Best and Worst Areas in Souls Games

DS2 is overall so bad that the best area is the main hub

​​@@RandomNorwegianGuy.I agree with the base games having shitty designed areas (my favorite is probably the walk up to drangleic castle because of the atmosphere and shrine of amana looks beautiful but it's controller breaking gameplay wise), but have you not played the dlcs?? Shulva and the brume tower especially have better and more fun level designs like some of the areas in the other two games in my opinion. They also have the worst areas in any game ever at the same time though with iron passage (just wtf) and frigid outskirts, i really don't know what they were thinking

Thank God it's small. Quite a unique place, it creates an interesting view from above, you can also explore a little what remains and has not collapsed. In my opinion, the dungeons under the Smoldering Lake are much worse, and Farron Keep is greatly underrated.

​@@LuM4rex smoldering lake area should have been the coolest, highest level area in the game, with hard bosses and good loot. We got crabs, ASSYLUM DEMON AGAIN, and a big crossbow. Wew.

"It's crazy how all of these games contain such incredible areas that can be missed entirely or even just little hidden paths that take you to a new encounter or cool items" my favorite example of that is when I randomly came across Jarburg in Elden Ring. Such a pleasant little surprise 🤗

Stormveil better

​@@negansmith5637Level design wise yeah, stormveil is perfect and there's so many secrets to find, they could have made so much more out of drangleic but the atmosphere is so unique and amazing, walking up to the weirdly surreal looking castle on the bridge with the mastodon knights and then the passage with the horse twinblade statues attacking before the boss is amazing too.

@@thex6992 No not really. If you enjoy it then thats great for you but i think that Drangleic Castle is just as bland and uninteresting as every other empty Ds2 area

@@negansmith5637 Yeah its still empty and the layout of the rooms is weird, I just like the vibe. and I do agree every base game area looks empty and unfinished almost, no details etc. the dlc areas look better at least. its weird that bloodborne came one year after ds2 and it looked infinite times better even though the fps are really bad

@@thex6992 Its weird with fromsoft. There was no real evolution regarding visual area design and detailing but rather an insane jump from Ds2 to Bloodborne. In Ds2 you barely have any detailed structures and in Bloodborne they suddenly introduced a multitude of breakable objects like furniture and such. Same with the attention to detail in the later games. Maybe that shows that Ds2 was really just a filler game to bridge over the time that it took them to make Bloodborne which was much more up to date at that time hence why Ds2 felt outdated even on launch. I understand that you still like the vibe of Drangleic Castle, the ominous architecture in the rainstorm is a really striking image, especially from the outside.

Wait.. Gun fort..??? I'm playing sekiro for the first time and I had the poison cave with the giant statues and the snake eye miniboss yesterday, it was probably the worst section I've beaten in any of their games yet, made me scream at my tv screen... Don't tell me there's more like that

I agree that Anor Londo is overrated. I mean like, did everybody wiped from memory the God-awful archers?

Glintstone dragon adula is the boss of that area

i love demons souls for what it is, but yeah i totally agree on it being the worst

You are someone of bad taste. ds3 has the best levels and atmosphere tied with bloodborne. Lothric castle, ringed city, irithyll, and so much more are all perfection. The only reason anyone would run past the areas is to fight the bosses just because the bosses are so peak

@@StrappingYoungLadam I think DS3 just has the least interesting areas generally of any Souls. Maybe just the linearity but it's never felt like the "Ooh whats this?" feeling in the game from first run to now. I think gameplay wise DS3 just has the most annoying basic enemies. Notably the thralls or the notorious dogs. I suspect a part of the distaste I have for basic enemies is probably just how poise works in DS3 makes a lot of basic enemies more annoying to fight than a puzzle to solve like in other games. Plus the areas just suck and aren't enjoyable to traverse imo and feel uninspired for the most part. The only one I give inspiration to is Irithyll Dungeon but then again it just feels like a better 3-1. I grit my teeth down an extra millimeter whenever I even think about Farron swamp. Cathedral is fine and for the most part original but it's just long and tedious more than enjoyable to me but also if you just go for deacons it's not too bad I guess. Also, I've never enjoyed the random like "mid point" (?) areas. Like why does Road of Sacrifices even need to exist or the Profaned Capital? This is probably me being nit picky I guess but they feel like what is even the point. Don't even get me started on the DLC areas just ugh. Ringed City itself is so boring and empty and feels thrown together like how Mountaintop of the Giants is thrown together to be "difficult." Dreg Heap is good, I'll give that.

grey… tombstone… more grey… i love ds3, i have over 1k hours in the game and have been playing it since i was 11 on release, so i really dont know how i never got color blindness from the constant monotone color pallet

@yeahyeahwowman8099 I love Bloodborne, but it has significant flaws. The world is less interconnected, worst "magic system," consumable healing, less character customization, less build variety, lots of gimmick bosses, terrible framerate and muddy textures, etc. Again, it's a great game, but nowhere near the top of the list.

Both Elden Ring and Bloodborne are the two best and worst games, chalice dungeons and elden ring dungeons are some of the laziest dogshit game design that's ever been released by any game.
