
@@taylorlawrence8252 very rap/rage centric but: Way Too Many Friends, Guess Who? and I Make It Look Effortless are exceptional, mad how he can jump into those styles and drop 9s and 10s
Grande Mahogany and Ugly (UK) were also great discoveries this year, and then I loved the new St Vincent as well (though you could say that every other year and be pretty safe)
Other great albums Melon didn't mention A Dream is All You Know - The Lemon Twigs #RICHAXXHATIAN - Mach-Hommy Tidal Memory Exo - Iglooghost What a Fucking Nightmare - The Chisel Hit Me Hard and Soft - Billie Eilish Fearless Movement - Kamasi Washington No Hands - Joey Valance & Brae Wall of Eyes - The Smile It's Sorted - Cheekface
I hate the fact that Scrapyard being a collection of B sides and leftovers makes people think less of it in relation to IDMTHY. As someone who didn’t listen to the songs prior to the album’s release, I literally could not tell that they were “leftovers” by listening to it, which is a testament to the quality and the flow of those songs
Most of y’all prolly haven’t heard of it, but nobigdyl’s The People We Became is my favorite Hip Hop record of the year. Billie Eilish’s record is my favorite Pop album so far.
sorry but Clancy doesn't even come close to any of these albums. TØP hardly broke out of their one trick pony formula both writing and production wise and the handful of songs that did sound like bootleg MCR tracks.
My top 10 (so far…) 1. Brat - Charli XCX 2. Planet Inc - Florian T M Zeisig 3. Orchards of a futile heaven - The Body & Dis Fig 4. You Won’t Get What You’re Supposed To - Knocked Loose 5. Dostrotime - Squarepusher 6. Perdition - Fänge 7. I Got Heaven - Mannequin Pussy 8. She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She - Chelsea Wolfe 9. Tidal Memory Exo - iglooghost 10. Only God Was Above Us - Vampire Weekend
@@StevoOvennah, not into mainstream stadium rap, I’ll listen to the new R.A.P. Ferreira & Fumitake Tamura project over any mainstream rappers albums this year but I will agree Vince’s album was not bad at all it’s just not in my top 10, maybe my top 50?
@@StevoOven”Y'all thinkin' my life is rap? That's ho ish I got a son to raise, but I can see you don't know nothin' 'bout that” lmfao but seriously saying i personally don’t enjoy mainstream rap and making a top 10 list without any of those albums isn’t a “take” it’s just showing my taste in music and it’s perfectly fine to listen to other genres of music it’s what makes us individual people and thinkers. A take would be saying “all mainstream hip hop is trash” which is not my opinion or take at all. There’s a difference for sure.
Hey Anthony! As someone who doesn’t often watch music-related content or follow it very closely, some labels on what the albums are called would be nice so I can listen to them
Btw you gave Civerous a score about as close to 10 as you can get and didn't mention it here? Probably has the closest score to Brat of any album you reviewed
Me personally, my top 10 is like this 1: Brat - Charli xcx 2: Why Lawd - NxWorries 3: Blue Lips - SchoolboyQ 4: Dark Times - Vince Staples 5: Hit Me Hard And Soft - Billie Eilish 6: Atavista - Childish Gambino 7: Born in the Wild - Tems 8: TIMELESS - Kaytranada 9: hella (˃̣̣̥╭╮˂̣̣̥) ✧ ♡ ‧º·˚ - 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE 10: WE STILL DONT TRUST YOU - Future, Metro Boomin
